Abstract

Podcasts is one of the technologies that can be used as an effective media to teach students’ listening skill, especially extensive listening. This research aims to know the effectiveness of using podcasts application in teaching extensive listening. The method in this study used quantitative research. The design of this research was pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. It involved the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Bangkalan as the subject of the research. In this research, the data were obtained toward the results of listening tests. The research was started by giving pre-test, treatments, and post-test to experimental group. The data of the tests were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-Test. The results showed the significant difference between pre-test and post-test, It indicate that the value of significance (Sig. 2-tailed) is 0.002 lower than 0.05. The results of the statistical hypothesis testing showed that the P-value lower than α (0.002<0.05), it means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded that podcasts application is effective and brilliant media that can be suggested to be used on teaching listening.

Abstract

Writing is a powerful multipurpose tool that helps us discover and  explore more fully what we are thinking so that we learn as well as express our feelings and thoughts. One of reason that students lazy to written something because the methods are used by their teacher.  Most of them still used direct learning method (extracurricular learning), the students were bored and they are did not enjoy when teaching learning process. So, that is why, in this study the writers try to use snowball throwing method to help students in learning descriptive writing. The data collection methods which used in this study are observation checklist and questionnaire checklist. Observation used to find out the implementation snowball throwing on students writing in descriptive text. The questionnaire was used to know the students’ responses after being taught descriptive text by using snowball throwing method. This study reveals that the highest aspect score of observation checklist in first observation is less, but in the second meeting, the writers found that highest aspect score of observation was good. Based on data questionnaire checklist, the writers found that the highest students’ responses were good. Based on this result data resource above, the writers concluded that the students could master writing after they were taught using snowball throwing in writing descriptive text. Finally, the writers suggested that the students had to practice their writing skill in many times. Besides, teacher had to have an interesting method in teaching writing descriptive text.

Abstract

Bilingualism is used as a cover term for multilingualism, too – speaking more than two languages. Some researchers use the term plurilingualism for speaking more than two languages. few bilinguals are as proficient in any second language as they are in their first language. This research aims to determine the implication of bilingualism in EFL classroom. Descriptive qualitative is used as a research approach and its application uses phenomenology methods. The findings showed that the implication of bilingualism to students’ speaking. The implication is about interact and apply the lecturer’ utterance. It can be said this implication related to the students’ understanding of the word meaning in speaking. Second implication from the observation data is about students’ comprehension in a certain word, such as compounding. The lecturer used bilingualism to explain the meaning of the word. By using Bahasa, the students were easier to understand the lecturer statement. In this case, the students knew what the lecturer’ uttered and finally they could know the meaning of the word. Keywords: bilingualism; implication; EFL classroom; teaching and learning

Abstract

An error anaysis has an important role to reveal what kinds of error the student do most, to know the causes of the error and how the student can learn from their mistakes in writing by themselves. Writing Ability always have main concern when the student created written text. Writing ability had been good result if the grammar was perfect. The pupose of this study is To know the error when the student make in simple past tense in teaching writing Recount Text At Eight Grade In SMP Al-Baisuny. The research design that was used in this study is qualitative research. The object of this study was the eight grade students of SMP AL-Baisuny which consists of 25 students In this research, the instruments used was: Student’s Worksheet. The result of the analysis shows that: (1) the errors in recount writing made by the eight grade students of SMP Al-Baisuny are 82 occurrences of all errors. In term of each type errors, the errors of Overgeneralization 25 times, errors of Ignorance of Rules Restriction 22 times, errors of Incomplete Application of Rules 21 times, and errors of False Concept Hypothesis 14 times. Finally, it is hoped that the teacher would make use of those findings in their teaching learning process in order to minimize the students’ errors.

