Abstract

Abstract

NSSI is an act of injury carried out intentionally and directly on body tissues without suicidal intent. Students have a vulnerability to doing this. An anonymous self-report survey was completed by 221 college students. Measurement using the Self Compassion Scale (α = 0.910) Well-being was measured using the Riff's Psychological Well-Being Scale (RPWB) and NSSI using ISAS (α = 0.910). Participants reported having injured themselves in 50% (n=107). The first onset of NSSI averaged 14.13 years. Participants aged 21-22 reported the highest incidence of self-harm in the past year (56%). The incidence in women is higher (80%). Women said more hair pulling (59%) while men hit themselves. (70%). Low self-compassion and psychological well-being significantly increase the possibility of NSSI in students. For this reason, protection factors need to be developed for students to empower themselves to prevent and avoid delays that harm them.

Abstract

Submission of well-structured job application letters is an essential aspect of business and government recruitment processes. However, due to difficulties with grammar and mechanics, many students, fresh graduates included, fail to produce high-quality job applications. While human reviewers typically give feedback to enhance these skills, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought about automated feedback systems. The research compared the performance of two artificial intelligence models, Gemini and ChatGPT, and human experts in assessing job application letters. The study compared feedback in six writing features"”subject-verb agreement, parallelism, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and sentence variety"”of 10 job application letters composed by final-year high school students. Results indicated that ChatGPT and Gemini performed better than human experts in most metrics. These findings add to the discussion of using AI to improve application letter quality and offer implications regarding the potential of AI-assisted writing feedback. Integrating such tools into writing instruction can offer consistent, real-time feedback, thereby supporting skill development and improving students' employability prospects. The study contributes to the growing field of AI in education by highlighting the practical benefits and potential limitations of AI-generated feedback in high-stakes writing tasks such as job applicationsHow to cite this paper: Noerjaman, L. Abstract

UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has implemented policies related to simplifying organizational structures by Regulation Manteri Utilization State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform number 25 of 2021 concerning Simplification of Organizational Structures in Institutions. According to Charles O Jones, the success of policy implementation can be seen from 3 things, namely: (1) Organization, (2) Interpretation, and (3) Application. From the results of existing secondary data analysis, the implementation of policies related to simplifying the organizational structure has been carried out well where, in terms of organization, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah has made structural adjustments by eliminating echelon III and IV administrative positions, transferring them to functional positions. Apart from that, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has also implemented a working team as a result of the simplification of the structure, where the working team was formed to achieve certain activity targets. In terms of interpretation, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has also implemented strategic steps in implementing the structure simplification policy, namely: (1) mapping of organizational units, (2) submitting mapping results to leadership and (3) verification and validation of mapping. If the implementation of the structure simplification policy was carried out after the Regulation of the Minister of Religion was issued, there was a change in the organizational structure which was followed by the elimination of echelon III and IV administrative officials into functional positions and the formation of work teams to support the achievement of organizational performance. In its implementation, there are still obstacles where the functional position groups resulting from the equalization have not been able to carry out their functions optimally because they require time to adjust to the duties and functions of their new positions and the competency standards that should be possessed by functional officials have not been met. Increasing competency for functional officials as a result of equalization should be a common concern to improve organizational performance.

Abstract

Abstract. Translation of quotes attributed to great personalities is a niche and rather less researched area of study within the discipline of translation studies. The quotations are often culture-bound and context-dependent and present some difficulties to translators due to the cultural and historical context of their creators. This paper has a two-fold purpose: (1) to explore the translation strategies employed by student translators in rendering culturally- and contextually-loaded quotations, and (2) to identify patterns in the application of these strategies based on the quotes’ textual features—such as sentence length, word order, and lexical particularities. In line with established translation research methodologies, this research adopts a corpus-driven analysis with interpretive elements. Strategies were identified and analyzed using a robust coding framework derived from established translation theories (e.g., Vinay, 1995; Molina, 2002; Abu-Ssaydeh, 2004) and specific corpus analysis tools like Wordsmith Tools. Comparison of 50 selected quotations—mostly chosen for their culture-bound content—exemplifies the use of an array of translation strategies, with paraphrasing and explicitation being the most frequently employed. Paraphrasing, as detailed in this paper, covers rewording involving syntactic and semantic adjustments. It occurred 18 times as a co-concomitant and 7 times singly. On some occasions, these strategies were used even when there were formal or idiomatic equivalents available in the target language. This indicates that student translators need more cultural sensitivity and strategic competence development, possibly through experiential hands-on training and longer training modules. Keywords: culture-bound quotations, corpus-based analysis, paraphrasing, student translators, translation strategies
