Abstract

It is a Research and Development study. This study aims to present the results of the needs analysis of Maritime English teaching materials in the D4 Nautical Study Program of the Indonesian State Maritime Polytechnic (Polimarin). The data in this study were obtained through a questionnaire was distributed and filled in by 60 respondents, namely active students of the D4 Polimarin Nautical Study Program. In addition, interviews were also conducted with lecturers who teach Maritime English and the Head of the D4 Nautical Study Program. The obtained data were analyzed qualitatively using needs analysis. The results of the analysis of the teaching material needs obtained show that basically the teaching materials have been provided by the lecturers, but have not been provided systematically in form of module or book. Students do not have teaching materials to handle and study them at home. The findings of this study will be used to develop and improve Maritime English teaching materials in the D4 Nautical study program. In the future, teaching materials will be developed in the form of module according to student needs in line with the applicable curriculum.

Abstract

A seaman is dealing with long distance relationship with main relatives especially spouse. On the other side of the normal human biological needs will certainly work normally anyway. Possibilities in order to deal with the biological desire, seafarer can only waiting petiently to go home to meet their partner or using sex aids. Various ways are also applied diverse. Some of them are loyal to the couple so they wait to go home to release desire, or perform a masturbation. They could also hire prostitutes. The various ways to release the passion could produced many effects, the most common is the impact of sexual health. Usually each individual understanding of literature related to PMS (Penyakit menular seksual) sexually transmitted disease STD, greatly affects the biological impingement. For those who know and understand the risk of STDs, preferred to conduct safe sex as faithful to their partner, or for those who like releasing desire with prostitute will use safety devices such as condoms. The conclusion of this research is the understanding of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) to the seaman at Tanjung Emas in Semarang in 2013 has very positive influence.

Abstract

Seiring dengan berkembangnya ekonomi global yang begitu cepat, hal ini juga diiringi dengan kemajuan teknologi, informasi dan teknologi komunikasi. maka tingkat interaksi antar individu dari berbagai belahan dunia juga meningkat secara drastis. Dengan adanya kemajuan dalam bidang tersebut, komunikasi interpersonal menuntut kita sekarang ini untuk menguasai lebih dari satu bahasa Bahasa adalah sebuah sistem tanda yang kita gunakan untuk herkomunikasi dengan orang lain Faktanya adalah bahwa kemampuan berbicara dengan lebih satu bahasa bukan hanya menimbulkan bilingualism akan tetapi juga membuat orang cenderung untuk mencampur (mix) atau mengubah (switch) bahasa kapanpun mereka berbicara. Dalam penelitian ini penulis fokus pada tiga permasalahan yaitu 1) Jenis atau Tipe alih kode yang terjadi atau dilakukan oleh kru kapal dalam percakapan mereka, 2) Faktor atau alasan yang mendorong para kru untuk melakukan alih kode, dan 3) Adakah dampak atau masalah yang timbul dari praktek alih kode ini dalam kegiatan kerja di kapal Beberapa teori diambil sebagai landasan dalam penelitian ini, antara lain teori tentang sosiolinguistik, kedwibahasaan, alih kode, faktor yang mempengaruhi alih kode dan fungsi alih kode digunakan untuk menganalisis permasalahan yang diajukan dalam penelitian Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi, wawancara, kuesioner dan catatan. Data disajikan dalam bentuk tabel sehingga mempermudah dalam menganalisa masalah dalam penelitian ini. Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini. adalah 1) ada tiga jenis alih kode yang dilakukan oleh kru dalam interaksi mereka yaitu inter-sentential switching, intra-sentential switching dan tag switching 2) beberapa faktor ata alasan melatarbelakangi atau mendorong kru untuk melakukan alih kode antara lain membuat percakapan lebih mudah dimengerti oleh lawan tutur.mengarahkan topic pembicaraan dari formal ke informal dan sebaliknya, menciptakan interaksi yang lebih dekat dan santai. Kesulitan menemukan makna atau arti kata dalam bahasa yang anda gunakan, untuk menunjukkan solidaritas dengan orang lain. Untuk membuat lebih mudah memahami opini. Maksud mengklarifikasi menjelaskan isi pembicaraan kepada lawan bicara, dan pengulangan yang dilakukan sebagai klarifikasi berbicara mengenai topic tertentu. 3) Praktek alih kode tidak menimbulkan dampak dalam proses kerja di kapal, karena justru dengan alih kode, pesan atau informasi akan lebih mudah untuk dipahami atau dimengerti oleh lawan bicara.

