Abstract

Kemampuan menerapkan strategi/teknik mengajar yang beragam pada materi ajar yang berbeda berperan penting untuk membantu menyelesaikan permasalahan kelas. Penerapan kegiatan lebih maksimal jika dilaksanakan secara berkesinambungan dan terintegrasi dalam kegiatan berbasis penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK). Selain untuk kepentingan penyelesaian masalah belajar, PTK juga sangat bermanfaat untuk pengembangan profesionalisme guru diluar konteks kelas seperti peningkatan jenjang karir dan pemenuhan persyaratan sertifikasi guru. Dengan beberapa pertimbangan diatas, tim ipteks bagi masyarakat (IbM) menawarkan solusi berupa pendampingan PTK dan strategi kegiatan kelas di MTs Negeri Muara Fajar dan SMP IT Al-Ittihad Pekanbaru. Kegiatan pendampingan secara teoritis telah selesai dilaksanakan dengan hasil yang memuaskan. Hal ini terlihat dari respon dan jumlah peserta (22 orang) yang berpartisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan pendampingan tersebut. Selain itu, umpan balik yang diberikan melalui isian angket menunjukkan bahwa guru memang membutuhkan pendampingan PTK dan merasakan manfaat penyampaian materi yang diberikan. Sebagai kesimpulan, Pendampingan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dan Strategi Kegiatan Kelas Untuk Meningkatkan Kompetensi Guru. MTs Negeri Muara Fajar Pekanbaru dan SMP IT Al-Ittihad Pekanbaru telah memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengembangan kompetensi akademik dan profesionalisme guru. Abstract

Practice teaching, indisputably, is one of the school activities distorted significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Practice teachers should adapt online learning to convey teaching and learning activities. This study aimed at finding out the internet device (wi-fi) available at schools in Pekanbaru municipality and learning media used by practicum teachers with the stable internet connectivity at schools in Pekanbaru municipality. There were 47 out of 51 English Education Students of Universitas Lancang Kuning involved in this research. They filled in 27 items of close-ended questions in the Likert scale. The findings revealed that most schools (83%) had wi-fi devices accessed by practicum teachers for teaching activities. With this device, practice teachers used more diverse applications (Google Classroom, Google Form, and Zoom video conference) more frequently (often), shown in the mean score of 4.0, to convey learning materials and tasks delivery. In schools with unstable internet connectivity, they chose the Whattsapp application to convey learning activities, including the delivery of the tasks. In conclusion, the availability of a wi-fi device with stable internet connectivity supports practice teachers in conducting online teaching activities during the pandemic. They can maximize the use of more diverse applications, namely Google Classroom, Google Form, and Zoom conference

