Abstract

This study was inspired by the researcher's observation that pupils struggle to learn and remember Japanese terminology. The goal of this research was to examine the impact of crossword media on high school students' ability to learn Japanese vocabulary. This study employed a quantitative approach and a Pre Experimental Design for its investigation. The study employed a pre- and post-test design with a single group. Twenty-five students from IPS 1 in Grade 12 made up the study's sample. This research employed a systematic, unbiased sampling strategy. The information in this study comes from before and after examinations. The method of information gathering is a multiple-choice test with as many as 30 questions. The results of the Paired Samples T-Test show that the crossword game medium is significantly effective on the Japanese vocabulary mastery of students in class XII at IPS 1 SMAN 13 Padang, with a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05. Additionally, pupils improved their Japanese vocabulary knowledge after utilising crossword puzzles as a learning tool. The average score before the test was 70.76, thus this boost from that to 83.32 is clear.

Abstract

Online learning has been implemented widely at school, including in language learning. But, there are still many language teachers who encounter difficulties in doing online learning evaluations. To improve the language teachers' ability to do the learning evaluation with online media, we conducted training for the teachers about online learning evaluation media. Training participants were a group of Senior High School and Vocational high school teachers in Padang. The training was carried out with the stages of introducing the types of online learning evaluation media, tutorials on how to use some applications for online learning evaluation, and teachers simulating the online learning evaluation they had designed. The training result showed the improvement in teachers' ability to do learning evaluations with online media. The post-test results were two times higher than the pre-test results. Both tests' results showed a significant difference between before and after training.

Abstract

SDN 01 Bandar Buat is located in Lubuk Kilangan District, Padang, with an average number of students of 28 per class. At SDN 01 Bandar Buat, students can learn foreign languages according to their learning abilities. Studying a foreign language is very necessary to increase students' knowledge. Apart from English which has been studied since elementary school, other foreign languages will also be very beneficial if introduced from an early age, one of which is Japanese. In everyday life, we can find children's shows that use Japanese, such as the anime of Doraemon, Ultraman, and many others. Besides that, many Japanese songs are also sung by children. This indicates that Japanese is very familiar among children. SDN 01 Bandar Buat provides the opportunity to teach Japanese language and culture from an early age so that it can provide benefits and provide refresher knowledge in the midst of the lessons they have learned so far. Learning Japanese vocabulary for children aged 6-12 years is not easy, because it is something they have never done before. Teachers had to be creative and use interesting teaching strategies. Therefore, the team created an animated video using the Powtoon application to teach basic Japanese vocabulary. That video is in Indonesian and introduces Japanese vocabulary such as animals and plants.
