Abstract

The term cross cultural understanding had long been known by many people all over the world, but only a few of them knows about the influence of Islamic values along with the cross cultural understanding theme in an event called English Camp Program 2019. Due to that reason, the researcher is interested in digging more about how the Islamic values of Madurese college students affect their understanding about cultural differences of English-speaking countries in English Camp Program. In general, this research will use qualitative descriptive method because the main goal is to describe about those college students’ understanding on cultural differences in relation with Islamic values on students’ background. The result of this research shows that those Madurese college students are still holding on their Islamic values which are coming from their religious background when it comes to understand about cultural differences happened in certain English-speaking countries during the English Camp Program. Also, their Islamic values are not blocking or limiting their openess about receiving some cultural differences happened all over the world.

Abstract

This counseling activity is based on the background of the situation that there is still a lack of knowledge of teachers and parents about the concepts and knowledge of smart parenting. Therefore, counseling is carried out for seven months with the main goal so that the concept of smart parenting to produce a smart and resilient future generation can be planned from an early age. This counseling uses observation and training methods for Tunas Bangsa teachers and parents. The result of this activity counseling in the RW 06 Rewwin environment was an increase in teachers' and parents' understanding of what smart parenting is. In addition, the Tunas Bangsa students also began to become more open to their parents. For example, many students already have intense communication with their parents when delivering or when picking up has never been done before. So, it can be seen that there are very significant results both in relation to the development of teachers’and parents' understanding of smart parenting and also in direct relation to the students.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to know the impact of Covid 19 to travel desire of those Indonesian travelers to travel abroad. Research methods: This study used mix methods to give details on the data which was produced by the media related to this corona virus or more recently popular as Covid 19. The data has been gathered in the form of numbers and tables about the spread of Covid 19 over the world, about the victims infected by this virus over the last three months, as well as about the direct impact on the tourism sector for Indonesian travelers to travel abroad. Then, the data has explained descriptively in order to get deeper understanding about Covid 19 facts and travel impact towards Indonesian travelers. Results and discussions: The result showed that the spreading has happened almost in the entire world with most infected area is around Asia and Europe with the total case of 245,612. The death victims are 10,048 people and the survivors are 88,437 people. The data statistics are also showed for about 78% Indonesian travelers chose to cancel and reschedule their travel plans to abroad as well as 22% of them still have no idea what to do with their future trip. Conclusion: It can be concluded that Covid 19 has hit the tourism sector in Indonesia

Abstract

Fandom had found anywhere in the world. What makes this research is different from others that the 1990s boy band Westlife has proved that even after 20 years of career and decided to comeback in 2019, their fans has still been excited on watching their shows. Due to that reason, the researcher is interested in digging more about how fandom and cyber fandom work through Westlife’s twenty tour 2019 as well as about the fandom context of Westlifers. In general, this research will use qualitative descriptive method by using purposive sampling technique. The result shows that the role of fandom and cyber fandom ‘Westlife Indonesia’ is quite important towards all Westlifers because this fan base provided everything they need to get closer to their idols and other fans. Also, there are four basic fandom contexts appeared in Westlifers: (1) virtual communication, (2) creativity, (3) knowledge or information, and (4) civil strength or organization.

Abstract

Recently, it can be seen that there are numerous ways when it comes to go around the world or when it comes to search for entertainment. Internet has provided everything we need just for a few clicks. This article will discuss about the new phenomenon in the entertainment industry called ‘Traveloka Xperience’. By using this feature, the users can easily search for everything related to entertainment facility they want in just one application such as traveling, eating, watching movies, going to spa, and many others. Qualitative descriptive approach will be used to help finding how the interaction built between the users and the text, as well as about the influence of Traveloka Xperience towards the fast development of entertainment industry business and how their users utilize this feature to fulfill their needs in searching for alternative entertainment facility. The result shows that there are still various entertainment business chances, especially some sort of start-up business. The users of Traveloka Xperience have also considered that these kinds of tertiary experiences are becoming something they need the most.

