Abstract

Motivation plays an indispensable role in the students' English language learning. As a result, teachers are expected to be able to employ miscellaneous teaching activities to enhance the students' motivation. One of them is collaborative teaching activities. In particular, collaborative teaching activities should not only engage students to learn enthusiastically but also help teachers organize and prepare their teaching practices flexibly. The present study accentuated to delineate students’ motivation on the implementation of collaborative teaching activities during learning English speaking. The participants were ten students of a university in Banjarmasin, Indonesia. The data were gathered through administering an open-ended questionnaire and analyzed with Thematic Analysis (TA) (Braun Clarke, 2006). The findings reported that students were motivated to learn English speaking through collaborative activities.

Abstract

Since English is not our language, some EFL students often face difficulties in learning it. Therefore, the teachers try to create or adapt several techniques and try to find an alternative media for teaching English that can be used to solve the problem. Anyway, songs from YouTube are one of the alternative media in learning English. Through songs you can make the boredom away, can also have some fun while you are studying. Qualitative method was employed in this research. The data needed in this research were collected by using open-ended questionnaire and interview related to the songs from YouTube as a media innovation in learning English. The method used in this research is random sampling and chosen them as the representative of English Department of Lambung Mangkurat University academic year 2015 to 2017 which 40 students had involved during the research. The data analyzed based on the questionnaire and interview, all of the students mentioned that they love studying English through songs with a variation, not only seriously focused on grammar. They learnt many new words either the meaning or the way of pronouncing the words in the songs. From the selected songs on YouTube application, they just realized that songs can be used to learn grammar as well. In addition, the importance of through knowledge of English Language is becoming more and more obvious in modern world in which communication increasingly takes place in English.

Abstract

Nowadays, EFL teachers are benefited by the abundance of technological resources that enable them to provide learners with sufficient comprehensible input. Yet, not all of them are literate to the available supported devices neither in the form of webs nor other internet applications. Therefore, this study aims at describing a view toward a trend of ICT use as learning resources both in a form of web and internet based applications used by pre-service teachers.This research employed mix-method research by using an open-ended questionnaire and interview with 24 pre-service teachers as participants who study in English department, Lambung Mangkurat University. The finding of this study revealed that even there are several pre-service teachers who encountered problems when using the available applications, nevertheless, most of them have a positive perspective on ICT use in teaching and learning activities. Moreover, it is found that mostly MALL (Mobile Assisted Language Learning) applications have familiar to be used during the learning time especially out of the class rather than CALL applications.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery, especially related to wetlands also need to be considered deeply because it is a common area in Kalimantan. English Language Educational Department at ULM is on part of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education which deals with many schools and students who live in a wetland area. Therefore, the knowledge about the surrounding areas and try to integrate the local knowledge or culture is necessary. This research is focusing on the English Language Educational Department Students’ view with regard to their environment. It is expected if they know more about their surroundings, they can be more creative in integrating their knowledge in English and modified the material that is familiar to their future students. It is a qualitative research with 25 English Language Educational Department Students as the sample. The instruments are questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The result of this research shows that the students of the English Language Educational Department mentioned that it is necessary to add more vocabulary and reading texts or journals related to wetlands in the Department. They also mention write some common vocabularies relate to wetlands.

Abstract

An array of teaching tools have been developed enormously today sparking interest for educators in their instruction. Edmodo, which is also one of the CALL applications that can be accessed online both from computer and mobile telephone is one option for teachers and students and can be operated to post various things related to EFL teaching-learning process. However, many educators are reluctant to embed with them pedagogical function which coming along in the use of Edmodo. This research employed open-ended questionnaire which is spread to English Language Education ULM students who are taking Extensive Reading course. This research contributes to picture out perception in implementing Edmodo as Web-Quest as well Learning Management System (LMS) in online classroom instructional activities. The result of this study shows that the involvement of Edmodo to material delivery still does not encounter the predicted expectation. The limited storing material in the application and lack of feedback of the task through the media are the reasons of the barrier. In conclusion, the use of Edmodo needs to be developed along with the mindset of students centered activities.

Abstract

Pengajar perlu mengubah media pembelajaran di dalam proses pembelajaran  dengan menggunakan ICT (Information and Communication of Technology) untuk meningkatkan kualitas dan efisiensi di dalam proses pembelajaran, salah satunya yaitu Mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris Untuk AUD. Di Indonesia, belajar bahasa asing adalah proses yang terintegrasi. Akan tetapi, permasalahan yang terjadi adalah banyak siswa menganggap Bahasa Inggris sulit untuk dipelajari, terutama belajar di luar jam sekolah. Sehingga, dengan penggunaan media berbasis ICT dapat mengurangi pemikiran secara bertahap tentang sulitnya Bahasa Inggris. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi penggunaan media berbasis ICT baik komputer atau perangkat seluler dalam meningkatkan keterampilan Bahasa Inggris di proses pembelajaran Mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris Untuk AUD. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan metode campuran (mixed method) dengan subyek 35 siswa yang dijadikan sampel di Mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris untuk AUD kelas VI A tahun 2019/2020, PG PAUD FKIP ULM. Data akan dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan wawancara serta observasi yang dilakukan di kelas oleh dua penilai yang berbeda untuk menghindari bias. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa siswa memiliki tanggapan positif terhadap penggunaan ICT (aplikasi MALL) di dalam pembelajaran Mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris Untuk AUD. Hasil penelitian ini dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif dalam pembelajaran Mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris untuk AUD dengan menggunakan ICT.Kata Kunci : ICT, Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris
