Abstract

Nausea and vomiting occur in 60-80% of primigravida and 40-60% in multigravida. Hormonal changes in each pregnant woman will give a different response, so not all experience nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of giving Kajah (Cardamom Ginger) pudding on reducing the frequency of nausea and vomiting in first trimester pregnant women. This research method uses pre-experiment with pre test and post test group design. The sample of this study were 16 pregnant women TM I. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique. Data analysis using paired sample t-test statistics. The results showed that the frequency of nausea and vomiting of respondents before being given Kajah pudding (Cardamom Ginger) the majority was in the medium category of 10 pregnant women (62.6%). After being given Kajah (Cardamom Ginger) pudding, the frequency of nausea and vomiting was mostly in the mild category as many as 11 pregnant women (68.8%). Based on the paired t test, the sig value or P value is 0.000 which shows less than 0.05 (0.000 <0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of giving Kajah Pudding (Cardamom Ginger) on reducing the frequency of nausea and vomiting in first trimester pregnant women in the Medan Tuntungan Health Center Working Area in 2023.

Abstract

Nutritional problems among infants and toddlers remain a significant concern in Indonesia’s health development, particularly in areas with limited access to health information and services. This community service activity aimed to conduct anthropometric measurements as an early detection strategy for assessing the nutritional status of infants and toddlers, as well as to provide nutrition education for parents in Laucih Village, Medan Tuntungan District. The activity was carried out by lecturers and students of the Bachelor of Nutrition Study Program at the North Sumatra Institute of Health (INKESSUMUT) as part of the 2026 Community Service Program organized by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of INKESSUMUT. The implementation method involved measuring body weight, body height/length, and mid–upper arm circumference (MUAC) of 10 toddlers using WHO-standardized measuring instruments. The collected data were analyzed using the WHO Z-score reference to determine nutritional status. In addition to anthropometric assessment, nutrition education was provided to mothers of toddlers, focusing on the importance of balanced nutrition, appropriate feeding practices, and routine growth monitoring through Posyandu services. The results showed that among the 10 toddlers assessed, 60% had normal nutritional status, while 40% were classified as being at risk of stunting. Notably, one child within the stunting-risk group was also identified as having undernutrition. These findings indicate that, although the majority of toddlers exhibited normal nutritional status, a substantial proportion remains vulnerable to growth-related nutritional problems. This underscores the need for continuous and sustainable community service initiatives with a more integrated approach, including capacity building for community health cadres and the use of local data to support targeted nutrition intervention planning.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a nutritional problem that can reduce immune function, impair children’s cognitive and motor development, and increase the risk of pregnancy and childbirth complications. At Puskesmas Sibiru-biru, Deli Serdang Regency, a community service program aimed to improve mothers’ knowledge about anemia and its prevention by providing them with supplemental foods made from local ingredients, such as moringa leaf and banana cookies. A total of 30 mothers with children aged 1 to 5 years actively participated in counseling, discussions, and hands-on cookie-making activities. The results showed that participants’ knowledge and interest increased through instruction combined with practical exercises. Additionally, the cookies were well accepted as a nutritious alternative for supplementary food. By utilizing local foods, this program helps families prevent anemia.

Abstract

The increased nutritional requirements of adolescent girls are associated with rapid physical growth and development, along with lifestyle changes and eating behaviors that influence nutrient intake. Adolescence is a critical period that is highly susceptible to nutritional problems, particularly anemia. Data from Riskesdas 2018 indicate that the prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls in Indonesia reached 48.9%. This study sought to evaluate the effect of counseling disseminated via leaflet media on the knowledge of adolescent girls concerning blood supplement tablets at SMK Dharma Patra, Pangkalan Susu District, in 2024. The study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach, involving 79 female students in grade ten selected through stratified random sampling. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. The findings showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 54.05 (SD 8.810) prior to counseling to 87.59 (SD 7.065) after counseling, with a mean improvement of 33.54 points. The statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating that leaflet-based counseling had a significant effect on enhancing adolescent girls’ knowledge for anemia prevention. Therefore, the use of leaflet media is recommended for schools and local health centers as an effective tool in nutrition education programs.
