Abstract

Every teacher has their own unique experiences and stories in helping their students to achieve their best in studying. Those experiences would be very beneficial if they can share those best practices to other teachers and educational practitioners. Unfortunately, it is hindered for teachers do not write those good practices in a best practice article because of particular reasons, including their lack of skill for writing such article. This paper aims to report a community service in form of a training on writing a manuscript attended by the English local teacher forum coming from various cities in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Eighteen participants were participated in this one-month training. The program was divided into two types of activities, namely training and mentoring. The training was conducted in one day aimed to introduce and to analyse samples of good articles, which were accepted in reputable international journals, so the participants could learn the characteristics and the structure of the good articles. Meanwhile, the mentoring was carried out for one month in form of weekly virtual mentoring to guide the participants write their articles step-by-step. Questionnaire and interview were utilized to record the data regarding the evaluation of the program. The findings show that the teachers got benefit from this mentoring. They understand what a best practice article is and how to write it. In the end of the program, two out of five teams successfully completed the mentoring and published their article in a national journal. Some barriers during the training and mentoring are also discussed in this article.

Abstract

The study is aimed at finding the students’ perception on the using of Google Classroom for writing skill at vocational high school. This research generally answered the question: What are student’s perception on the using of Google Classroom for writing skill? The data was collected through interviews. There were 5 students of tenth grade as the participant. This research explored the students’ perception which came from the students’ experiences during COVID-19 pandemic. It is descriptive research by using qualitative technique. The result showed varied answers yet so much positive after all. Keywords: Perception; Google Classroom; Writing skill

Abstract

The development of technology also gives positive effect for education. One of them is the using of google form in education. Google form is one of online application that is used to collect the data of questionnaires. Nowadays, we can use it in education sector. That is for digital evaluation at school. The using of google form for digital evaluation is so effective. That’s why this community service gives training of the google form using for digital evaluation for Senior High School English Teacher Association, Hulu Sungai Utara, South Kalimantan. So they can use this application for English evaluation in their class. Some teachers who as the volunteer for this community service were interested to learn how to use this application. They practiced a lot during the training and at last they understand how to apply it for digital evaluation in their class. So next their English evaluation becomes English digital evaluation by using google form.

Abstract

Over time, learning limitations become increasingly visible during the COVID-19 outbreak with indicators such as students starting to become less enthusiastic about learning, feeling a lack of interaction, and various technical problems such as internet network fluctuations. Some of these problems lead to a decrease in the quality of learning. This community service aims to provide assistance to MGMP English High School teachers in South Kalimantan regarding the implementation of multimodal-based instruction. There were 28 teachers who attended the event. The methods used were lectures, simulations and discussions via Zoom and assignments on Open Learning. The result of this community service is that teachers gain inspiration in online learning and can increase student motivation. The problem faced by teachers is that teachers need a lot of time to prepare material and an unstable internet connection.

Abstract

Media pembelajaran sebagai salah satu aspek dalam perencanaan pembelajaran harus disiapkan guru dengan optimal sehingga dapat menunjang proses pembelajaran di dalam kelas. Dewasa ini banyak sekali media pembelajaran yang berbasis teknologi, salah satunya Wordwall. Menyadari betapa penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis teknologi di kelas, maka tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat dari Prodi S1 Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UM Banjarmasin melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yaitu dengan melakukan pelatihan pembuatan media pembelajaran interaktif wordwall yang diikuti oleh 35 Guru dari MGMP Bahasa Inggris dan Informatika Tingkat SMA Barito Kuala. Pada kegiatan tersebut digunakan metode holistik kolaboratif dengan mengintegrasikan teori dan praktik secara komprehensif. Tujuan dari pelatihan tersebut untuk memberikan wawasan dan konsep terkait penggunaan Wordwall serta ilustrasi langkah-langkah implementatifnya dalam proses pembelajaran. Hasil yang dicapai adalah para peserta memahami dan dapat membuat materi pembelajaran dengan mengoptimalisasikan fitur-fitur yang ada di wordwall sehingga mereka memiliki kepercayaan diri dan mempunyai pengalaman dalam mengintegrasikan penggunaan media teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran di dalam kelas. Sebagai media pembelajaran interaktif, maka optimalisasi penggunaan wordwall perlu dikembangkan sehingga dapat memberikan manfaat yang lebih optimal bagi pengembangan kompetensi pedagogi guru dan membantu siswa dalam proses pembelajaran di dalam kelas.
