Abstract

ABSTRACT   Sawitri, Dian Ni Luh Putu (2012), The Effect of ICT assisted Project Based Learning (PBL) and Learners Self Direction on Writing Competency of Sophomore Students of The International Bali Hotel School Thesis, English Education, Postgraduate Program, Ganesha University of Education. This thesis has been approved and corrected by supervisor I: Dra. Luh Putu Artini, M.A.,Ph.D. and Supervisor II: Dr. Ni Made Ratminingsih, M.A. Keywords: ICT based PBL, self-directed learning, writing competency. The aim of this study was to prove whether the implementation of ICT based PBL and the students’ self-directed learning give a significant effect to the students’ writing competency. The study was a quasi-experimental study by applying 2 x 2 factorial design. The population was 5 classes (128 students) of sophomore students of the International Bali Hotel School in academic year 2011/2012, in which 4 classes were taken as samples which were then assigned into two different groups; experimental group and control group, by Random Sampling to a class(intact group). The research data were collected through questionnaire and test and that the result was then analysed using Statistical Two-Way Anova and Tukey test. The results show that, first, there was a significant effect of ICT based PBL strategy on students writing competency, in which the students who were taught using ICT based PBL have higher writing competency than those who were taught by using conventional teaching strategy. Secondly, there was a significant interaction between self-directed learning and ICT based PBL. Third, there was a significant difference on students’ writing competency taught using ICT based PBL strategy with high level of self-directed learning, where students with high level of self-directed learning performed better when they were taught using ICT based PBL strategy rather than conventional teaching strategy. Fourth, there was a significant difference between the writing competency of the students with low level of self-directed learning when they were taught by using ICT based PBL compared to those students taught using conventional teaching, in which it was found that conventional teaching was more effective to students with low level of self-directed learning. Sampel dalam penelitian ini melibatkan empat kelas Management Perhotelan yang diambil dari populasi 5 kelas siswa semester dua divisi Management Perhotelan. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui tes dan kuisioner. Berikutnya data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis two-way ANOVA dan tes Tukey yang berhasil merumuskan beberapa hasil sebagai berikut. Pertama, terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara kemampuan menulis siswa yang diajar menggunakan teknik pembelajaran berbasis proyek dengan bantuan ICT dibandingkan dengan hasil kemampuan menulis siswa yang diajar menggunakan teknik konvensional. Kedua, terdapat perbedaan kemampuan menulis siswa yang memiliki kemandirian belajar yang tinggi yang diajar melalui teknik pembelajaran berbasis proyek dengan bantuan ICT dibandingkan dengan teknik konvensional. Ketiga, terdapat perbedaan signifikan dalam kemampuan menulis siswa yang memiliki kemandirian belajar yang rendah ketika diajar dengan teknik pembelajaran berbasis proyek dengan bantuan ICT dan teknik konvensional. Siswa dengan kemandirian belajar rendah memiliki hasil menulis lebih baik ketika diberikan memalui teknik konvensional. Keempat, terdapat interaksi antara kemandirian belajar dengan teknik pembelajaran berbasis proyek dengan bantuan ICT.

Abstract

Abstract   This classroom action reseach was done in the area of speaking.  It was found that the eleventh grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar got difficulty  in communicating and delivering ideas. The objective of this study was to figure out whether or not speaking  skill of the eleventh   grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 could be improved  through  British  Parliamentary  Style Debate Technique.  The research was undertaken based on the result of the interview with the teacher who taught the studentt. Pre-test was then carried out, and it was found that the subjects’ speaking skill was low. In order to settle down the problem, British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique was implemented as the technique to improve the subjects’ speaking skill. The study was conducted in two cycles. Furthermore, the result of post- test in each cycle showed that there were significant improvements on the subjects’ speaking skill after British  Parliamentary  Style  Debate technique  was applied. After the treatment of pre-test, the reflection or post-test was administered.   The mean figure of the reflection or post-test scores obtained by the subjects under study in cycle I was 70.52. and cycle  II  was  78.34. In addition, based on the data of the questionnaire, the subjects’ responses towards the application of the technique was positive.  Therefore, it could be concluded that speaking skill of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 could be improved through British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique.   Keywords: Improving, Speaking, British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique

