Abstract

In the digital era, technology-based marketing or digital marketing is a breath of fresh air for SMEs, the English Study Program conducted Community Service (PKM) in Cisontrol Village, Ciamis Regency, West Java, which was attended by 20 MSME participants. The purpose of this implementation is to open opportunities for MSMEs to transform into a major economic force. Social media has become the most accessible and utilized digital marketing platform for MSME development, allowing them to reach millions of potential consumers and promote products widely. Digital marketing, which combines interactive and integrated marketing, makes it easier for businesses to understand consumer needs and expand market reach without geographical boundaries. In addition, effective visual design in online marketing can increase consumer interest and trust in influencing purchasing decisions. However, in Cisontrol Village, Ciamis Regency, limited knowledge of marketing technology hinders the promotion of MSME products, especially in the culinary field. Therefore, training on digital promotion strategies and creative writing for wider promotional media is planned, while maintaining existing local values.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper discusses the use of Socratic questioning method (SQM) to enhance students’ critical thinking capability. The method used in this research was descriptive – the method that describes a given state of affairs as fully and carefully as possible (Fraenkel, 1990:11). Twelve students of English Department S-1 Program sitting in the 4th semester participate in this research. This SQM is applied in learning process for the subject of Academic Presentation. Data were gathered through the two instruments, classroom observation and closed-ended questionnaires. The questionnaire consisted of ten items divided into six parts: understanding of SQM, critical thinking capabilities, application of SQM, effectiveness of SQM, perception of learning using SQM, and effects on critical thinking capability The results of the study indicate that: 1) the questions posed by the students are in level of analysis, 2) the contents of the questions posed cover identifying, relating, analyzing, and making inferences of the topics under discussion, and 3) the benefits of using SQM include provoking deep analysis, promoting critical thinking, making the one being asked think hard, maintaining learning motivation, and making students feel confident during the discussion sessions. The implementation of the Socratic Questioning Method (SQM) in the "Academic Presentation" course at Widyatama University has led to positive changes in students' learning experiences. SQM encourages students to engage in thoughtful dialogue, ask meaningful questions, and think critically. The findings suggest that SQM can enhance students' critical thinking abilities, foster deep analysis, and improve confidence and motivation in academic discussions.Key Words: Socratic Questioning Method (SQM), critical thinking, learning process

Abstract

This research examines the use of illocutionary speech acts in the quarrelling scenes of the film "Ted 2," employing a pragmatic approach to analyze how characters communicate emotions and intentions during conflicts. Understanding speech acts in cinematic dialogue is crucial for comprehending character dynamics and narrative development. The research aims to identify the types and functions of illocutionary acts present in the film's argumentative exchanges. Using a qualitative descriptive methodology, the study analyzes transcripts of selected quarrelling scenes, focusing on verbal interactions and contextual cues. Data analysis follows Searle's classification of illocutionary acts: assertive, directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative. Findings reveal a predominance of assertive and expressive speech acts in the analyzed scenes, reflecting characters' tendencies to state facts and express emotions during conflicts. Directive acts are also significant, indicating attempts to influence others' behavior. The study concludes that the distribution and functions of illocutionary acts in "Ted 2" contribute to the portrayal of character relationships and conflict escalation. This analysis enhances our understanding of how language functions in conveying relational conflicts within cinematic narratives, offering insights into the pragmatic aspects of film dialogue.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to provide training on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to improve TOEFL scores among twelfth-grade students at SMAN 19 Bandung. The method employed in this program involved training and mentoring, which consisted of two main stages: the implementation stage (preparation and training) and the evaluation stage. During the preparation stage, the team coordinated with the school, developed training materials, and set up AI-based learning tools. In the implementation stage, students were trained to use various AI applications and platforms, such as interactive chatbots, automated grammar correction tools, and AI-driven TOEFL simulations. Through intensive mentoring, participants were encouraged to practice their reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills with the assistance of AI technologies. The evaluation results indicated that students gained significant knowledge of TOEFL learning strategies as well as the ability to effectively utilize AI to enhance their English proficiency. Furthermore, the program fostered greater motivation and self-confidence among students in preparing for the actual TOEFL test. Therefore, this community service initiative is expected to make a meaningful contribution to improving the quality of English language education at the high school level.
