Abstract

One indicator to measure the degree of health is maternal mortality. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (2019), around 830 women die from complications during pregnancy and childbirth, where 94% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries including Indonesia. This study aims to determine the relationship of prenatal yoga on anxiety facing childbirth in primigravida Trimester III mothers. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The population is Primigravida Trimester III pregnant women in the working area of the Pasar Kepahiang Health Center as many as 120 people. A sample of 34 people consisted of 17 experimental groups and 17 control groups. Sampling in case groups by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed by Paired Sample t-test. The results showed the average anxiety in the experimental group before the intervention (pre-test) was 59.65 and after the intervention (post-test) was 43.76 while the average anxiety in the control group before the intervention (pre-test) was 57.59 and after the intervention (post-test) namely 52.53. There were differences in anxiety in the control group (p value = 0.004) and the experimental group (p value = 0,000) before and after the intervention. It is expected that midwifery health services can do prenatal yoga as an alternative in conducting midwifery care to reduce the level of anxiety of pregnant women

Abstract

Background: Preoperative anxiety is a prevalent psychological response among pediatric patients undergoing surgery, which tends to escalate during the induction of anesthesia. Elevated anxiety levels can trigger negative behavioral manifestations—such as crying, screaming, and resisting medical procedures—while adversely affecting the anesthesia induction process, postoperative recovery, and the child's overall psychological well-being. Parental presence and the utilization of digital devices as distraction methods represent potential non-pharmacological interventions to alleviate pediatric anxiety throughout the perioperative period. Method: This study employed a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest with a control group design. The study population comprised 371 pediatric patients undergoing anesthesia at Dr. Hasan Sadikin Central General Hospital, Bandung. A sample of 60 respondents was selected via purposive sampling and allocated into either the intervention group or the control group. The intervention group received parental presence combined with digital device distraction, whereas the control group received parental presence alone. Anxiety levels were measured using the Modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (mYPAS). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney U tests due to the non-normal distribution of the data. Result: The mean difference in pre-to-postoperative anxiety scores was 11.50 in the intervention group and 10.50 in the control group. The comparative analysis of anxiety levels revealed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups during the induction of anesthesia (p = 0.047; p < 0.05).Conclusion: Parental presence integrated with digital device distraction is significantly more effective in mitigating pediatric anxiety during anesthesia induction than parental presence alone. This intervention can be recommended as a viable non-pharmacological strategy to minimize preoperative anxiety and foster a more positive perioperative experience for pediatric patients.

Abstract

Pain experienced by patients before neurosurgery surgery becomes a problem during intraoperative, namely the emergence of neurogenic shock and increased use of anaesthetic drugs that can have the effect of post-anesthesia sedation and increased intracranial pressure. Hand massage is able to reduce pain perception by providing stimulation to the nerves so as to reduce the perception of pain transmitted to the brain. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of P6 hand massage on pain reduction in neurosurgery preoperative patients at Kanjuruhan Hospital Malang. This research method uses a quasy-experiment pretest-posttest research design with control group. The sampling technique used total sampling technique involving 30 respondents. Data analysis using Wicolxon test and Mann Whitney test. The research instrument used the Numeric Rating Scale pain scale. Data collection was carried out on 13 February - 23 March 2024 at Premedication Anesthesia Installation Kanjuruhan Hospital Malang. A statistically significant difference in pain levels was observed before and after the hand massage intervention in both groups, as indicated by a p-value of 0.028 (p < 0.05) and There was a significant difference in the reduction of pain scale scores, with a p-value of 0.008 (p < 0.05).
