Abstract

Antioxidant was a compound which possessed an activity as scavenger of free radicals. This study was aimed to examine the antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate fraction and isolated compound from stem barks of Bauhinia semibifida Roxb. Samples extracted by gradual maceration with n-hexane solvent, ethyl acetate and methanol respectively. Isolation was carried out using Vacuum Liquid Chromatrography and purification by column chromatography with Sephadex LH-20. Isolated compound (BS) obtained was ivory crystalline with melting point 163-1650C. The analysis of FT-IR spectra, UV spectra and the result of qualitative test by Liebermann Burchard reagent were is shown positive as a terpenoid. Antioxidant activity were evaluated by using DPPH method for ethyl acetate fraction and isolation compound in serial concentration of 1000; 500; 250; 125; 62,5; 31,25 ug/mL. The result found that ethyl acetate fraction (f4 and f11) of stem barks of Bauhinia semibifida showed antioxidant activity with IC50 value of >1000 ug/mL; 179 ug/mL. In conclusion, F11 from ethyl acetate extract from stem barks of Bauhinia semibifida Roxb. exhibited an activity as scavenger of free radicals from DPPH. Keywords: Antioxidant, Bauhinia semibifida Roxb, IC50, VLC

Abstract

Kepok banana (Musa balbisiana L.) natural starch easily undergoes syneresis due to starch retrogradation which can reduce the stability and viscosity of a suspension preparation, so it is necessary to modify starch to overcome this problem. One of the starch modification technologies is chemical modification with crosslinks. Utilization of kepok banana phosphate pregelatinated starch (Musa balbisiana L.) as a suspending agent in chloramphenicol palmitate suspension has been carried out and evaluated for its physicochemical properties and stability during storage. The method of making the suspension is the dispersion method. F1 used 5% kepok banana phosphate pregelatinated starch, F2 (7.5%) and F3 (10%). The results showed that the best formula was F3 with observations of organoleptic, viscosity and flow properties, degree of sedimentation, redispersibility, density, and pH which met the requirements during 4 weeks of storage.

Abstract

Tumbuhan marpuyan merupakan jenis tumbuhan liar banyak tersebar di wilayah Indonesia. Secara empiris, marpuyan dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat untuk berbagai pengobatan. Daun tumbuhan marpuyan berpotensi sebagai antioksidan. Hasil penelitian terdahulu melaporkan ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan mempunyai aktivitas tabir surya yang kuat. Formulasi sediaan topikal dalam bentuk gel lebih baik  karena memberikan efek nyaman dikulit. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memformula ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan dalam bentuk sediaan gel dan menentukan aktivitas antioksidan. Formulasi gel ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan 3 variasi konsentrasi yaitu 0,5% (FI), 1% (FII) dan 2% (FIII). Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode DPPH. Evaluasi gel meliputi pengamatan organoleptis, pH, homogenitas, uji stabilitas freeze and thaw, uji daya sebar, uji daya lekat dan uji iritasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan gel ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang sangat kuat pada FII (1%) dan FIII (2%). Hasil uji stabilitas menunjukkan gel gel ekstrak etanol daun marpuyan tidak stabil setelah disimpan 8 minggu dan tidak memenuhi persyaratan uji daya sebar.