Abstract

Abstrak: Pembelajaran abad 21 terintegrasi pada delapan aspek yang berorientasi pada penggunaaan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi, keahlian inovasi pembelajaran dan faktor-faktor pendukung seperti penerapan nilai sosial-budaya yang menjadi bagian dari pendidikan karakter. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengintegrasikan nilai pendidikan karakater pada butir-butir soal lembar kerja siswa (LKS) Bahasa Inggris yang digunakan oleh siswa di Sekolah Menengah Pertama Islam Terpadu (SMP IT) Al-Birru Pekanbaru. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pengembangan 3D Borg and Gall. Hasil penelitian ini memaparkan tiga tahapan pengembangan yang terdiri dari Define, Design, dan Develop.  Pada tahapan Define peneliti menemukan guru belum memodifikasi butir soal pada LKS yang sesuai dengan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter. Pada tahap kedua (Design), peneliti mendesain 70 butir pertanyaan pada 5 materi berbeda Pada tahap ini, dua orang ahli memberikan penilaian dan masukan tentang instruksi soal, penggunaan pilihan kata dan tata bahasa yang perlu direvisi. Pada tahap Development peneliti melakukan dua kali uji coba pada butir soal yang dikembangkan dan memperoleh hasil 35 butir pertanyaan dinyatakan valid. Selanjutnya peneliti melakukan test analysis menggunakan ANATES 4.09 dan memperoleh hasil 21 butir soal dinyatakan layak untuk digunakan dari total 35 butir soal yang diuji pada pilot study, dengan nilai koefisien 0,95. Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada tiga langkah pengembangan yang dilakukan yakni Define, Design dan Development dengan melibatkan dua orang ahli yang memberikan penilaian langkah pengembangan yang dilakukan sehingga butir-butir soal yang dikembangkan telah sesuai dengan pendidikan karakter dan layak untuk digunakan di SMP IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru.Abstract: The 21st century learning integrates eight frameworks orientating to the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Learning and Innovation Skills, and other support systems, including the implementation of socio-cultural values of Education Character. This study aimed at embedding values of Education Character on test items of English worksheets (LKS) used by students at Islamic Junior High School (SMP IT) Al-Birru Pekanbaru. This study employed Borg and Gall 3D development design. The results of this study showed three phases of development namely Define, Design, and Develop. At the Define phase, the researchers found that the teacher did not modify the questions on the LKS referring to the values of character education. In Design phase, the researchers designed 70 questions on 5 different materials. At this stage, two experts assessed and suggested to revise the instructions, the use of diction and grammar. At the Development phase, the researchers conducted two times pilot study on the items. At this stage, the researchers found that 35 questions were valid. Furthermore, the researchers conducted a test analysis using ANATES 4.09 and obtained the results that 21 out of the 35 items were reliable to be used, with a coefficient value of 0.95. From these results, it can be concluded that there are three development steps carried out namely Define, Design and Development involving two experts providing an assessment of the development steps taken so that the questions developed are in accordance with character education and are reliable for use in SMP IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Implementing strategies of content chosen on the internet is a core aspect of achieving goals in expanding reading material. This study aims to investigate what are the strategies used by students on extending reading web content. This research is in the form of a survey at the English Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lancang Kuning. There were 95 out of 126 EFL students selected randomly as participants from reading class. A set of Likert-scale questionnaires, adopted from Mokhtari and Reichard (2002), was used to collect the data. It consisted of 30 questions divided into three strategies: Global Reading Strategies, Problem Solving Strategies, and Support Reading Strategies. To answer the research questions, descriptive statistics (SPSS 16) were used to analyze EFL students’ strategies on extending reading web content questionnaires. The findings reveal that students' dominant strategy is the Problem Solving Strategies got from the mean score of 4.11 and a Standard Deviation of 0.98. It can be categorized into a high level. It means that the majority of students have a homogenous strategy for extending reading web content. The study also reveals that students believe that the content on the internet somehow is the right source of learning. Therefore this study highlighted that students have implemented a reading strategy to make them easier to understand a text's contents.

Abstract

ICT is used in the classroom context to help pre-service teacher or practicum teachers to know more learning materials beyond the textbooks. This study aims at investigating perceptions using ICT in the learning process during their pre-service teaching program. This survey research was taking EFL students at the English Education Department, Universitas Lancang Kuning, who conducted practice teaching or pre-service teaching at other schools in the province. Sixty-four students participated in this study. A set of questionnaires, with a Likert scale of 20 items and closed-ended five questions, was used to collect the data to ask their perception in ICT use during practice teaching at schools, the academic year 2019-2020. Some questionnaire items were adopted and developed from (Zare-ee 2011). The findings reveal that most pre-service teachers (90%) used ICT in the classroom. The analysis using statistical analysis (SPSS ver. 20), it was found that the mean score at 4.08 with a standard deviation value at 0.144 categorized High level. The score of standard deviation means that all of the respondents' answers are the same agree or homogenous. It means that pre-service teachers agree on the importance of using ICT in the classroom's learning process and acting as supportive tool to grasp meaningful English learning resources, especially in classroom settings.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan karena fenomena beberapa orang guru Bahasa Inggris di Rayon 3 Kabupaten Siak jarang menggunakan media teknologi informasi dan komunikasi (TIK) untuk kebutuhan mengajar dikelas. Guru-guru tersebut lebih fokus pada penggunaan buku pegangan/ referensi dan jarang memanfaatkan internet untuk mendapatkan materi ajar pendukung. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran kesiapan guru dalam penggunan aplikasi dasar TIK untuk proses pembelajaran. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 49 guru Bahasa Inggris dari berbagai jenjang, mulai dari Sekolah Dasar hingga Sekolah Menengah Atas, yang tergabung dalam kelompok guru Bahasa Inggris Rayon 3, dari tiga kecamatan yakni, Minas, Tualang dan Kandis, di Kabupaten Siak, Propinsi Riau. Metode penelitian ini adalah survei dan menggunakan desain cross-sectional, Instrumen penelitian menggunakan angket berisi 12 pertanyaan, yang tujuh diantaranya adalah pertanyaan inti tentang persepsi penguasaan aplikasi Office (word, excel, dan powerpoint) dan persepsi kemampuan penggunaan internet untuk browsing, email, social media, blog. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai mean berada pada angka 2.57. Untuk nilai modus dan nilai tengah (median) berada pada angka yang sama yakni 3.0. Untuk komponen nilai  variabilitas, ditemukan bahwa standar devisi relatif tinggi yakni  0.707, nilai varian 5, dan rentang nilai minimum dan maksimum  berada pada angka 1-4. Kesimpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan kesiapan guru didalam penggunaan TIK berada pada level “cukup” dan “baik.” Mengacu pada hasil temuan, guru-guru senior  perlu memperoleh pendampingan didalam penggunaan TIK agar mereka mampu dan siap didalam penggunan berbagai media TIK untuk menghadapi tantangan pembelajaran pada abad 21.

