Abstract

In rural West Java, sheep are a mainstay livestock commodity to support livelihoods, because they function dually as a source of food and a source of income, and play a role in maintaining household food security. The research was carried out in Kertajati District, Majalengka Regency, aiming to analyze the food security status of sheep farmer households, and the variables that influence it. The survey method was used to collect respondents data from 126 households. Food consumption status and household food security were identified by interviews using the 3 x 24-hour food recall method. Variables that influence food security status are identified using a binary logistic regression model. The research results show that 37.30 percent of sheep farming households are food secure, 27.78 percent are food vulnerable, 23.81 percent are food questionable and 11.11 percent are food insecure. Sheep farming contributes 30.35 percent to total household income and can provide 65.24 percent of the budget to meet food needs. The number of sheep owned and the number of members in the farmer's household have a significant effect (p < 0.01) on food security status.  The existence of sheep farming plays a very important role in maintaining sustainable household food security. To reduce the negative impact of the deagrarianization process on household livelihoods, sheep farming must be strengthened, among other things, for sheep farming whose semi-intensive patterns are suitable for being transformed into intensive rearing patterns, accompanied by the introduction of feed technology for more efficient feed provision and feeding.

Abstract

Tanjungsari Animal Market plays an important role in livestock marketing, especially sheep.  The existence of blantik as the main actor mediating transactions between farmers and buyers creates uniqueness in the market. This study aims to analyze the activities of blantik, market actors' perceptions of blantik, and the impact of their presence on the proportion of sheep sales in Tanjungsari Animal Market. The research sample was taken from market players including farmers, traders, blantik, and consumers. Data were obtained through a survey of market participants and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test statistical test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the proportion of sales between transactions that used blantik and those that did not (p-value = 0.023). The average ranking of transactions with blantik was higher than transactions without blantik, indicating that the role of blantik contributed to improving the smoothness and efficiency of the sheep trade. The presence of blantik helps speed up transactions, expand market access, and improve price stability. However, there are different perceptions among market players regarding the impact of blantik on farmer welfare and supply chain efficiency. This study provides insights into optimizing the role of blantik in the livestock marketing system to improve farmer welfare without compromising consumer interests.

Abstract

Fluctuating beef prices in Bandung City have an impact on economic stability. Therefore, the government is expected to form various efforts as an anticipation in maintaining beef price stability. There are parameters that need to be considered in the formation of these efforts, namely by analyzing the periods that affect price movements based on the calculation of price volatility values from ARCH-GARCH modeling. The purpose of this study is to determine the model and volatility value of beef prices, and to analyze the periods that affect the volatility value of beef prices. This research was conducted using secondary time series data obtained through a sequential survey method of beef commodity price samples for the period January 2017 to December 2024 in Bandung City. The appropriate model in calculating beef price volatility is GARCH(1,1) with an ARCH coefficient value of 0.464415 or relatively small compared to the GARCH coefficient of 0.607130, so that the volatility value of beef prices tends to increase when the variance value in the previous period is large. The factors that influence the movement of beef prices in Bandung City include the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, the imposition of restrictions on community activities due to Covid-19, and disease outbreaks that infect beef cattle, especially foot and mouth disease (FMD). Considering that most of the consumers in Bandung are middle to upper class and tourists visiting the city, the local government needs to pay attention to the beef supply at the city level.

Abstract

The production function or response function is quantitatively described by a regression equation which explains the relationship between production results as a response variable and several inputs used in that production. The level coefficient in a power function production model can describe a measure of elasticity which is a percentage measure of the output response to a one percent change in input. This research was conducted to determine the response of milk production to input at the dairy farmer level. The research uses survey methods. A sample of 94 breeders was determined using the Multistage Random Sampling method. Research data was obtained through interviews with 4 groups of breeders. The analysis model used is multiple regression analysis and the F statistical test. The relationship between production and independent variables is modeled with the Cobb Douglas function. The research results show that the Cobb Douglas function equation model is . The F-test results show this model is significant (P<0.01) and reliable for explaining the influence between research variables. The coefficient of determination is 0.852, illustrating that the input variable has an effect of 85.2% on the amount of milk production. The two main inputs that have a significant effect are concentrate feed and cows with elasticity coefficients of 0.495 and 0.418 respectively. Dairy farming is in a constant state of returning to scale with a production elasticity value of 1 (one), this explains that every increase in all inputs proportionally, will increase the amount of milk production in the same proportion.
