Abstract

The focus of this research is "how is the ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Unismuh Makassar to connect mathematics on the material of quadrilaterals and triangles." The approach used is a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects were seventh grade students of SMP Unismuh Makassar which consisted of 1 student who had high mathematical connection ability, 1 student who had moderate mathematical connection ability and 1 student who had low mathematical connection ability. The instrument used is a test of the ability of mathematical connections in the material of quadrilaterals and triangles. The results obtained from this study are students who have high mathematical connection skills have no difficulty in solving mathematical problems with quadrilateral and triangle material. Students who have moderate mathematical connection abilities tend to have difficulty in indicators of applying and connecting concepts between mathematical material. And students who have low mathematical connection abilities have not met the indicators of applying mathematical concepts in solving mathematical problems related to everyday life.

Abstract

This type of research was ex-post facto research. The population in this study were all students of class XI of SMK Negeri 2 Makassar while the sample in this study were XI TKJ 1 and XI TKJ 2, totaling 65 students. The sampling technique used cluster random sampling. Data analysis techniques using questionnaires and tests. Data analysis techniques used descriptive statiscal analysis and inferential statistic analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that (1) Partially, the academic potential variable significantly influences the learning outcomes of students of class XI SMK Negeri 2 Makassar of 17.6%. (2) Partially self-efficacy variables significantly influence the mathematics learning outcomes of class XI students of SMK Negeri 2 Makassar by 43.4%. (3) Partially the learning independence variable has a significant effect on the learning outcomes of Grade XI students of SMK Negeri 2 Makassar by 78.8%. (4) Simultaneously the variables of academic potential, self-efficacy and learning independence significantly influence the learning outcomes of students of class XI in SMK Negeri 2 Makassar with a coefficient of determination R2 = 0.817 which means that the academic potential, self-efficacy and learning independence gave an effect of 81.7% on the mathematics learning outcomes of students of class XI of SMK Negeri 2 Makassar and the remaining 18.3% is influenced by other factors

Abstract

This study aims to explore the logical and critical thinking process of junior high school students in solving ill-structured problems based on mathematics ability. The research subject consisted of one student with high mathematics ability. The supporting instruments for data collection were: 1) Test of Mathematical Ability (TKM) consisting of 10 items in the form of descriptions to select subjects with high mathematical ability, 2) Ill-structured Problem Task (TMI), 3) Interviewing the subject based on the task (TMI). The data analysed in this study are interview transcript data, document data and field notes. This study used three stages in data analysis, namely data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing and verification. To validate the findings, the author applied method triangulation until consistent data was obtained, i.e. the data was structured and the content was relatively the same. Furthermore, consistent data in this study is categorised as research data. The results showed that the logical and critical thinking process of high mathematics ability students in solving ill-structured problems consisted of: (1) problem representation; (2) Generating Solution; (3) Justification; and (4) Monitoring and Evaluation. Based on the results of research related to the exploration of mathematical aesthetics through logical and critical thinking, it is recommended as material for further research development in terms of other aspects
