Abstract

The problem of this study was “Was it effective to use Six Thinking Hats Strategy in teaching reading narrative text to the eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 9 of Palembang?” The aim of this study was to find out whether or not it was effective to use Six Thinking Hats strategy in teaching reading narrative text to the eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 9 of Palembang.The population was the eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 9 of Palembang in academic year of 2018/2019. The sample was 36 students who were chosen by cluster random sampling. This study employed Pre- experimental design with the one-group pretest-posttest design. The data were collected through written test in form of Multiple choice which implemented in pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using matched t-test formula.The result of the study is found that the students’ average score in the         pre-test was 47,57 and the students’ average score in the post-test was 73,68. Based on the matched t-test calculation, it was found that the t-obtained was 4,854. The critical value of 5% significance level was 1.690. It showed that the      t-obtained was higher than the t-table. From this study it was found that teaching reading narrative text by using Six Thinking Hats strategy to the eighth grade students of PGRI Junior High School 9 of Palembang was effective.

Abstract

The main problem of this study is  “What were the eleventh grade students’ perception on the use Johnny grammar’s word challenge application in learning prepositions and the impact of Johnny grammar’s word challenge application the eleventh grade at PGRI Vocational High School 2 of Palembang?”. This study aimed to investigate the eleventh grade students’ perception on the use Johnny grammar’s word challenge application in learning prepositions at PGRI Vocational High School 2 of Palembang. This data acquired from questionnaires based on four indicators, this research used a descriptive qualitative method in this study. Based on the achievement of the questionnaire, it can be concluded that all indicator high category shows that amounts to 9 (16.36%) students which means the students have comprehension ability is fair, the indicator medium category shows that amounts to 41(74.54%) students which means all of the students understand Johnny Grammar’s Word Challenge Application and the low category shows that amounts to 11 (20%) students which means the students half of them can not able to understand Johnny Grammar’s Word Challenge Application. So, it can be concluded that using Johnny Grammar’s Word Challenge Application can help students learn prepositions

Abstract

The objective of this research aims to find out whether or not significant correlation between parents’ education and the parents’ involvement, parents’ education and the twelfth graders’ English achievement , parents’ involvement and the twelfth graders’ English achievement , and parents’ education parent’s involvement and the twelfth graders’ English achievement of SMAN 5 Prabumulih academic year of 2019/2020 which consisted of six classes. A quantitative method used in this research also used a stratified random sampling methods. There are two kinds of data will be analyzed. The first is questionnaire and the second is the data of documents. There was any significant influence because significant output (0,000) was lower than the mean of significant influence at 0.05 levels. It could be concluded that there were any significant influence of parents’ education and parents’ involvement toward English achievement.

Abstract

The objectives of the study are to find out whether or not(1) There is  significant influence of extensive reading towards students’ reading comprehension between those who have height reading interest and those who have low reading interest at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tulung Selapan (2) There is significant influence of conventional reading strategy toward the eleventh grade students’ reading comprehension between who those have high reading interest and those who have low reading interest at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tulung Selapan. (3) There is significant influence of extensive reading strategy and conventional reading strategy towards the eleventh grade students’ reading comprehension between  those who have high reading interest and those who have low reading interest at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tulung Selapan.(4) There is significant interaction effect of extensive reading strategy and reading interest on students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tulung Selapan. This study used Saphiro-Wilk test and it used Levene's test in testing the homogenity. It was found that the significance value for homogeneity test (Levene’s test) was 0.021 which is lower than 0.05, therefore the data was not considered homogeny, so the writers took the equal variances not assumed on t-test. Next, the significance value  for t-test was 0.000. It showed that there was a significant difference of extensive reading strategy and no treatment reading strategy on the eleventh grade students’ reading comprehension who have low reading interest because the sig. value  was lower than 0.05. That means the null hypothesis (Ho3b) is rejected.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to increasing vocabulary and learning activeness of fifth grade students at Insan Mandiri Cendekia Palembang. The method which used in this study is classroom action research where it took place in 2 cycles. The result of this study found that there was improvement of students' vocabulary and learning activeness. The score of minimum completeness criteria of English lesson was 70. In vocabulary test cycle 1, there were 16students who passed the minimum completeness criteria or 49% of students. And in vocabulary test cycle 2, there were 29 students who passed the minimum completeness criteria or 89% of students. There was improvement of student's vocabulary as 40%where from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The students’ learning activeness increased during the teaching learning process whereas it indicated the students’ learning activeness had increased.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Mistake Buster Technique in improving the writing achievement of tenth-grade students at SMK Yayasan Bakti Prabumulih. The objective was to determine whether the use of this technique effectively enhanced the students' ability to write recount paragraphs. An experimental design was employed for this study, specifically a group pretest and posttest design. The population consisted of all tenth-grade students at SMK Yayasan Bakti in the academic year 2021–2022, totaling 60 students. A sample of 28 students was selected using purposive sampling, with 28 students assigned to the experimental group (X TKJ 1) and 32 students to the control group (X TKJ 2). The data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using SPSS 23 software. The results revealed that the experimental group had an average posttest score of 68.03, while the control group had an average posttest score of 61.92. The critical value at a significance level of 0.05 for a one-tailed test with 62 degrees of freedom was 1.699. As the obtained t-value of 13.920 was higher than the t-table value, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. This indicates a significant difference between the tenth-grade students at SMK Yayasan Bakti who were taught using the Mistake Buster Technique for learning to write recount paragraphs and those who were not.

Abstract

This study focused on the utilization of E-Learning in English language instruction at SMP Negeri 1 of Banyuasin III. The study aimed to achieve three objectives: 1) identify the E-Learning media employed by teachers in English teaching; 2) examine the implementation of E-Learning applications by teachers in English instruction; and 3) investigate the challenges encountered by both teachers and students in utilizing E-Learning media for English learning. The research methodology employed was qualitative-descriptive, which involved data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings of the study revealed the following: 1) Google Classroom and YouTube were utilised as learning platforms; 2) the implementation of E-Learning in English instruction involved three stages: planning, implementation (including opening, core activities, and closing), and evaluation; 3) the major challenges faced by teachers included a lack of technological resources and difficulties in assessing student comprehension in the E-Learning environment; and 4) students encountered challenges related to distractions from other applications and difficulties in social interaction within the E-Learning setting.

Abstract

The objective of this research aims to know the types, the causes of lexical error found in translating narrative text, and the steps of the implication theory for teaching English as a foreign language. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with the strategy of Case Study. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with the strategy of Case Study in which analyzing by describing the lexical errors that student produces in translating narrative text from English into Indonesian. The source of data is the narrative text entitled "The Fox and the Grapes". The data were collected by using review book and interview. Based on the research, the researcher found The errors included Prefix type (5 errors), Misselection (2 errors), Using wrong near-synonym (1 error), semantically determined word selection (28 error). Errors committed due to the learner’s inability to recall, errors caused by confusion between formally similar items. The theoretical implication for language teaching. The finding of this research hopefully can give a contribution to the English teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This research aims to compare students who receive learning through picture series with students who receive conventional teaching methods. learning recount text used picture series, determined the success of learning interest students' English. Teaching English in Indonesia is learners must be able to communicate with native speakers of the language and understood that English is used as a second language in some state sectors of the nation that function as bridges to other languages, such as trade and education. The research method used in This method is quantitative which used data collection techniques through pretest and post-test at SMP Negeri 1 Pedamaran. Based on this research, the picture series method was used. could have a significant positive impact on English learning, especially in English writing skills. Students become able to write. From the results of this research, students agree that used the series drew method could improve writing skills them, about recount text. the results of their writing practice through a picture series.
