Abstract

This study aims to empirically analyze the effect of financial application usage and self-control on the financial literacy of students at Muhammadiyah University Palopo. The main objective of this study is to determine the extent to which the use of financial technology (financial applications) and students' level of self-control contribute to improving personal financial management skills. The approach used is a quantitative method with a survey technique. The research population consisted of 180 active fifth-semester students, and 64 respondents were selected as samples using probability sampling with the simple random sampling method. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression with the help of SPSS version 25. The results showed that both the use of financial applications and self-control had a significant effect on students' financial literacy, both partially and simultaneously. The self-control variable had a more dominant influence than the use of financial applications, with a joint contribution value (R²) of 50.2%. These findings indicate that students' financial literacy is not only determined by their ability to utilize financial technology but also by internal factors such as their ability to control themselves in managing finances. The results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for educational institutions to strengthen digital-based financial education programs and the formation of students' financial character.

Abstract

This study examines the effects of financial literacy and lifestyle on financial behavior among Generation Z and tests whether Siri’ Culture functions as a cultural moderator. A quantitative correlational design was employed using data from 203 Generation Z respondents domiciled in Palopo City, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The respondents were selected from the defined Generation Z population and data were collected through a structured questionnaire measured on a five-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares with SmartPLS 4.0. The findings reveal that financial literacy has a significant positive effect on financial behavior, indicating that respondents with higher financial knowledge tend to demonstrate more responsible financial management practices. In contrast, lifestyle does not significantly influence financial behavior. Siri’ Culture also does not significantly affect financial behavior either directly or as a moderating variable in the relationships between financial literacy, lifestyle, and financial behavior. These findings indicate that financial literacy remains the strongest determinant of financial behavior in this sample, while the null results for Siri’ Culture suggest that indigenous cultural values may not automatically translate into measurable financial behavior effects unless activated through specific social, educational, or institutional mechanisms. This study contributes to behavioral finance by clarifying the boundary conditions for integrating indigenous cultural values into quantitative financial behavior models.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of TikTok lifestyle content exposure, financial inclusion, and self-control on the consumptive behavior of Gen Z in North Luwu Regency. Utilizing a quantitative approach with purposive sampling, data were collected via surveys from 100 respondents aged 17–28 and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 27. The results indicate that exposure to lifestyle content on TikTok has a positive and significant effect on consumptive behavior, whereas self-control has a significant negative effect. Financial inclusion was found to have no significant impact on consumption levels. These findings confirm that TikTok lifestyle content is the most dominant external factor driving consumptive behavior, while self-control acts as a critical internal moderator. This research underscores the importance of digital literacy and the strengthening of self-control to enable Gen Z to manage the influence of social media trends more wisely.
