Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Diabetes mellitus is a condition where the body's glucose metabolism is disrupted. Hormonal issues lead to a variety of metabolic illnesses, which in turn produce abnormal insulin levels and other chronic complications. One of the triggers for diabetes mellitus is body mass index, blood glucose. DM sufferers can affect kidney function which results in the accumulation of blood creatinine and urea levels which can cause kidney failure. Glomerular filtration rate as the best index to assess kidney function parameters. Method: quantitative approach combined with a cross-sectional investigation. Purposive sampling was used to choose a sample of 82 individuals. The Spearman rank test was used to statistically process the data. Results: the average glomerular filtration rate value was 42.24 ml/min/1.73 m2 (SD±23,478). Conclusion: A weak correlation (r) of -0.386 and a p value <0.05, or 0.000, indicate a link between body mass index and glomerular filtration rate. Because of the negative association, the glomerular filtration rate value decreases as the body mass index value increases. The association between random blood glucose and glomerular filtration rate in individuals with diabetes mellitus, on the other hand, is 0.000 with a moderate correlation value (r) of -0.490 and a p value <0.05. Because of the negative association, the filtration rate value decreases as blood glucose levels rise. Keywords: body mass index, blood glucose, glomerular filtration rate

Abstract

Resilience is a significant factor closely associated with the quality of life and well-being of patients undergoing haemodialysis. Resilience serves as a protective factor that can enhance patients' adaptive capabilities and their skills in implementing positive coping strategies. Research on the relationship between resilience and quality of life in haemodialysis patients is still limited and has not been extensively studied. This study aims to explore the interconnection between resilience and quality of life in haemodialysis patients. A search for article data sources was conducted by applying inclusion and exclusion criteria in accordance with the PRISMA format through various databases such as Emerald, PubMED, and ProQuest, as well as e-resources from the National Library. Additionally, searches were performed on article sites such as ResearchGate, Science Direct, and Google Scholar for the period 2019-2024. The keywords utilised included: “Resilience” or “Resiliency” or “Resilient” and “quality of life” and “Haemodialysis”. Data were extracted by documenting the author's name, year, country, objective, respondents, design, findings, and implications. The study design included literature reviews in the form of abstracts or full texts from research journals. The quality of the research was evaluated using the PRISMA literature search diagram. From 13 reviewed journals, the analysis indicated that 9 articles suggested a relationship between resilience and the quality of life of haemodialysis patients, whereas 1 article reported no relationship, and 3 other articles highlighted additional factors related to resilience in haemodialysis patients. Enhancing resilience should be a focus in the care of haemodialysis patients to support the achievement of better quality of life. Indicators related to resilience are factors that influence the quality of life of haemodialysis patients. The role of resilience on an individual level requires further investigation within the context of quality of life variables in haemodialysis patients.  Keywords: Factors related, hemodialysis, quality of life, resilience

Abstract

Hemodialysis is a medical procedure used to correct blood biochemical abnormalities caused by impaired kidney function, with the aid of a hemodialysis machine. One of the most commonly used accesses in this procedure is the Arteriovenous Fistula (AVF), which is an anastomosis between the artery and vein in the arm or other parts of the body to facilitate the cannulation process. However, during the AVF cannulation procedure, patients often experience pain, which can cause discomfort and anxiety. Cold compresses are one of the non-pharmacological techniques that can be used to alleviate this pain. This study aims to examine the effect of cold compresses on reducing pain during AVF cannulation in hemodialysis patients. This research uses a Quasi-Experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design model, involving 116 hemodialysis patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. Patients were divided into two groups: the intervention group, which received cold compresses, and the control group, which did not receive treatment. Pain intensity was measured before and after cannulation using a visual analog scale (VAS). The results of the study show that the administration of cold compresses significantly reduced pain intensity, with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). In addition, there was a significant difference in effectiveness between the intervention group and the control group, with the same p-value. In conclusion, cold compresses proved to be an effective, simple, safe, and easy-to-apply non-pharmacological intervention to reduce pain in hemodialysis patients during the AVF cannulation procedure. Therefore, the use of cold compresses can be recommended as a method to improve the comfort of hemodialysis patients.

Abstract

Patients undergoing chemotherapy often face side effects such as pain and anxiety, which may negatively impact their quality of life and adherence to treatment. While pharmacological management is commonly used, non-pharmacological interventions such as relaxation techniques are increasingly being considered to complement conventional therapy. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Benson relaxation technique on pain and anxiety levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed, and purposive sampling was used to recruit 70 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Pain intensity was measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and anxiety levels were assessed using the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS). Data were analyzed using the Marginal Homogeneity test. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in both pain (p = 0.000) and anxiety (p = 0.000) in the intervention group after the implementation of the Benson relaxation technique, while no significant changes were observed in the control group. These findings indicate that the Benson relaxation technique is effective in reducing pain and anxiety among patients receiving chemotherapy. The study highlights the importance of integrating simple, low-cost, and non-invasive interventions into oncology nursing care. Furthermore, the Benson relaxation technique can be recommended as a supportive therapy to improve patient comfort, psychological well-being, and treatment adherence in chemotherapy settings.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases with a high prevalence, both globally and nationally, including in Indonesia. Proper support from healthcare providers plays a crucial role in improving knowledge and dietary adherence among hypertensive patients. This study aims to examine the relationship between healthcare support and knowledge of hypertension as well as dietary patterns among hypertensive patients in the Internal Medicine Clinic at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. The study uses a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 140 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The results indicate that the majority of patients receive good healthcare support, possess adequate knowledge of hypertension, and follow a good dietary pattern. However, Chi-Square test results show no significant relationship between healthcare support and knowledge of hypertension (p = 0.319) or dietary patterns (p = 0.319). This suggests that other factors, such as education, experience, family support, personal motivation, and eating habits, also influence the knowledge and dietary patterns of patients. In conclusion, although healthcare support plays a role in improving knowledge and dietary adherence in hypertensive patients, other external factors contribute significantly to the outcomes.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal health problems experienced by various age groups and can significantly affect quality of life and reduce patient productivity. LBP is often associated with multiple risk factors, both biological, psychological, and social, thus requiring special attention in terms of management and prevention. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with pain levels among LBP patients at the Neurology Clinic of Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. This research employed an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 100 patients selected using a total sampling technique according to inclusion criteria. Data were collected through structured interviews and questionnaires covering respondents’ demographics, medical history, physical activity, body mass index (BMI), and pain level assessment. The results showed that the majority of patients were female (53%) and aged ≤50 years (74%). Most respondents had moderate physical activity levels (75%) and normal BMI. Bivariate analysis revealed a strong relationship between age, physical activity, and pain level, while gender showed a moderate relationship with pain intensity. Occupational factors were also found to influence patients’ pain perception. These findings indicate that age, gender, physical activity, BMI, and occupation are important variables associated with pain in LBP patients. Therefore, promotive, preventive, and rehabilitative interventions focusing on physical activity regulation, healthy lifestyle education, and early detection of risk factors are recommended to improve the quality of life of patients with LBP.
