Abstract

This research aims to improve the learning outcomes of class VII-1 students at SMP Negeri 5 Palangka Raya on Earth and Solar System material by using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The research subjects consisted of 28 students, consisting of 14 male students and 14 female students, who were part of class VII-1 of SMP Negeri 5 Palangka Raya. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research which is carried out in two cycles, where each cycle consists of two meetings. Each cycle includes planning, implementation, observation and reflection stages. The research results showed that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model in cycles I and II succeeded in improving student learning outcomes. The average value of learning outcomes for class VII-1 students increased in each cycle, namely in cycle I (77.30) and cycle II (80.76). Apart from that, the level of learning completion of students also increased, from 88.46% in cycle I to 92.30% in cycle II. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model can improve the learning outcomes of class VII-1 students on Earth and Solar System material at SMP Negeri 5 Palangka Raya for the 2023/2024 academic year.

Abstract

Differentiated Instruction (DI) has long been implemented to address the diverse learning needs of students. However, exploring its impact on learning outcomes within the framework of modern education has become increasingly important in understanding its effectiveness in the context of 21st-century learning. This meta-analysis aims to investigate the effect of differentiated instruction on students’ learning outcomes. The research method consisted of the stages of identification, screening, and inclusion. The research sample comprised 14 primary studies, producing a total of 41 effect sizes. The analysis revealed a significant effect (1.02; p < 0.05) of DI implementation on students’ learning outcomes. No significant differences in effect size were found based on measured ability, subject, country, sample size, grade level, or Scopus indexing. In terms of contribution, the country variable accounted for a substantial portion of the “weak” and “small” effect size categories. Consequently, the implementation of DI in Asia has been shown to have a significant impact on improving learning outcomes. Furthermore, differentiated instruction exerts a similar influence across all educational levels, suggesting that it should be optimally applied in both primary and secondary schools. Nevertheless, evaluations of psychomotor learning outcomes within the context of differentiated instruction remain limited. This indicates the need for greater attention to the psychomotor domain in future studies, to ensure that the focus extends beyond cognitive and affective abilities.

Abstract

The lack of students’ learning activities and outcomes in class VI-B at SDN 4 Panarung is based on the teacher-dominated learning and lecture method. To overcome the problem, the classroom action research through the Think-Pair-Share model was applied to the students. This paper reports the improvement of the student’s learning activities and outcomes on the theme of "Menjelajah Angkasa Luar” (Exploring Outer Space) and the subtheme of "Keteraturan Yang Menakjubkan” (Amazing Order) by applying a cooperative learning model, TPS. There are three classroom action research cycles applied to 16 sixth-grade students in which each cycle contains planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data analysis technique of the research used was descriptive, which compares the test value of each cycle with the success indicators. The research results indicate that (1) the average score of student activity in cycle I was 69, in cycle II it was 76.53, and in cycle III it was 90.53 and (2) the average score of student learning outcomes in cycle I was 65.63, in cycle II it was 74.67, and cycle III it was 82.14. It can be inferred that the implementation of the Think-Pair-Share model can improve student learning activities and outcomes in the theme of "Menjelajah Angkasa Luar” (Exploring Outer Space) and the subtheme of "Keteraturan Yang Menakjubkan” (Amazing Order).
