Abstract

The problem of low reading literacy in the Ruá Catholic Primary School (SDK) was the motivation for this study. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of teachers at SDK Ruá in the development of students' reading literacy. This type of research is qualitative, using data collection techniques through interviews, observation and documentation. The techniques of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and inference (verification) developed by Miles and Huberman were used for data analysis. On the basis of the results of the study, the teachers at SDK Ruá have fulfilled their role and have played an important role in overcoming the main problem related to the low level of reading literacy. The efforts made are to get the pupils used to reading independently, to create a reading corner, to maximise learning by directing the formation of reading literacy, to provide non-text books that the pupils like, and to maximise the use of learning media. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the teachers at SDK Ruá have performed their role optimally. This can be seen from the habits of the students and the physical evidence seen in the school regarding the procurement of books that the students like and the creation of a reading corner. Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Writing a narrative text that includes the main components of the text is not easy. This means that the students' ability in this regard is not entirely good. The evidence is that there are still components that are often ignored and do not appear in the text. The components in question are resolution and coda.  This study aims to assess students' ability to write correct and complete narrative texts. The type of research used is quantitative descriptive research. The sample of this research was 60 students of PGSD Unika Santu Paulus Ruteng. The technique used in collecting data is the test technique. Students were asked to write a narrative text with any theme and pay attention to the right narrative text structure such as orientation, complication, resolution, and coda. The text was analysed using observation technique. Based on the findings, the components of orientation, complication, and resolution in the narrative text get a good range. This is evidenced in the acquisition of student scores which are in the good category and some of them are in the excellent category. The only component of narrative text that needs to be improved is the coda. There are 40 out of 60 students whose scores are in the fair range. Therefore, the coda component needs to be trained. Therefore, the coda component needs to be trained.

Abstract

The independent curriculum builds teachers' enthusiasm for implementing learning that embraces the principle of diversity. The implementation is adapted to the local conditions. However, the fact is that the implementation of the independent curriculum is not as expected by the government. The obstacles teachers face are not few. This is due to the different situations in the field, including three primary schools in Kabupaten Manggarai, NTT. The teachers found obstacles, especially in the implementation of learning with the independent curriculum. This study aims to describe in detail the obstacles faced by primary school teachers in learning with the independent curriculum. This research uses qualitative approach and descriptive method. Three schools were selected because they have been implementing the Independent Curriculum for about two years. In addition, there are 12 respondents who are also implementing learning with the independent curriculum. The data collection technique used was in-depth interviews with the researcher as the main instrument. The data was analyzed using the steps of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed some of the main obstacles that elementary school teachers experienced in implementing learning with an independent learning curriculum, such as the preparation of learning tools, the implementation of assessments, the lack of student independence in learning, the limited time for teachers to learn, the ability of teachers to adapt teaching materials, and the limited training of teachers regarding the implementation of the independent learning curriculum.