Abstract

Bangtan Sonyeondan or popularly known as BTS is a South Korean phenomenal group. The massive popularity of BTS all over the world cannot be separated from the magic role of their leader, Kim Nam Joon. This research tried to explore Kim Nam Joon’s role in regard to BTS's global popularity. This research used a qualitative descriptive method by using Khan, Nawaz & Khan’s leadership theories and styles as well as used Brown’s audience involvement approach to analyze the data. The result showed that there are four major reasons for Kim Nam Joon’s influence over BTS's success: Kim Nam Joon marked the beginning of BTS, Kim Nam Joon’s compassion and dedication, Kim Nam Joon’s powerful speech, and Kim Nam Joon’s leadership role towards teamwork. Moreover, there was also the fact that several non-BTS American fans tend to become ARMY after they knew about Kim Nam Joon’s leadership role. This is interesting because not all BTS’s fans become ARMY from enjoying BTS songs and performances.

Abstract

Writing ability was one of crucial ability in learning languages including English. According to Curriculum of English Subject, the students were expected to be able in composing simple writing in accordance with the chapter they were learning. In fact, most of the students faced difficulties in creating English writing because the students were surrounded by several issues. Based on that case, the researcher interested to develop a learning media which is suitable with current development so that the students’ writing ability increased. The researcher developed comic strips which was made through Canva Pro. The aim of this research was to find out how was the implementation of DIY Comic Strips and the students’ feelings which conducted in VIII B class, SMPN 4 Bangkalan. The approach used to collect the needed data was Qualitative Approach. The result in this research were the students felt much easier in writing and understanding material, became motivated because the media was new, and absorbed new vocabularies. As conclusion DIY Comic Strips was a suitable learning media to be implemented in the classroom.

Abstract

This research explored the effectiveness of using collaborative writing strategy for writing ability of the students and it used quasi experimental for the method. This study emplyed two groups namely experimental group and the control group. Both classes received different treatment. For the experimental group, the students were taught by using collaborative strategy while the control were not. The population were 10th grade students of MA Al-Ibrohimy. The data collection technique used the covariance analysis (ANCOVA). Results indicated that the collaborative writing approach appears to be more effective than traditional method in teaching literacy. However, both the study and control groups demonstrated a statistically significant difference in writing skills when tested in post-test words. The test data were analyzed using covariance analysis (ANCOVA). Results indicated that the collaborative writing approach appears to be more effective than traditional method in teaching literacy. Abstract

Language is a combination of several words that have rules in compiling or combining some words into a whole meaning. The relationship between language and society can be called as a sociolinguistics. One of them is code-mixing and code-switching usage. This reserach uses a qualitative research to gets some information about the what, how, when and where of an event occurs or phenomenom. Besides that, the objectives of the research are: (1) to describe the form of code-mixing usage in teaching and learning process on the Seventh semester of the English Department, and (2) to describe the form of code-switching usage in teaching and learning process on the Seventh semester of the English Department.The findings showed that the students used code-mixing and code-switching usage in their presentation process. Firstly, they used code-mixing which consists of 116 forms of the word, 72 forms of the phrase and 1 form of the clause. In the forms of word often used by the students are 16 nouns, 16 adverbs, 12 adjectives, and 12 verbs. Besides that, there are 16 expressions, 12 affixes, and 32 question words usage also in their presentation process. Secondly, they used code-switching which consists of 4 intra-sentential switching and 895 inter-sentential switching. Finally, it can be concluded that in the code-mixing usage, the students are more likely to use the form of the word, while the code-switching usage, they are more likely to use inter-sentential switching.

Abstract

Nowadays, traveling has been transformed drastically into a-must-do activity to ensure that they can keep update on what’s trending now. Today there are a whole bunch of advertisements which attract people to go traveling the world. And this phenomenon is strengthen with the abundance amount of online traveling applications like Traveloka, PegiPegi, Tiket.com, Agoda, Airy, AirBnb, and many more lists which make traveling become much more practice and pretty easier. Based on those facts, this research aims to explore more about how big the influence of the advertisements and online traveling applications will affect people to go traveling as well as to examine about about the ways traveling influences people’s perspective in seeing the world. This research used ethnomethodology as the research design since it discusses much about the traveling phenomenon in relation with people’s perspective and response in seeing the world outside. The data were gathered through online questionnaire in the Facebook group of ‘Backpacker Dunia’ which consist of twenty submitted questionnaires. Personal data analysis (through questionnaire and interviews) was performed to test whether the influence of advertisements and online traveling applications will affect people to go traveling and whether traveling influences people’s perspective in seeing the world or not. The data analysis were conducted by using qualitative descriptive method. The results revealed that in the end they realized that traveling is always the best way to learn about everything, including about the culture and the ways people seeing the world. In short, there will always be the symbol (relationship between words), the referent (something or the thing it describes), and the meaning (the thought which is related to the word and the thing).
