Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan bagaimana strategi kesantunan digunakan dalam percakapan dalam buku Intermediate Javanese dan terjemahannya dan pentingnya strategi tersebut digunakan sebagai materi di kelas penerjemahan. Terdapat dua puluh dua data yang terdapat dalam empat percakapan. Pada tahap pertama, peneliti mengidentifikasi ujaran yang mengandung strategi kesantunan pada percakapan dalam buku Intermediate Javanese. Ujaran yang mengandung strategi kesantunan diklasifikasikan berdasarkan strategi kesantunan yang diterapkan. Pada tahap analisis, ujaran dianalisis alasan penggunaan strategi kesantunan tertentu. Berikutnya,  strategi kesantunan yang diterapkan pada bahasa sumber dibandingkan dengan strategi kesantunan yang diterapkan pada bahasa sasaran. Berdasar analisis, ditarik kesimpulan bahwa; ada tiga strategi kesantunan yang diterapkan pada percakapan; strategi kesantunanyang diterapkan pada bahasa sumber sebagian besar diterapkan sama dengan pada bahasa sasaran. Hanya sebagian kecil terjadi pergeseran strategi kesantunan.Temuan tersebut digunakan sebagai model text bagi mahasiswa pada saat menerjemahkan teks berbahasa Jawa ke dalam Bahasa Inggris.Memahami konsep kesantunan penting tidak saja untuk menghasilkan terjemahan yang berkualitas namun juga sebagai pendidikan karakter bagi mahasiswa.Kata kunci: Kesantunan, Penerjemahan, Pembelajaran Bahasa

Abstract

This community service was conducted for Karang Taruna, a youth organnization, at Perum Graha Kencana RT 01 RW 27 Kadipiro Surakarta. The focus was a training of using Rosetta Stone and Google Translation to improve English skills. The materials were delivered using three phases namely presentation, practise, and production. The training was beneficial for the participants specifically to improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills as well as translation. Having adequate understanding of using Rosetta Stone and Google Translation, the participants were able to develop their English especially when completing school assignments.Keywords: Rosetta Stone, Google Translation

Abstract

Sesuai owner requirement, sebuah kapal Floating Loading Facility (FLF) mengalami modifikasi kapal berupa penambahan parameter panjang kapal sepanjang 30 meter untuk menambah kapasitas loading muatan curah batubara dari kapal tongkang ke kapal kargo. Dengan adanya penambahan ukuran, stabilitas kapal menjadi salah satu hal yang harus diperhatikan untuk menjamin keamanan operasionalnya. Perhitungan berat dan titik berat dilakukan dengan berdasarkan data gambar General Arrangement dan gambar konstruksi, sehingga diperoleh data lightship kapal yang selanjutnya menjadi input perhitungan stabilitas dengan bantuan piranti lunak Maxsurf Stability. Perhitungan setiap kriteria stabilitas dilakukan pada variasi kondisi muatan berbeda sesuai dengan ketentuan yang tercantum pada IMO A. 749 (18) Resolution. Diperoleh hasil bahwa terjadi peningkatan kemampuan stabilitas setelah terjadi modifikasi panjang kapal dimana diantara beberapa kriteria, kondisi muatan kosong secara kuantitas paling baik pemenuhan terhadap nilai minimalnya.

Abstract

This research aimskat finding out whetherktherekiska significant correlation between the habit oflwatchinglEnglish moviesland vocabularylmastery at seventh-grade students of SMPlNegeril1 Colomadu. Thislresearchlwas conducted atlthe seventh gradelof SMPlNegeril1 Colomadulin 2020/2021 AcademiclYear. The researcher used a correlational study which was conducted from December 2020 until May 2021 at the class of VII E. The study was divided into two phases, each of which included two meetings. Each meeting also included data collection through the use of a Google Form. In order tolanalyze quantitativeldata, the researcherlusedlquestionnaires and tests. Based onlthelresult oflthe study, it showedlthatlthe coefficient of the correlationlbetween watchinglmovie habits andlvocabularylmastery was 0.685 withlthe levellsignificant 5% for theldegree oflfreedom (df) = 29 the rltable is 0.367, and the level significant 1% for theldegreeloflfreedom (df) = 29 the rltable is 0.470. By using coefficient correlation, criteria 0.685 is classified to interval 0.600 – 0.800 in the indexes of correlation which is sufficient correlation. It means that r-observation (rxy) was higher than r table and it was concluded that there was alsignificant correlationlbetween watchinglmovie habits andlvocabulary mastery at the seventh-gradelstudents of SMP Nl1 Colomadu inlthe 2020/2021 academiclyear.   Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Watching Movie Habits, Correlational Study

