Abstract

Workload becomes a source of stress if the amount is not proportional to both physical ability and expertise and the time available to nurses. In addition, nurses are faced with the covid-19 pandemic situation which requires them to work longer and more carefully due to the infectious nature of the virus, especially in intensive care rooms. Patient care in the ICU during the pandemic requires nurses to go the extra mile because they are at the forefront of their response. This study will examine the relationship between workload and stress in nurses in the ICU room of Merauke Hospital. The method used is quantitative association with Cross Sectional approach. A total of 40 nurses were designated as research samples with total sampling techniques. The research measuring instrument used questionnaires using univariate data analysis using frequency distribution and bivariate data analysis using rho spearman. The results of the analysis of the relationship between the two variables using the Spearman rho correlations statistical test with the help of the SPSS program showed significant (p) = 0.000 smaller than (α) = 0.05. This means that there is a significant relationship between workload and nurse work stress in the ICU room of Merauke Hospital. With the Spearman correlation coefficient rho (r) = 0.964. This means that it has a strong level of relationship strength and a positive correlation coefficient value so that the relationship is unidirectional. There is a meaningful relationship between workload and nurse work stress in the ICU room of Merauke Hospital. The higher the workload, the higher the nurse's work stress level

Abstract

Neonates are newborns up to 28 days old who undergo organ system changes as a form of adaptation. The immaturity of these organ systems makes neonates vulnerable to health problems, which can lead to death. Causes of neonatal mortality include labor complications, premature birth, congenital abnormalities, sepsis, pneumonia, diarrhea, and tetanus. These are often related to the quality of delivery services, lack of optimal postnatal care in the first days of life, and limited community knowledge about proper newborn care. The aim of this community service program is to improve the knowledge and skills of health cadres, with outcome indicators including increased antenatal visits, complete basic immunization, improved newborn care services, and the absence of neonatal deaths. Activities include education on newborn care based on the “My Baby Care” application, demonstrations of app usage and newborn care procedures, and distribution of educational tools and materials. The “My Baby Care” application facilitates newborn care practices among health cadres and mothers. It contains videos and explanations on how to bathe and care for a baby’s skin, umbilical cord care, exclusive breastfeeding, proper breastfeeding techniques, and immunization. This application supports improved maternal and child health outcomes.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a growing global health issue, both in terms of its prevalence and the impact of its complications. Controlling blood sugar levels is a key component in preventing DM complications. However, managing blood sugar remains challenging, primarily due to a lack of patient knowledge and skills in self-management. Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) is an educational approach designed to enhance patients' ability to independently manage their condition. This study aims to analyze the effect of DSME on blood sugar control in DM patients at Merauke Regional General Hospital. A pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach without a control group was used. The sample consisted of 21 DM patients selected using probability sampling techniques. The intervention involved DSME delivered over four educational sessions, covering topics such as the concept of DM, dietary regulation, physical activity, and blood sugar monitoring. Blood sugar levels were measured before and after the intervention using a portable glucose meter. Data analysis was performed using repeated measures ANOVA. The average blood sugar levels of the patients decreased from 229 mg/dL before the intervention to 175 mg/dL at the first follow-up and 177 mg/dL at the second follow-up after the DSME intervention. The analysis showed a significant effect of DSME on reducing blood sugar levels (p < 0.05). DSME proved effective in improving blood sugar control in DM patients through structured education that supports self-care. This program also helps patients understand the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and adhering to therapy. Continuous implementation of DSME is recommended to improve the quality of care for DM patients and reduce the risk of long-term complications.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus remain major public health burdens in remote communities. Samkai Village, Merauke Regency, faces limited access to active health screening, resulting in many undetected cases. This community service aimed to optimize the health status of the Payum community through integrated TB screening and early detection of NCDs. A one-stop community-based health post was implemented, combining sputum smear examination, blood pressure measurement, blood glucose and cholesterol testing, health education, and an active referral system. The activity was conducted in November 2025 involving 65 participants. Of the 25 adequate sputum samples examined, 12 participants (18.5% of total participants) were smear-positive for TB. In addition, 30 participants (46.2%) were identified with hypertension and 3 (4.6%) with dyslipidemia. A total of 45 participants were referred to the primary health center for further management. This program demonstrates that an integrated community-based screening approach is effective in uncovering hidden disease burden and linking communities with formal health services.