Abstract

cyberbullying phenomenon among EFL students interactive communication somehow an exciting topic to discuss. Seeing foreign language speakers interact and communicate with each other on the internet, this is an interesting linguistic study for review. This present library study tries to explore ten high recognized papers from contemporary studies regarding cyberbullying among students’ interactive communication. From these ten studies, this ongoing study constructs its perspective in seeing the cyberbullying context. This study uses a library study in qualitative approach and explores ten contemporary research about cyberbullying and came out with a result of present perspective and currently proposed terminology of cyberbullying among EFL bloggers.

Abstract

Research publications made by teachers, especially in Riau Province, are not comparable to provinces in Java Island. Therefore, this community service aimed at providing training on the basic concepts of collaborative classroom action research (CAR) and assistance in writing collaborative CAR from which the papers are expected to be published in accredited national journals. This activity was targeted to teachers at SMA Negeri 6 Tualang. The school was chosen due to its status as Sekolah Penggerak (literally translated as school mover). In addition, the teachers’ ability in carrying out collaborative CAR and writing for publication were not good. The training on basic concept of CAR included problem identification, problem formulation, choosing the right strategy, making observation sheets, and making field notes. To achieve the goal of publication, the teachers were assisted by students who were conducting teaching practice. They were active to consult with the team of community service at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lancang Kuning. The results obtained from this activity were an increase in the teacher's understanding of the basic concepts of CAR, how to identify problems, how to formulate problems, choose the right strategy, techniques for making observation sheets, and techniques for making field notes. Meanwhile, in the CAR activities, the teachers have accomplished the procedures well. More importantly, some of them have completed the initial section (Introduction) and are in the progress of making the other sections, namely Research Methods, Findings and Discussion, and Conclusion of their articles. Thus, it can be concluded that this CAR writing assistance activities have been carried out successfully.

Abstract

Madrasah Aliyah, which prioritizes the mastery of two foreign languages, both English and Arabic (a language that is closely related to Islamic law) requires the equivalence of knowledge in the two foreign languages, especially in Islamic terms. The Students must be able to communicate in English and be able to become preachers on a global scale. For this reason, the community service team from FKIP Universitas Lancang Kuning needs to carry out a workshop on the project of a bilingual dictionary of Islamic terms through project-based learning for students of MAN 1 Kampar. The team has conducted a workshop via zoom meeting for 70 minutes and continued with intensive discussions via WhatsApp for 6 weeks. The results show the participants can understand the steps of compiling a dictionary well and are expected to finish compiling the projected dictionary. Finally, the team concluded that the training for the project of the Islamic terms bilingual dictionary for students could provide them with knowledge, understanding and ability to compile and complete the dictionary.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the students' ability in applying Possessive pronoun in writing sentences and the problems encounter it. This mixed method study employs an explanatory design to reveals it. 53 students out of 105 students from1st semester EFL students from one reputable University in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, were invited to this study. These 53 students were selected using simple random sampling and enrolled for an essay test and interview to see the students' ability and explaining the problems. The data analysis using SPSS showed that the average score of students was 52.98. Meanwhile for the median is 48, the mode is 20. The score of Standard Deviation is 27.93, Variance is 780.25, and Range is 84. Z-Score was found 41.5%, which is means higher than average and 58.5% while, students' ability was indicated below the average. It showed that the students were low ability in applying possessive pronoun in writing sentences. The study also found the common problems, i.e., (1) students still mixed up between possessive pronoun and possessive adjectives. (2) students used the wrong pattern in using a possessive pronoun. (3) students did not understand clearly about a possessive pronoun, (4) experiencing difficulties in learning possessive pronoun.
