Abstract

Fintech in Indonesia is an untapped market opportunity. As a country with the largest muslim population in the world, the prospect of Islamic fintech in Indonesia is very good. This study tries to answer the problems that occur, strategy, and stakeholders involved in developing Islamic fintech in Indonesia using the Interpretive Structural Model (ISM) approach. The core problem faced in developing the Islamic finance technology industry is the lack of policy instruments that maintain the work process of fintech and the availability of human resources for fintech. The strategy needed in the framework of developing Islamic fintech is the ability to manage and analyze data in the big data era and human resources in digital marketing. For ecosystem aspects or actors involved in developing Islamic fintech in Indonesia, important actors include government or regulators, educational institutions (universities), as well as existing industries (banks and other financial institutions).

Abstract

This study aims to predict the growth of Islamic banks assets in Indonesia for the year 2020. There are three schemes of forecasting count: pessimistic, moderate and optimistic. The results show that with the Multiplicative Decomposition method, the assets of Indonesian Islamic banks are estimated to reach Rp 523.72 trillion at the end of 2020. Slightly different from those results, with the trend analysis method, the assets of Indonesian Islamic banks are estimated at Rp 516.09 trillion. As for using the exponential smoothing approach with a trend at the end of 2020 the assets of Indonesian Islamic banks are estimated to reach Rp. 553 trillion. So, if nothing extraordinary happens - which is inorganic - and the assumption of 'ceteris paribus', the assets of Islamic banks in Indonesia at the end of 2020 will be in the range of Rp. 516 to Rp. 553 trillion 'only'. The growth of Indonesian Islamic banks asset in 2020 is between 7.3%-14.9%. This is expected to be realized.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of zakat disclosure, especially on the application of corporate social responsibility (CSR) which is the contribution of Islamic banking to its financial performance, namely return on assets and return on equity. This study focuses on 8 Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia from 2011 to 2020. The sample was selected based on the transparency regarding zakat disclosure in their annual report. The method in this study uses a panel data approach. The results show that the contribution of zakat disclosure as corporate social responsibility has a positive and significant effect on both models of Islamic bank financial performance in Indonesia. This shows that CSR through zakat can support the stakeholder theory where Islamic banks that focus on social obligations will improve their financial performance. This study provides a theoretical contribution by explaining disclosure of zakat is an obligation for Islamic banks, and provides important empirical evidence for policy implications. Thus, Islamic bank management may find the importance of CSR in zakat disclosure through reports on sources of funds and distribution of zakat funds in their financial statements for the benefit of stakeholders.