Abstract

The research entitled Efektivitas Mata Kuliah Bahasa Indonesia Dalam Rangka Meningkatkan Kemampuan Menulis Tugas Akhir Mahasiswa (Effectiveness of Bahasa Indonesia Courses in Order to Improve the Writing Ability of Student's Final Project) is a qualitative study with the object of research of students with a total of 50 people. This study aims to understand the role of the Indonesian language in improving the ability to write final assignments. For data collection techniques in this study using observation, documentation and questionnaire techniques. The types of data sources are primary and secondary. Then for data processing techniques by collecting data, editing data and interpreting data. The conclusion of this study is based on the standard size that is in accordance with the reference. Research and Development of DEPDAGRI now KEMENDAGRI (Ministry of Internal Affairs) applied with the results obtained from existing research data, the number of positive values that show the number 80.31%, which means the expected level of achievement is very effective because it gets 80%. Based on questionnaire data obtained by students learning about difficulties and they need help to be able to learn Indonesian Language courses for the sake of carrying out the final assignment they have to do after internship. 35.3% of them requested that the lecturers explain. 8.9% of them requested assignments and training and requested additional assistance. In addition, they requested that the lecturers explain briefly, because finally 5% answered the lecturers explained too quickly. As many as 4% of students answer Indonesian difficult because there is too much material and as many as 1% answer between lecturers and each other explain it differently.

Abstract

Dosen yang mewakili Politeknik Maritim Negeri Indonesia melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dalam upaya memberikan edukasi kepada warga desa setempat tentang langkah-langkah pencegahan penularan Covid-19 di Ngipik, Temanggung, Jawa Tengah. Sasaran utama program ini adalah mahasiswa dan lansia. Mengingat dampak Covid-19 yang sangat luas terhadap penduduk Ngipik dalam hal ekonomi, pendidikan, kesehatan, dan kebutuhan pokok, Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Dalam hal ini, tim menyumbangkan dana, kebutuhan pokok, perlengkapan sekolah, dan peralatan medis. Pendekatan modal sosial digunakan dalam konteks pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Temuan dari pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat di Ngipik menunjukkan bahwa warga desa menganggap kegiatan Tridharma yang dilakukan oleh Polimarin sebagai sumber bantuan yang substansial. Mereka berharap inisiatif pengabdian ini dapat diulang di masa mendatang, dengan fokus yang berbeda, sehingga dapat memberikan pengetahuan yang memberdayakan bagi warga. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah metode ceramah dengan memberikan sosialisasi/penyuluhan kepada Masyarakat. Hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian bahwa mereka menjadi lebih produktif, sebagaimana dibuktikan oleh kemampuan mereka untuk melaksanakan program pengembangan keterampilan yang menghasilkan peluang kerja. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah berhasil membuat penduduk semakin sadar akan bahaya Covid 19 yang dapat merenggut nyawa sehingga mereka kemudian menerapkan social distancing dan menjaga kebersihan dengan mengenakan masker dan mencuci tangan.Kata Kunci: Covid 19; Masker; Hand sanitizer.

Abstract

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has been getting attention as it puts a strong emphasis on specific language needs in various professional and academic settings, meeting the current trend of English education. As a sub-field of ESP, Maritime English (ME) is taught to students who are projected to be involved in the maritime industry. The present study explored the journey of teachers in integrating game-based learning to teach ME. Specifically, it investigated what teachers experienced in teaching ME, how teachers integrated games into teaching ME, and what challenges teachers faced in integrating games into teaching ME. A Collaborative Auto-Ethnographic Inquiry design was implemented in this qualitative study. The data were sourced from the four authors as we shared our experience in teaching from the first time we taught ME. The necessary data were collected through narrative inquiry, photo voice, and semi-structured interviews, followed by a thematic data analysis. The findings revealed challenges that were faced in teaching ME before and after integrating games. Through the discussion, we highlighted how professional teachers should prepare for the class and adapt to the situation in the class.

