Abstract

The research aim was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in students' writing performance from descriptive passage among learners who practiced using the Process Writing Approach and those who were not. The design of that research used quasi-experimental. Participants were selected from X TKJ 3 being the experimental group and X TKJ 2 being the control group. Instruments of this study used a written test. There were five topics about the descriptive text in which students chose one of the issues. A paired sample t-test and independent-sample t-test were used to investigate the data. The outcome acquired from the paired sample t-test confirmed that students' writing achievement increased in the descriptive text after using the process writing approach. Independent-samples t-test analysis revealed that pvalue  (0.008) was lower than άvalu (0.05). Further analysis indicated a significant difference in students' writing performance from a descriptive passage within learners who practiced using the Process Writing Approach.

Abstract

A primary objective of the study was to explore students' difficulties in reading comprehension through online learning using Google Classroom and Zoom meetings faced by eighth-grade students at SMP Persatuan Pedamaran OKI regency. This study used a descriptive qualitative method; the participants were all eighth-grade students at SMP Persatuan Pedamaran. The data was gathered using a reading comprehension test and questionnaires. The test indicated that 77.5 percent of students struggled with the text's main idea. Then, 72.78 percent of students had a problem with the text's generic structure, and 75.83 percent had difficulty with references. Next, 73.75 percent of students had problems with the moral value of the text. Following that, 72.25 percent of students had difficulties understanding the text's details. Finally, 73.25 percent of students needed help finding the meaning of vocabulary in the text. Further, based on the questionnaires, it was found that the problems in learning reading comprehension online focused on several factors: students' background, social situation, school scene, and teacher's teaching strategy. In conclusion, many students in SMP Persatuan Pedamaran found it hard to read the texts comprehensively, especially in online learning.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in writing achievement between the students who were taught by using Edmodo application and that of those who were not. The method used in this study was quasi experimental method. The purposive sampling technique was used to select the samples. Therefore, the number of the students was 60 students which divided into two groups. To determine the experimental and control groups, flip of coin was used. Consequently, class IPS 1 was the experimental group while class IPS 2 was be control groups and each of them consisted of 30 students. In collecting the data, the written test essay was administered. To analyze the data, t-test was used. Based on the calculation of the independent sample test, it was found that t-obtained (14.511) was higher than t-table (2.001) and pvalue (0.000) was less than αvalue (0.05). It meant that the null hyphothesis (H0) was rejected and alternative hyphothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there was a significant difference between the students who were taught using Edmodo application and that of those who were not.

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher education has significantly transformed academic writing instruction, especially within English as an EFL learning environment. This study employed an Explanatory sequential mixed-methods design to investigate EFL students’ perceptions of AI-assisted academic writing and identify the perceived benefits and challenges of its implementation. The participants consisted of 28 EFL students from three Indonesian universities having experience using AI tools in academic writing courses. Quantitative data were collected via closed-ended questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured in-depth interviews to explain the quantitative findings. The quantitative results revealed that students demonstrated highly positive perceptions toward the use of AI in academic writing classes, with an overall mean score of 4.32, categorized as excellent. Students perceived AI as a supportive technology for generating ideas, organizing written text, improving grammatical accuracy, and completing writing tasks more efficiently. The qualitative findings revealed four dominant themes: AI as a writing assistant, improvement of writing efficiency and quality, AI as a means of independent learning, and ethical awareness and academic responsibility. Participants reported that AI supported independent learning, provided immediate feedback, and increased confidence and creativity in writing activities. Nevertheless, students also raised concerns about becoming too dependent on AI and the potential ethical problems related to academic honesty and maintaining originality in their work. The results claim that AI has strong potential to enhance EFL academic writing instruction when integrated pedagogically and used responsibly. It also provides practical implications for EFL lecturers in designing ethical and effective AI-assisted writing instruction in higher education contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the REAP (Read, Encode, Annotate, Ponder) strategy on students’ reading comprehension across different reading habits. The research was conducted with 10 second-semester students from the English Language Education program at FKIP UNISKI Kayuagung. This study applied a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design. A reading habits questionnaire and a reading comprehension test were employed to collect the data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests. Results indicated significant improvements in reading comprehension following the implementation of the REAP strategy, with high and low reading habits groups showing substantial gains. The REAP guided students to listen and read in the reading phase, and then encoding helped them to rephrase their ideas. After that, they could highlight the key points in annotation. Finally, they did group discussions. This process boosts comprehension for all students, regardless of reading habits. Additionally, student perceptions of the REAP strategy varied, with those possessing strong reading habits responding more positively. These findings suggest that the REAP strategy is an effective tool for enhancing reading comprehension across reading habits, fostering skill refinement in proficient readers and marked improvement in less proficient ones.
