Abstract

ABSTRACT   Reading is a complex process involving skill and intelligence in which readers make sense of the text by combining their prior knowledge, purpose of reading and the information given in the text. This study addresses some important point regarding MURDER technique in fulfilling the need of University student in reading comprehensively. The researcher then implemented MURDER (Mood, Understand, Recall, Detect, Elaborate, and Review) technique on his attempt to solve the problem face by the fourth semester students of English Education Study program FKIP Unmas denpasar in academic year 2014/2015. The classroom action research was carried out in two-planned cycles that were proceeded by administration of pre-test. The result of the tests, pre-test and post-tests, showed that the students’ reading comprehension improved significantly. To get the supporting data, structured questionnaire, showed positive responses concerning the students’ responses toward the implementation of MURDER technique. These results were considered as the findings of this study. In conclusion, the findings of the present classroom action research have achieved the expected result, that was, improving the low level mastery of reading comprehension; furthermore, it can be, of course, accomplished because of the implementation of MURDER technique.   Keyword: MURDER, reading comprehension.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Speaking competency is one of the necessary language competencies to be mastered by the students. In fact, the teaching learning process on Speaking Course became one of the frightening courses, and it sometimes decreased the students’ self-confidence because the implementation of inappropriate teaching technique. In the present study, Balinese Folklores-based Reflective Storytelling as the teaching model was implemented to deal with the problem. The present classroom action research was intended to figure out how speaking competency can be improved through Balinese Folklores-based Reflective Storytelling and how the students respond the implementation of Balinese Folklores-based Reflective Storytelling. The third semester students of English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Mahasaraswati Denpasar University consisting of 71 students were chosen as the subjects of the study. The findings clearly showed that the speaking competency of the subjects can be improved through the implementation of Balinese Folklores-based Reflective Storytelling. In addition, the subjects also responded positively the implementation of Balinese Folklores-based Reflective Storytelling in teaching speaking. Abstract

Abstract   This classroom action reseach was done in the area of speaking.  It was found that the eleventh grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar got difficulty  in communicating and delivering ideas. The objective of this study was to figure out whether or not speaking  skill of the eleventh   grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 could be improved  through  British  Parliamentary  Style Debate Technique.  The research was undertaken based on the result of the interview with the teacher who taught the studentt. Pre-test was then carried out, and it was found that the subjects’ speaking skill was low. In order to settle down the problem, British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique was implemented as the technique to improve the subjects’ speaking skill. The study was conducted in two cycles. Furthermore, the result of post- test in each cycle showed that there were significant improvements on the subjects’ speaking skill after British  Parliamentary  Style  Debate technique  was applied. After the treatment of pre-test, the reflection or post-test was administered.   The mean figure of the reflection or post-test scores obtained by the subjects under study in cycle I was 70.52. and cycle  II  was  78.34. In addition, based on the data of the questionnaire, the subjects’ responses towards the application of the technique was positive.  Therefore, it could be concluded that speaking skill of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 could be improved through British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique.   Keywords: Improving, Speaking, British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique

Abstract

The researchers was interested in undertaking the study which dealt with assessing descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Sukawati through guided question and answer in academic year 2018/2019. It was aimed at figuring out the achievement of the eighth grade students’ descriptive paragraph writing ability at SMPN 2 Sukawati in academic year 2018/2019 which was assessed through guided question and answer. The study was designed in the form of ex-post facto research. There were 50 eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Sukawati in academic year 2018/2019 who were chosen by using random sampling technique with lottery system as the research samples. The data were collected by administering guided question and answer test as the research instrument. The obtained data had been analyzed by using norm reference measure of five standard values. The results of the data analysis showed that (1) 1 or 2% of 50 samples got excellent achievement of descriptive paragraph writing ability, (2) 18 or 36% of 50 samples got good achievement, (3) 15 or 30% of samples got sufficient achievement, (4) 9 or 18% of samples got insufficient achievement, (5) 7 or 14% got poor achievement. It could be concluded that there were 68% of the samples were successful and there were 32% of the samples were unsuccessful in writing descriptive paragraph which was assessed by guided question and answer.

Abstract

This study was designed as a classroom action research (CAR). This study was conducted in some cycles consisted of two sessions in each cycle: Planning, Action, Observation, and Reflection. This study is conducted to the students of Germania Class Airport Handling Management Bali Aviation Training Center Denpasar (BATC) which consisted of 22 students (6 male and 16 female) who had low ability in speaking English. It was proven by the average score of pre-test which was 66,59. To solve the problem, the researcher used Multiple Inside-Outside Circle. The data collected from this research were obtained from pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed by analysis statistial desriptive. The first finding of this study was there was a significant improvement on students’ speaking skill after the use of Multiple Inside-Outside Circle which can be seen from the average score of pre-test, cycle I and cycle II. The second finding showed that the subjects showed positive respond to the implementation of the Multiple Inside-Outside Circle.

Abstract

This study was intended to figure out the effectiveness of Numbered Heads Together in improving speaking skill of the seventh grade students of SMP PGRI 4 Denpasar. This study was conducted in class VII B which consisted of 16 students: 12 males and 4 females. This study was conducted by the fact that the subjects still faced problem in speaking skill especially in vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. Based on the result of the pre-test which was carried out in the pre-cycle, among 16 subjects who did the pre-test, there was none of the subjects passed the minimum score. The present study was then carried out by implementing Numbered Heads Together in successive two cycles where each cycle consisted of two sessions. The results of post-tests score for cycle I was 2.67 while in cycle II was 3.18. The results of post-test in each cycle showed that there was a significant progressing achievement of the subjects’ speaking skill. In addition, the data analysis of questionnaire score showed the comparative percentages figures of 55.78% for option A, 42.40% for option B, 1.80% for option C and 0% of option D. The result of the questionnaire above clearly showed that the students’ learning behavior and motivation have been improved significantly when Numbered Heads Together was implemented in teaching speaking. In conclusion, the present classroom action study proved that Numbered Heads Together was effective to improve the seventh grade students’ of SMP PGRI 4 Denpasar ability in speaking skill; in addition, the subjects also responded positively to the implementation of Numbered Heads Together.

Abstract

Keterampilan berbicara merupakan salah satu keterampilan yang harus selalu dilatih agar mereka dapat berkomunikasi dengan baik.Di samping itu, karakter juga merupakan salah satu hal yang sangat penting karena orang yang sukses bukan hanya karena hard skill tetapi juga soft skill.Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh mahasiswa semester tiga Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yaitu keterampilan berbicara dan karakter.Penelitian dilaksanakan dalam beberapa siklus penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran kolaborasi think-pair-share dengan konsep tri kaya parisudha. Setelah beberapa siklus, hasil penelitian menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan dari pra siklus sampai siklus IV.Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran yang diterapkan telah berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara dan mengembangkan karakter disiplin, jujur, kooperatif, kreatif dan saling menghormati.
