Abstract

Abstract: The pain, TENS, Myofascial Release. The research objective was to determine the effect of administration of TENS and Myofascial Release to decline Mechanical Neck Pain. This study design is one group of pre and post-test design. Subjects and treatment are 20 people who suffer from neck pain mechanic who met the study criteria given TENS and myofascial release treatment for 2 weeks. Points clinical research "Fitasoma" Colomadu, Karanganyar, Central Java. The results of the significance of pain before and after treatment have a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05), which means that there is an influence of TENS and Myofascial Release to the reduction of mechanical neck pain. TENS and Myofascial Release have the effect of reducing pain in patients with mechanical neck pain

Abstract

Abstract

Background: In sport the muscle fiber composition surely affect athlete performances, selective training technic and using advance technology may improve and set a new standards for athlete optimal performances, technology innovation such as computer simulator has been use to generate realistic match simulation in several sport, but the technology is not cheap that many sport clubs can afford, so biofeedback may become innovation to improve athletes performance by monitoring muscle activation to achieve selective muscle contraction in muscle strengthening programs. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate whether auditory feedback as biofeedback can improve muscle activation in a strengthening program. Method: Biofeedback with an auditory feedback electrode placed on the pectoralis muscle pars sternum of 25 subjects in the experimental Group, while they performed a strengthening program and 25 subjects only performed the strengthening program using biofeedback without auditory feedback as controls. The strengthening program was taken for 2 sessions a week for 4 weeks. Result: The collected data showed a mean difference value for the experimental Group was 34.1 ± 14.23 µV and for the control Group was 4.24 ± 12.61 µV, only the experimental Group had a signification value p<0.05. Conclusion: Biofeedback combined with a muscle-strengthening program results in greater muscle activation.

Abstract

Background: Knee osteoarthritis causes a decrease in quadriceps muscle strength and pain during activities. Strengthening the quadriceps muscles through exercise effectively reduces pain and improves the quality of life of patients. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of open kinetic chain (OKC) and isometric exercises on pain reduction in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental two-group pre- and post-test design with 40 patients with knee osteoarthritis. Patients were randomly divided into two groups of 20 people. Group I performed OKC exercises and group II performed isometric exercises for 4 weeks (3 sessions/week). Pain was measured using the valid and reliable Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test for pre- and post-comparisons within each group and the Mann-Whitney test for differences between groups.  Results: OKC and isometric exercises significantly reduced pain in patients. The mean VAS reduction in the OKC group was 2.10 ± 0.60, while in the isometric group it was 1.20 ± 0.51. The difference in pain reduction between groups was significant (p < 0.001). Conclusion: OKC exercise was more effective in reducing knee osteoarthritis pain than isometric exercise. It is recommended that OKC exercise be used as the primary intervention in knee osteoarthritis physiotherapy rehabilitation for optimal results. Further studies with larger samples and longer durations are needed.
