The study is based on the theories of Batistella (2005) and Raymond D. Liedlich (1973). Using a qualitative descriptive method, the data was sourced from the Laugh Planet YouTube Channel. The findings reveal three types of taboo words: obscenity, epithet, and profanity. Specifically, there were 3 instances of obscenity (1.7%), 1 epithet (5%), and 1 profanity (5%).  Additionally, four functions of taboo words were identified: creating attention, endearment, discredit, and providing catharsis. The analysis found 2 instances of creating attention (2.5%), 1 of endearment (5%), 1 of discredit (5%), and 1 of providing catharsis (5%). Among these, obscenity was the most frequently used type of taboo word, while creating attention emerged as the most common function. The study underscores the prevalence and diverse roles of taboo language in comedic performances, highlighting how such words are strategically employed to engage audiences, express affection, criticize, and release emotions. Chris Rock's skillful use of taboo language not only enhances his comedic impact but also reflects broader linguistic and social dynamics. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the nuanced ways in which comedians use taboo words to connect with their audiences and convey complex messages, ultimately enriching the discourse on language and humor in contemporary media.

In addition, effective visual design in online marketing can increase consumer interest and trust in influencing purchasing decisions. However, in Cisontrol Village, Ciamis Regency, limited knowledge of marketing technology hinders the promotion of MSME products, especially in the culinary field. Therefore, training on digital promotion strategies and creative writing for wider promotional media is planned, while maintaining existing local values.

Abstract

This article purposed to: (1) identify and analyze types of synonyms based on Palmer's theory (Alexander, 2018) and (2) examine the meaning relationships contained in each type of synonym by referring to Leech's theory (Feist, 2022). This research employs a qualitative descriptive method through several stages, including watching films and reading dialogue scripts from the Harry Potter series, grouping data according to types of synonyms, analyzing data based on identified problems, and drawing conclusions from the results of the analysis. The findings reveal five types of synonyms with the following distribution: 37.2% overlapping synonyms, 25.7% stylistic synonyms, 25.7% synonyms with emotive or evaluative meaning, 5.7% collocation synonyms, and 5.7% dialect synonyms. Furthermore, based on meaning analysis, the data indicates 40% conceptual meaning, 31.6% affective meaning, 8.5% reflective meaning, 5.7% social meaning, 5.7% collocative meaning, 5.7% thematic meaning, and 2.8% connotative meaning. This study also highlights the cultural context in which these synonymous variations emerge, emphasizing how language choices in the Harry Potter series reflect British cultural nuances, social hierarchy, and magical world-building. The dialogue in the films not only serves a narrative function but also conveys deeper cultural meanings through dialectal variations, stylistic shifts, and emotive expressions, further enriching the linguistic and thematic dimensions of the story.

Abstract

This study explored the use of speech acts in Lana Del Rey’s album Ultraviolence, with a particular focus on how the themes of glamour, violence, and vulnerability are conveyed through the album’s lyrics. By using speech act theory and pragmatics, the research analyzed five types of speech acts; which were assertive, expressive, directive, commissive, and declarative; across selected songs. The findings reveal that assertive speech acts dominate, accounting for approximately 40% of the total instances, and they primarily assert the complex emotional dynamics in relationships, especially concerning violence and vulnerability. Expressive speech acts resulted 25%, reflecting emotional openness and fragility. Directive acts, representing about 15%, critique societal expectations, while commissive speech acts contributed 10%, expressing commitment and submission. Declarative speech acts, which focus on identity and glamour, comprise the remaining 10%. Through these speech acts, Del Rey critiques traditional ideals of romance and femininity, blending personal vulnerability with a glamorous yet dark portrayal of relationships. This research underscores the power of song lyrics as a medium for linguistic and cultural expression, offering a deeper understanding of how language can construct, challenge, and reflect societal norms and emotional experiences.
