Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime country with abundant marine products, but the processing of marine animal waste has not been a concern, the shell contains chitosan as a multifunctional biopolymer. Chitosan is a proven biomaterial that is non-toxic, biocompatible, and biodegradable compared to other polymers. The purpose of this study was to find out the content of Vaname shrimp chitosan and its inhibition against Streptococcus mutans bacteria. An experimental study was used, with a post test only control group design with the following treatments: control, 16 mg chitosan, 20 mg chitosan. Inhibitory power data (milli meter) was tested with One Way Anova. The research was carried out at the RAN Denpasar Laboratory, the Laboratory of the Faculty of Nutrition (Public Health, Airlangga University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Chemistry, Unair), UPT Analytical Laboratory Unud, and Microbiology Laboratory Unair. Results of this study indicated the content of carbohydrates, nitrogen, water, ash, protein, fat and the degree of deacetylation. Chitosan has an inhibitory effect on Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The quantity and quality of chitosan in Vaname shrimp, mets the requirements specified by Protan Biopolymer and was useful as an antimicrobial. Keywords: chitosan; vaname shrimp; characteristics; inhibition

Abstract

Indonesian Ministry of Health data (2013) showed 89% of children aged 12 years had dental caries, this is one proof that public awareness is still lacking in maintaining the health of their teeth and mouth. Residents who stated that they had problems with their teeth and mouth in the last 12 months in Tabanan Regency were 25.7%. This figure is above the Bali provincial figure of 24.0%. One of the preventive measures for dental caries is to seal (seal) pits and deep fissures on the surface of the tooth. Based on the preliminary interview with the Head of Kukuh Elementary School 1, 3 and 4 in Marga Sub-district, Tabanan Regency, it is known that there are no UKS or UKGS elementary schools. Based on the description above, a problem statement can be formulated: how to prevent dental caries for students in Kukuh District 1, 3 and 4 SDN in Marga Sub-district, Tabanan Regency in 2018? The service method is carried out with practice or direct action on the teeth of students of SDN 1,3, and 4 Kukuh, Marga District, Tabanan Regency. Based on the results and discussion, it can be suggested as follows: sealant action is carried out even earlier, to avoid carious teeth; if similar activities are carried out again, the community service team prepares tools and materials for dental fillings. Keywords: pit and fissure sealant, dental caries

The consumption patterns of sugary foods can increase the occurance dental caries risk was 8.826 times. The not gargling habits with  water after eating sugary foods can increase dental caries risks was 3.250 times than the habitual of gargle with water after that. While variable of gender that no association with the incidence caries on permanent dentition at twelve years children. The tooth brushing behavior, consumption patterns of sugary foods, and gargling habits with water had related to incidence of dental caries. Abstract

School-aged children are one of the most vulnerable groups of caries, because they generally have lack of knowledge and behavior about oral health, such as the habit of consuming cariogenic foods that trigger the dental caries. The purpose of this research is to know the caries description and the habit of consuming cariogenic food in students of SDN 5 Abiansemal in 2018. The technique used in this research is descriptive technique with the number of respondents 44 students. The result of the research on 44 students of SDN 5 Abiansemal shows the average of caries permanent teeth in students of SDN 5 Abiansemal is 1,61. The permanent caries mode of teeth is the tooth 46 ( teeth first permanent mandibular molar of the right lower). The frequency of students who have the habit of consuming most cariogenic foods is moderate category (2 times a day) that is 52, 3%. The frequency of students with caries teeth based on the dietary habits of cariogenic foods isfrom 7 students who have the habit of eating cariogenic foods high ( 3 times a day) as many as 7 students(100%) had caries teeth with an average dental caries 3,42 means that one student experiences three to four caries teeth. These results suggest that students who consume high-categorical cariogenic foods tend to experience more dental caries.

Abstract

According to Kwan, et al., (2005) in Sriyono (2009) oral health is a fundamental part of general health and wellbeing. According Riyanti and Erika (2005) in Nuzurabachtiar (2013), dental hygiene and oral health is part of the body that can not be separated from one another, because oral health affects the health of the body. Riskesdas (2013) reported that the prevalence of dental caries in Bali is for 24.0 with the translation of caries prevalence for the age group of 12 years was 22.1% with Decay, Missing, Tooth Filling (DMF-T) 0.55, 35 age group -44 years of dental caries prevalence reached 26.9% with DMF-T 4.56. The problem of this research is "Effective counseling to increase knowledge of fifth grade students of SDN 16 Kesiman Denpasar East 2015". The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of counseling for increasing knowledge of fifth grade students of SDN 16 Kesiman Denpasar Timur in 2015. This study is the research experiment with Paired T test. The population in this study were all students of class V SDN 16 Kesiman Denpasar are 71 East. This study does not use samples but using total population. Based on the results of research conducted on 71 students of class V SD N 16 Kesiman Denpasar Timur obtained results regarding the level of knowledge about dental and oral health care before getting dental health education with very good criteria as many as 18 people (25.35%), the level of knowledge of students with good criterion as many as 37 people (52.11%), the level of knowledge of students with criteria quite as many as 13 people (18.30%), while the level of knowledge of students with less criteria of three people (4.22%) and no student have failed criteria, and the average level of knowledge of students of class V SD N 16 Kesiman about maintaining healthy teeth and mouth before getting dental health education amounted to 72.32, which means knowledge of fifth grade students were on both criteria. The frequency of the level of knowledge of students of class V SD N 16 Kesiman obtained results regarding the level of knowledge about dental and oral health maintenance after getting dental health education with very good criteria as much as 67 people (94.36%), while the level of knowledge of students with good criterion as many as four people (5.63%), and no students have sufficient criteria, less and failed and the average level of knowledge of students of class V SDN 16 Kesiman about maintaining healthy teeth and mouth before getting dental health education amounted to 89.86, which means the knowledge of students V class currently on the criteria very well. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that the correlation test Paired T test showed that the correlation coefficient (R) =, 599 and sig = 0,000. This shows that there is a significant association between knowledge and before and after being given the oral and dental health education in the fifth grade students of SDN 16 Kesiman. Expected for dental health workers in order to improve the knowledge of students of class V SD N 16 Kesiman, by providing information or counseling on dental and oral health maintenance.