Abstract

The long-term goal of this research is Logistic English which is needed by maritime students, especially the port management study program, due to they have to master it, especially ESP (English for Special Purpose) Logistics. In addition, many alumni work for foreign shipping companies. This inspires the writer to conduct this research. The study entitled "The Influence of Logistic English Proficiency Towards Working Ability of Maritime University Alumni" was to determine how much influence the Logistics English skills possessed by maritime college students in Semarang. The method used in this study, for the population is maritime school students in Semarang, Indonesia, while the sample is using purposive sampling. This type of research uses causality. Meanwhile, for the instrument testing is the instrument validity test and the reliability test. The data collection techniques used questionnaires, observation, literature study, interviews and documentation. Data processing techniques using editing, scoring and tabulation. The data analysis technique uses multiple regression analysis test and goodness of fit test. While to test the data requirements using the normality test, linearity test and classical assumption test. The main finding in this study is that there is a relationship or influence of “Logistic English Proficiency Towards Working Ability of Maritime University Alumni”. Conclusion There is an influence between AKPELNI, STIMART AMNI, PIP and POLIMARIN, where the result has positive influence.

Abstract

This thesis presents an analysis on Edgar Allan Poe’s short story entitled Murder in the Rue Morgue. The purposes of this thesis are, first, to know the intrinsic elements of Murder in the Rue Morgue such as setting, character, plot and conflict, and theme. Second, to find out the relationship among the intrinsic elements of the short story. The methods used in this thesis were library research method and structural approach method. The library research method was applied to get information to support the ideas of this thesis, in this research using Edgar Allan Poe’s Short Story. Meanwhile, the structural approach method was used to analyze the intrinsic elements and how they are related one to another. The result of the analysis shows how the intrinsic elements especially setting, character, plot and conflict and theme are described in Murder in the Rue Morgue. From the analysis above we know, that Murder in the Rue Morgue tells about thriller and massacre happens in Rue Morgue, fourth floor apartment. The writer makes conclusion that the theme is “analytic mind is useless without assistance and cooperation” The theme is based on the fact that the main character named Dupin has analytic mind, with his analytic mind, he can solve every case happens around him. When there is murder case in Rue Morgue, the cooperation and assistance are formed then the truth is revealed, and the murderer is Ourang-outang. Penelitian ini menyajikan analisis tentang cerita pendek Edgar Allan Poe berjudul Murder in Rue Morgue. Tujuan dari tesis ini adalah, pertama, untuk mengetahui unsur-unsur intrinsik Pembunuhan di Rue Morgue seperti seting, karakter, plot dan konflik, dan tema. Kedua, untuk mengetahui hubungan unsur intrinsik dari cerpen. Metode yang digunakan dalam tesis ini adalah metode penelitian kepustakaan dan metode pendekatan struktural. Metode penelitian perpustakaan diterapkan untuk mendapatkan informasi untuk mendukung ide-ide tesis ini, dalam penelitian ini menggunakan Cerpen Edgar Allan Poe. Sementara itu, metode pendekatan struktural digunakan untuk menganalisis elemen intrinsik dan bagaimana mereka terkait satu sama lain. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bagaimana elemen intrinsik terutama pengaturan, karakter, plot dan konflik dan tema dijelaskan dalam Murder in Rue Morgue. Dari analisis di atas kita tahu, bahwa Pembunuhan di Rue Morgue bercerita tentang film pembunuhan dan pembantaian yang terjadi di Rue Morgue, di depan apartemen. Penulis membuat kesimpulan bahwa tema adalah "pikiran analitik tidak berguna tanpa bantuan dan kerjasama" Tema ini didasarkan pada kenyataan bahwa karakter utama bernama Dupin memiliki pikiran analitik, dengan pikiran analitiknya, ia dapat menyelesaikan setiap kasus yang terjadi di sekitarnya. Ketika ada kasus pembunuhan di Rue Morgue, kerja sama dan bantuan terbentuk maka kebenaran terungkap, bahwa pembunuhnya adalah Ourang-outang.
