Abstract

This research is a qualitative research with the aim of describing mathematical communication skills in terms of the level of mathematical ability of students in Senior High School to an understanding of trigonometric equations. There were 3 research subjects namely one student that has high-ability (KMT), one student that has medium-ability (KMS), and one student that has low-ability (KMR). The instruments used in data collection are written questions and interviews. This research shows that student with high mathematical abilities is able to write in detail the flow of problem solving, explain the solution correctly and systematically and be able to draw conclusions appropriately. In addition, students are also able to provide logical reasons for the steps to resolve the problem. Show that can be said that students are able to communicate the results of their work in detail. Student with moderate mathematical abilities still has errors and errors in solving problems, the reasons used in the settlement are sometimes still not correct and the writing of conclusions is still not in accordance with the command questions. So that it can be said that student is still unable to communicate the results of their work in detail. Student with low mathematical abilities tends to write down problem solving briefly, has not been able to draw conclusions from the solutions made and also has not been able to provide an explanation of the solutions made. This shows that student has not been able to communicate the results of their work.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the misconception of class VIII students to solving questions in algebra material. To identify the occurrence of misconceptions in this study, using CRI (Certaninty of Respon Index) was a measure the level of confidence / certainty of respondent in answering each question (problem) given. The instrument data collection technique used was a diagnostic test with CRI criteria and interview. The research result concluded that several types of misconception indetified were (1) Student experienced concept misconception related to definition of variableand coefficient, (2) Student experienced count misconception related to the operation of like terms, (3) Student experienced sign misconception related to constant and (4) Student experienced translation misconception related to coefficient.

Abstract

The type of research is a qualitative research using descriptive approach. This subject research is 3 students who come from one of private schools in Makassar with highest score of mathematical and had ever followed mathematics olympiad. To know learning activities of student with high achievement SMP Islam Athirah Makassar conducted several techniques of data collection is observation, interview, and field notes. The data analysis techniques used are data exposure, reduction, presentation, conclusions and verification. Based on the result of research and discussion obtained learning activities of students with high achievement is pay attention and listen explanation well, writing / recording material written by her teacher, active on learning process, tutoring in class, always expressed opinion, became tutor in class, immediately doing the tasks given by her teacher, always doing the exercises of the Olympics, always taking the time to study mathematics in school and outside school, studying mathematics in various references, following the tutorial of studying olympiad at school, follow the guidance of study or courses outside school, follow the quarantine at school before the Olympic race.

Abstract

This study aims to show the effect of the use of virtual Learning Management System (LMS), namely schoology, on the mathematical disposition of students in learning mathematics. This research is classified as quasi experiment, which involves two classes given different treatments, the first class is treated using a virtual learning management system using schoology with a Blended Learning learning model and called an experimental class, while the second class is taught using a model direct teaching and is called the control class. The population in this study were all students majoring in class XI in one of the state high schools in Makassar. Sampling in this study using purposive sampling technique. For data collection, the instruments used were a mathematical disposition questionnaire (pre-test and posttest) and an observation sheet of the implementation of learning. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistical techniques and inferential statistics. The results of the study prove that the virtual learning management systems based schoology with blended learning models towards mathematical dispositions is better than direct teaching models.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ errors in solving questions of quadratic equation. This research type is descriptive research using qualitative approach. The subject of this research is 3 students of grade XI SMK Negeri in Makassar who were selected based on the number of errors experienced in solving questions of quadratic equation. Data collection techniques used in this study is diagnostic test and interview methods then through three stages of data analysis namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results obtained that the types of errors experienced by students in solving quadratic equation included conceptual error, principle error, and calculation error. This was because the low of students’ prerequisite knowledge about number operations, students didn’t understand about finding the roots of quadratic equation by completing the perfect square, students didn’t understand the abc formula to finding the roots of quadratic equation, and students inaccurate using arithmetic operations.
