Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of applied biology in everyday life by junior high school students in Tabanan District of Bali Province. The method used in this research is survey research method. Respondents who are the subject of this research are grade VIII students from 3 sample schools in Tabanan District. The three sample schools are Public Junior High School 2 Tabanan, Public Junior High School 1 Kerambitan, and Public Junior High School 2 Penebel. Data collection was done by distributing questionnaires to respondents. The questionnaire consists of 25 question items. The collected data is analyzed descriptively by presentation in the form of a complete description with visual data in the form of tables and graphs. Each question item is given a range of 0 to 5. The minimum score is 0, whereas the maximum score is 5. The total score of each student will be converted to a scale of 100. Next is determined the mean-value for each sample school. The mean grade of each sample school was then compared and classified. Categorization of the average value refers to the classification of absolute norms scale 5. Based on the results of research can be concluded that the application of applied biology by junior high school students in Tabanan District is still quite enough. This condition requires all of us who are work in the education sector to find solutions through further studies to a better level. Thus, the expectations of what students have learned in the field of biology are useful to them and their environment.

Abstract

School yards are a part of a few green open areas in urban environment. Therefore, school yard has important role for urban ecosystem. The goal of this research is to compare bioecological condition among elementary, middle and high schools and analyse the level of relationship among bioecological aspects, students and teachers preferencies toward their school yards. We have conducted research in 2008 which involved 20 elementary, 8 middle and 8 high schools at Denpasar Bali. Those schools were devided to be two groups: A (we observed their shool yards and have taken survey for students and teachers) and B (only taken survey to students and teachers). Results showed that percentage of oppened yard toward total areas of elementary school (46,5±17,1%) higher than middle school (38,8 ±15,5%) and high school (37,5±9,6%). Also the proportion of school garden in elementary school (30,2±20,3%) nearly twice higher than middle school (18,8± 6,3%) and high school (20,0±8,2%). Environmental preferencies of majority sample (>80%) were higher than point 4 of 7 Likert scales. Its mean, they tend to give positive image both artistic (beautiful, green, fresh, healty, happy and wide) and the ecological roles of school yard (rain water catchment, pollution absorbtion, animal habitat, oxygen supply, opennes toward sunlight and plant biodiversity). While plot of factor analysis showed that bioecological scores located in the same field with environmental preferencies of samples from group B. Thus the model of integration between environmental preferencies and bioecological evaluation able to give a new perspective of school yard as a socio-natural unit. Its not only important for ecosystem but also for human well-being. Thus we suggested to apply socio-natural approaches, mainly through enggaging non-owner communities in rating certain of the urban ecosistem.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out: (1) the readiness qualifications of lecturers doing e-learning in general; (2) qualification of lecturer's e-learning readiness based on readiness factor; (3) qualification of lecturer's readiness based on his birth generation. This research method uses a quantitative descriptive approach, with readiness assessment using the Aydin & Tasci Scale. The respondents were 21 lecturers of private colleges Biology Education in the Bali Region. The results showed: (1) lecturer readiness qualifications for e-learning are generally in the ready category, but need a slight improvement; (2) lecturer's e-learning readiness qualification based on readiness factor entered category is not ready, requires a slight improvement in financial readiness and technological readiness factor. Ready, but it takes a little improvement in sociological readiness, environmental readiness, human resource readiness, and equipment readiness. Ready, this e-learning implementation factor can be continued in psychological readiness and content readiness; and (3) qualifications for lecturer readiness based on their birth generation are in the ready category but need a slight improvement, with the highest readiness score in the baby boomer generation.
