Abstract

Seed deterioration is the process of deteriorated seed in view of viability that has changed its physiological and nutritional  content.  This paper studies the effect of seed drying and seed storage to the viability and biochemical content of jelutung (Dyera polyphylla (Miq.) Steenis) seeds. Completely Randomized Design was used for different level of seed drying time, i.e.  0, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours, and Completely Randomized Factorial Design was used for the combination of  seed drying treatments of 0, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours in different rooms for seed storage (ambient room, air conditioned room, refrigerator) with variables of moisture content, germination percentage and nutritional content. Result shows that seed drying and seed storage treatments pursue  the change of seed viability and nutritional  content of jelutung seed. The period of time in seed drying and seed storage siginificantly influence the moisture content, germination percentage and nutritional composition (lipid, carbohydrate, protein). The longer time of seed drying will effect significantly to the moisture content and germination percentage, increasing the lipid and protein and decreasing carbohydrate. Jelutung seed that was stored in air conditioned room had  better viability compared to  ambient room and refrigerator.

Abstract

Eboni  (Diospyros  celebica Bakh.)  merupakan  jenis  tanaman  yang potensial  untuk dikembangkan  pada pembangunan hutan tanaman. Benih bermutu tinggi diperlukan dalam program pengembangan jenis ini dan penyimpanan benih tidak dapat dihindari berkaitan dengan penyediaan benih. Penyimpanan benih eboni ditujukan untuk mempertahankan viabilitas benih agar tetap tinggi. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui dampak perubahan kandungan biokimia dan fisiologis benih eboni selama penyimpanan. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap pola Faktorial dengan perlakuan faktor ruang simpan dan periode penyimpanan.  Hasil  penelitian  menunjukkan perubahan  fisiologis benih eboni  selama penyimpanan mengakibatkan adanya penurunan nilai daya berkecambah dan kadar air benih ; perubahan biokimia benih eboni selama penyimpanan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kandungan lemak dan protein serta penurunan kandungan karbohidrat seiring dengan lamanya pengeringan dan penyimpanan ; penyimpanan benih eboni di ruang simpan AC dapat mempertahankan viabilitas benih selama 8 minggu, dengan daya berkecambahnya hingga 61,94% dengan kadar air 46,69%. Berdasarkan reaksi fisiologis dan biokimia yang terjadi, maka benih eboni dapat dikatagorikan sebagai benih rekalsitran.

Abstract

ABSTRACTSeed vigor testing become important component of seed analysis as seed vigor affects the ability of seeds to growth and to reach normal productivity in sub optimum conditions. This research aimed to determine the growth strenght vigor and the storability vigor of the Acacia crassicarpa A.Cunn.Ex Benth seeds from five seeds sources. The experimental was designed using completely randomized factorial design with 4 replication. Each replication consisted of 100 seeds. The results showed that seeds from seedling seed orchards (sso) had better vigor than seeds from production area. Growth strength vigor of sso's seeds increased germination rate by 11% and speed germination by 0,8% per etmal. Storability vigor of sso's seeds increased germination rate by 12% and speed germination by 0,84% per etmal.Keywords: Acacia crassicarpa, seed, seed source and vigor.ABSTRAKPengujian vigor benih menjadi komponen penting dari analisis benih karena vigor benih mempengaruhi kemampuan benih untuk tumbuh dan berproduksi normal pada kondisi sub optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui vigor kekuatan tumbuh relatif dan vigor daya simpan relatif pada benih Acacia crassicarpa A.Cunn.Ex Benth dari 5 sumber benih. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial dengan ulangan 4 kali, setiap ulangan terdiri dari 100 benih. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa benih A. crassicarpa yang berasal dari sumber benih kebun benih semai (KBS) memiliki vigor yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan benih dari areal produksi benih (APB). Vigor kekuatan tumbuh benih KBS memiliki peningkatan daya berkecambah sebesar 11% dan t kecepatan berkecambah sebesar 0,8% per etmal. Vigor daya simpan benih dari KBS memiliki peningkatan daya berkecambah sebesar 12% dan kecepatan berkecambah sebesar 0,84% per etmal.Kata kunci: Acacia crassicarpa, benih, vigor dan sumber benih

Abstract

Metoda ekstraksi benih akan mempengaruhi mutu fisik dan fisiologis benih yang dihasilkan. Selain itu, mutu fisik dan fisiologis benih juga dipengaruhi oleh faktor ukuran benih. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metoda ekstraksi dan ukuran benih terhadap mutu fisik-fisiologis benih hasil pemuliaan dan yang belum dimuliakan untuk jenis A. crassicarpa. Ekstraksi benih dilakukan dengan cara pengeringan, yaitu dengan penjemuran di bawah sinar matahari dan menggunakan alat pengeringan (seed drier). Pengeringan dengan cara penjemuran di bawah sinar matahari dilakukan selama 1 s/d 5 hari dan dengan cara seed drier dilakukan selama 1 s/d 5 jam. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Acak Lengkap. Sedangkan untuk mendapatkan klasifikasi ukuran benih A. crassicarpa berdasarkan  dimensi  benih  (panjang, lebar,  dan tebal)  digunakan  ayakan/mesh, dan klasifikasi berdasarkan berat digunakan alat Seed gravity Table. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metoda ekstraksi dan ukuran benih yang terbaik untuk benih hasil pemuliaan dan yang belum dimuliakan, yaitu : (1) Ekstraksi benih dengan cara pengeringan seed drier selama 4 jam atau dengan cara penjemuran sinar matahari selama 3 hari dan (2) Benih yang berukuran besar dan paling berat memiliki viabilitas lebih baik dibandingkan dengan benih berukuran sedang, kecil dan ringan. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa benih hasil pemuliaan dapat menghasilkan mutu fisik fisiologis yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan yang belum dimuliakan.

Abstract

ABSTRACTSeed characteristics are important to be known for determining the proper seed handling techniques. The aim of this research is to reveal the characteristics of kayu bawang seed. The tests were conducted based on drying times (0, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120 hours) and seed room storage (ambient room, air conditioned room, refrigerator). The results showed that kayu bawang seeds are belong to the recalcitrant seeds with initial moisture content of 57.21%, germination percentage of 83%, fat content of 17.04%, carbohydrate content of 9.07% and protein content of 12.69%. Drying rate and the room storage factors affected significanlyt on germination, moisture content, carbohydrate and fat content of kayu bawang seed, while the protein content was the only factor that had significant effect to period time of storage. Longer drying times decreased water content, germinationrate and carbohydrates content. In contrary, longer drying times increased fat and protein contents. Kayu bawang seeds can be stored at ambient room or air conditioned room and should be germinated shortly and it has to be planted.Keywords: Azadirachta excelsa, characteristics, drying, seed, storageABSTRAKKarakteristik benih penting diketahui karena untuk menentukan teknik penanganan benih secara tepat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeetahui karakteristik benih kayu bawang. Pengujian dilakukan berdasarkan tingkat pengeringan (0, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120 jam) dan ruang penyimpanan benih (ruang suhu kamar, AC, kulkas). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa benih kayu bawang termasuk benih reklasitran dengan kadar air awal 57,21%, daya berkecambah 83%, kadar lemak 17,04%, kadar karbohidrat 9,07% dan kadar protein 12,69%. Faktor tingkat pengeringan dan tempat penyimpanan benih berpengaruh signifikan terhadap daya berkecambah, kadar air, kadar karbohidrat dan kadar lemak benih kayu bawang sedangkan terhadap kadar protein hanya faktor waktu simpan yang berpengaruh nyata. Semakin lama benih dikeringkan mengakibatkan terjadinya penurunan kadar air, daya berkecambah dan kadar karbohidrat, namun meningkatkan kadar lemak dan protein. Benih kayu bawang bisa disimpan di ruang kamar atau di ruang AC dalam waktu singkat dan harus segera disemaikan.Kata kunci : Azadirachta excelsa, karakteristik benih, pengeringan, penyimpanan

Abstract

Kaliandra (Calliandra calothyrsus Meissn.) is a potential species as a feedstock for making wood pellets with a heating value of 4,722 cal/g. The objective of this study was to determine the genetic diversity of kaliandra seedlings in the nursery from four populations in West Java, namely Cianjur, Garut, Sukabumi, and Sumedang. Seed collection is carried out from each population, then germinated at the nursery of the Nagrak Research Station, Bogor Regency. Using a Completely Randomized Block Design, with 4 replications from each population, each repetition consisted of 10 seedlings, the results showed that the best height growth (59.75 cm) was produced from Cianjur and the best diameter (4.44 mm) was produced from Sukabumi. Seedling height can be used as a criterion for the selection of parent trees at the nursery level because the high seedling heritability (0.333 and 0.656) is relatively higher than the diameter of the seedlings (0.114 and 0.445), both individuals and families. The genetic correlation between traits shows a high value that is equal to (0.562).