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the kinds and forms of expressive speech acts in the movie entitled Luca. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method. The researcher watching movie, taking notes, organizing the data into several parts based on classification. The researcher collected and classified the data then make conclusion. The researcher used the validity triangulation data and triangulation theory to check validation. The result of the research showed that there were 9 kinds expressive speech acts; thank, apologizing, congratulation, greeting, wishes, attitudes, praising, blaming, and forgiving and there were 3 forms of expressive speech acts; direct literal speech act, indirect literal speech act, direct non-literal speech act.   Key words: Expressive Speech Acts, Luca Movie

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the students’ attitude towards the use of Google Classroom in English learning at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 27 Surakarta 2022 / 2023 Academic Year. This study was conducted in the eighth grade of SMPN 27 Surakarta 2022 / 2023 Academic Year. The researchers utilize descriptive research which was conducted from June until July. The students of VIII-E were the subject of this research with totally of 30 students. Questionnaires to the students, interviewing the English teacher, and observing the class were the data collected by the researchers. To analyze the data, the researchers used qualitative data. The result of the research showed that the use of Google Classroom in learning English provides advantages and disadvantages for students. Using Google Classroom is quite effective for use in online learning. However, the use of Google Classroom in learning English is not good if it is applied continuously because it will make students difficult to learn English and improve their English skills. Most of the students also disagree that using Google Classroom is more flexible than face-to-face learning. Could be concluded that learning English using Google Classroom is quite helpful in learning during the pandemic, but the use of Google Classroom is not recommended to be used continuously in learning English. Abstract

This research aims to identify the function of slang words found in The After Party movie directed by Ian Edelman. This research focuses on classifying the function of slang words found in the movie by using the theory of function of slang words proposed by Zhou & Fan (2013). Descriptive qualitative approach was utilized in this research and the data was collected from the movie and the subtitles. The researcher collected the data through watching the movie, reading its subtitles, determining slang words, making notes, and classifying the data. In analyzing data, the researcher implemented interactive model analysis which consisted of four stages of analyzing data; data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The researcher found 85 slang terms uttered by characters from the movie. The characters utilized 12 slang terms to pursuit self-identity as part of particular groups, 52 slang terms to show emotive feelings of the users, and 21 slang terms to achieve politeness in maintaining relationship with others. Abstract

This study is qualitative descriptive research. The purpose of this research is to know kind of interrogative sentences and translation techniques impact to the translation quality in The Terminal movie subtitle. The source of data is the film transcript of The Terminal movie and its subtitle in Indonesian, and the information collected from rater. The technique of data collection was watching the movie, reading the script, and marking the interrogative sentences. In analyzing data, the researcher used the qualitative data analysis which covers domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, and componential analysis. Had been found 114 data, yes-no question (57,97%), wh-question (41,19%), and alternative question (0,87%), 2) the translation technique could be found in The Terminal movie, such as established equivalent (72,08%), variation (15,83%), pure borrowing (3,12%), modulation (2,91%), implicit (1,87%), paraphrase (1,25%), explicit (1,04%), reduction (0,83%), transposition (0,62%), generalization (0,20%), and substitution (0,20%). The impact of the application of those translation techniques, toward the translation quality is the overall quality score 2,98 with the average score of accuracy 2,97, acceptability 2,99, and readability 2,99. Abstract

This qualitative and descriptive research investigates the translation techniques utilized for restaurant food menus into English and the subsequent impact on translation quality, including accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This qualitative and descriptive research investigates the translation techniques utilized for restaurant food menus into English and the subsequent impact on translation quality, including accuracy, acceptability, and readability. The research data comprises the menu item names and their corresponding English translations, gathered from documents. Precisely explaining technical term abbreviations has been prioritized in the research. The data collection technique involves document analysis. It was discovered through this analysis that the description technique constitutes 66% of the total techniques used, with common equivalence at 23% and pure borrowing + common equivalence at 4.8%. The least frequent techniques were pure borrowing, variation borrowing, and explicitness + conventional equivalence, all at 0.9%. In general, the quality of translation for the restaurant's food menu is very good, with an average rating of 2.93, which is above the average for translation quality. Abstract

The process of converting something written or spoken into another language is known astranslation. The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify the techniques implemented totranslate batik terms in bilingual book of 50 Tahun Danar Hadi Solo and (2) to analyze how thetranslation techniques implemented affect the translation quality in terms of accuracy,acceptability, and readability. The researcher here applied descriptive qualitative method and thetype is library research to find out and examine batik terms. The technique of collecting data iscontent analysis and interview. The result of this research presented that: 1) there were 53 batikterms translated by applying one translation technique, 2) there were 54 batik terms translated byapplying two or more translation techniques, 3) there were 107 data are accurate, 66 data areacceptable and 87 data are readable. Next, the researcher discovered 111 data as batik termswhich contain cultural and Javanese meaning in the target language. The outcome of thisresearch also presented that Established Equivalent was the most used translation technique bythe translator since all data contain equivalence between the source and target languages.Keywords: Translation, Cultural Term, Qualitative Research