Abstract

This study used classroom action research to investigate if the L-R-D method may improve reading comprehension in the VIII class at SMPN 4 Kuta Utara. There were two sessions per cycle of this two-cycle classroom action research methodology. Pre- and post-tests, as well as a questionnaire, were employed by the researcher as data collection tools. The pre-test results from the first reflection were used as the foundation for this investigation. The results demonstrated the students' persistent struggles with reading comprehension and their inability to discriminate between references, textual meaning, specific information, and general information. After taking the pre-test (58.9), cycle one post-test (72.8), and cycle two post-test (81.4), the respondents' mean scores showed a substantial improvement. Additionally, the results of this study indicated favourable attitudes about the application of the L-R-D approach. The results of the questionnaire indicated that 46.08% agreed, 2.77% agreed, 0.28% disagreed, and 0% strongly disagreed, with 50.85% highly agreeing. The L-R-D technique may improve the reading comprehension of eighth-grade students at SMPN 4 Kuta Utara, according to the study's findings.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a crucial skill that enables individuals to acquire new information. This study at SMPN 4 Denpasar aimed to enhance the reading comprehension of class VIII.10 students. Using the Classroom Action Research method over two cycles, the initial pre-test mean score was 63.00, with only 35% students who could passed. Cycle I, employed the KWL Plus strategy, showed a post-test I mean score of 85.25, and 82.5% of the students who could passed. In Cycle II, with the same strategy, post-test II mean score was 97.25, and 97.5% of the students who could passed. A concluding questionnaire showed 35.22% strongly agreed, 52.72% agreed, and 12.04% were undecided. The study highlights the effective enhancement of reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 4 Denpasar in the class VIII.10, affirming the success of the KWL Plus strategy in the academic year 2023/2024.

Abstract

The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between self-efficacy and speaking skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 4 Denpasar in the academic year 2023/2024. The samples of the research consisted of 54 students which were chosen by means of random sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured questionnaire and picture description. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between self-efficacy and speaking skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 4 Denpasar in the academic year 2023/2024.

Abstract

This classroom action research tries to improve the students’ speaking skills through the use of multimodal digital storytelling. Within several cycles, the researchers recorded students’ progress, particularly in retelling stories with the help of digital media. The subjects of this study were the ninth-grade students of SMPN 9 Denpasar. The media used differ in each cycle, making sure that students were exposed to different modality of retelling stories. After each cycle, the students were given a post-test to demonstrate their speaking skills in the form of a performance assessment. The main data was the students’ speaking scores from pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test. Another supporting data was also gathered through questionnaires to see students’ responses about the implementation of multimodal storytelling. The data was presented quantitatively with qualitative description and explanation. The result showed that there was an improvement in terms of students’ speaking scores after the implementation of multimodal storytelling. The students were also showing positive responses toward the variety of media they were being introduced to.

Abstract

Investigating the readiness and intention of the lecturers for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in English language learning is the goal of this study. The questionnaire, online interview, and focus group discussion were all used in the this mixed-methods designed research to collect data. Finding out the lecturers’ readiness  and their intentions on the use of AI applications into their English classrooms are the main points of emphasis. There were 29 English Department lecturers were involved, 11 lecturers from Indonesia (5 males and 6 females) and 18 lecturers from India (6 males and 12 females). It was identified that the lecturers have high readiness in infusing AI into the English language learning classroom. Their readiness was supported by the identified efforts that the lecturers had performed.  Then, it was also figured out that the lecturers have positive intention to infuse AI into their English class.

Abstract

Penggunaan teknologi dalam pengajaran merupakan suatu hal yang tidak dapat dipisahkan. Kemampuan guru dalam menggunakan media variative dalam mengajar menjadi kunci penentu jalannya proses pembelajaran. Selain membantu proses belajar, teknologi juga berperan dalam proses penilaian. Dalam pengabdian Masyarakat ini, guru diberikan pengetahuan dan pelatihan dalam membuat dan menggunakan penilaian berbasis daring. Penerapan penilaian berbasis daring ini diharapkan mampu memberikan alternatif pilihan bagi guru terutama dalam memberikan penilaian. Adapun manfaat dari pelatihan penilaian berbasis daring ini adalah: (1) meningkatkan pertisipasi siswa, (2), memudahkan guru dalam memberikan koreksi dan penilaian, serta (3) Meningkatkan pemahaman dan retensi siswa.