Abstract

Trema orientalis L. Blume is a multipurpose plant for all parts of the tree can be used. In order to support the successful development of this plant, seed quality is required, in which one of the requirements for determining quality seed is the seed should come from physiologically fruit mature. The research objective was to determine the quality of the physical, physiological quality, and a biochemical content (fat, carbohydrate and protein) of trema seed based on of fruit maturity. Trema seed used in this research comes from Badung regency, Bali Province. Trema fruit grouped into three color level (green, brown, black). The research design used is CRD (completely randomized design) with a treatment rate of fruit color. Parameters were observed ie. fruit and seed size, the weight of the fruit and seeds, fruit and seed moisture content, content of biochemistry (protein, fat, carbohydrates), germination and speed germination. The results showed: (1) The level of maturity of the fruit significantly affects the physical quality (size of fruit and seeds, fruit weight and seed, the water content of fruits and seeds), physiological (germination, speed of germination), and the content of biochemistry (fats, carbohydrates, protein) trema seed, (2) Quality of physical and physiological seed that comes from the fruit of the black better than the green and chocolate fruit, (3) the content of fats, carbohydrates and protein of trema seed differ for each level of maturity (green, brown, black), (4) Fruit Trema reaching physiological maturity is the fruit of the black with criteria that is : long fruit 3,87 ± 0,05 mm and width 3,41 ± 0,02 mm; long seed 2,10 ± 0,05 mm and width 1,81 ± 0.06 mm; 1000 grain weight of fruit 25.6883 grams; 1000 grain weight of seed 3.8288g; moisture content of fruit 54,74%; moisture content of seed 12,03%; percentage germination 78%; speed of germination 3,05% / Etmal; content of carbohydrate 20,10%; content of protein 2,84% and content of fat 0,65%.

Abstract

Selama pengeringan dan penyimpanan, benih bambang lanang mengalami proses kemunduran benih. Kemunduran benih adalah mundurnya mutu viabilitas benih yang dapat menyebabkan perubahan menyeluruh di dalam benih baik fisik, fisiologis maupun kimiawi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perubahan viabilitas dan kandungan biokimia benih bambang lanang pada berbagai tingkat pengeringan dan metode penyimpanan. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) berpola faktorial dengan 2 faktor, yaitu : faktor lama pengeringan (0, 24, 48, 72, jam) dan faktor metode simpan (0 minggu/kontrol, 2 minggu+ruang  suhu  kamar,  2  minggu+kulkas,  dan  2  minggu+DCS).     Hasil  yangdiperoleh yaitu : (1) Tingkat pengeringan dan metode penyimpanan berpengaruh nyata terhadap nilai kadar air, daya berkecambah, dan kandungan biokimia (lemak, karbohidrat, protein) benih bambang lanang, (2) Semakin lama pengeringan dan setelah penyimpanan, akan menyebabkan adanya perubahan viabilitas (kadar air dan daya berkecambah) dan kandungan biokimia (lemak, karbohidrat, dan protein) benih bambang lanang pada berbagai tingkat pengeringan dan metode penyimpanan, yaitu menurunnya nilai kadar air dan daya berkecambah, meningkatnya kadar lemak dan protein, serta menurunnya kadar karbohidrat pada benih bambang lanang, dan (3) Benih bambang lanang yang disimpan di ruang suhu kamar dapat menghasilkan viabilitas benih yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan di DCS dan kulkas.

Abstract

Nyamplung (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) is one of forestry plant that has double benefits (economic and ecological). One of the problems faced in the development of nyamplung is its recalcitrant seed, which can not be stored for long periods. To increase the viability of nyamplung seed during storage, seed invigoration techniques are required. Invigoration is the treatment given to seeds before planting with the aim of improving germination and growth of sprouts. The purpose of this research is to know the proper invigoration technique on nyamplung seed during storage. The experimental design of the research was used Completely Randomized Design (CRDL) with factorial. There are 2 factors treatments: the first factor of: Invigoration treatment (control, osmoconditioning with soaking in aquades for 24 hours, osmoconditioning with immersion in PEG-6000 concentration 15 % for 24 hours, matriconditioning with moisture of newspaper (CD) for 2 hours, and matriconditioning with moisture ash scrub for 2 hours) and savings period factor the second factor of period of storage (0, 1, and 2 months). The research was conducted with replication is 4 times, @ each with 50 seeds of seed. The observation of germination is done after normal sprout growth, which it has of a pair of leaves. The parameters observed were germination and germination rate. The results showed that the proper invigoration technique on nyamplung seed during storage was the treatment of matriconditioning with moisture of newspaper (CD) for 2 hours. With this treatment it can increase the viability of seed nyamplung (germination) at 42 % and vigor seed (germination rate) at 0,56 % /etmal. results at the end of the abstract.