Abstract

 Abstrak  Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini merupakan kegiatan lanjutan dari program sebelumnya, dimana dilakukan pelatihan terkait penerapan teknologi dalam pembelajaran bahasa atau disingkat TELL (Technology in Language Learning). Seiring berkembangnya lembaga-lembaga kursus yang jumlahnya semakin banyak, terutama di wilayah Bangkalan. Banyak siswa-siswi mulai dari tingkat sekolah dasar sampai menengah atas mendaftar dan mengikuti program-program yang ditawarkan oleh lembaga kursus. Tren inilah yang menjadi dasar terpilihnya lembaga kursus sebagai tempat melakukan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Penerapan audiobook lit2go di lembaga kursus  Bahasa Inggris ini dilakukan oleh para tutor di lembaga kursus E-Home untuk membantu proses pembelajaran dengan memanfaatkan teknologi pembelajaran, yang nantinya diharapkan bisa meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah meningkatnya kemampuan pengajar Bahasa Inggris di lembaga kursus dalam menggunakan teknologi saat pembelajaran, dalam hal ini penggunaan audiobook lit2go.  Kata kunci: Audiobook Lit2go, Tell, Pembelajaran, Teknologi   Abstract    This community service activity is a continuation of the previous program, where training is carried out related to the application of technology in language learning called TELL (Technology in Language Learning). As the number of course institutions grows, especially in the Bangkalan region. Many students ranging from elementary to high school level register and participate in programs offered by institute courses. This trend is the basis for the selection of course institutions as a place to do community service. The application of lit2go audiobook at English language course institutions is carried out by tutors at E-Home course institutions to assist the learning process by utilizing learning technology, which in turn is expected to improve student learning outcomes. Abstract

Abstract. For English learners, there are important aspects to consider such as vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar to master their speaking skills. Speaking is used to express people’s ideas and feelings in daily life or to communicate with others both personal talks and transactional conversation.  The objective of the study is to figure out how the students of SMKN 2 Bangkalan can use the six English tenses in daily conversation. The research was done within two weeks starting from 22th April to 06th May 2019. Observation and interview were performed to collect the data. Observation was made to see what was going on in the class, focusing on the students’ conversation. On the other hand, Interview was carried out to know the students’ problems in using the correct tenses in conversation, and to find out how the students solve the problems. The observation shows that in using the six English tenses, the students likely found it hard to apply the correct tenses in the conversation with their friends and the teacher. The students tended to use one tense in all situations and the tense mostly used was the simple present one. From the interview, it is found that the students do not really understand what tenses are, either the meaning or the uses.Keywords: daily conversation, tenses, observation, interview, contexts of situationAbstrak. Bagi pembelajar Bahasa Ingggris, terdapat aspek penting seperti kosakata, pengucapan dan tatabahasa yang harus diperhatikan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggrisnya. Kemampuan berbicara khususnya digunakan untuk menyampaikann semua yang ada dalam benak kita seperti misalnya ide dan perasaan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, baik itu berupa perkataan pribadi atau pun percakapan transaksional. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana murid dapat menggunakan enam kala (tenses) dalam percakapan sehari-hari sesuai dengan kontek situasi, di SMKN 2 Bangkalan. Penelitian dilakukan selama 2 minggu dimulai tanggal 22 April s/d 06 Mei 2019. Penelitian dilakukan dengan 2 langkah seperti observasi dan wawancara. Observasi dilakukan untuk mengetahui yang terjadi dalam selama proses pembelajaran dan fokus pada cara murid bercakap. Wawancara dilakukan oleh peneliti untuk mengetahui permasalahan pada murid dalam menggunakan tenses yang benar dan bagaimana murid mengatasi masalah penggunaan kala yang benar tersebut. Dari hasil observasi dapat diketahui bahwa penggunaan enam kala dalam percakapan sehari-hari dari murid adalah buruk, mereka tidak bisa mengaplikasikan kala yang sesuai dalam percakapan, baik dengan teman dan guru. Mereka cenderung menggunakan satu kala dalam  percakapan dalam konteks situasi yang berbeda dan tense yang digunakan adalah Simple Present Tense.Kata kunci: percakapan, kala, observasi, wawancara, konteks situasi

Abstract

The advancement of technology provides education with various solutions to create new learning environments. Edmodo is a learning platform believed to offer a solution in the teaching of English, particularly for teaching writing. This research was aimed to investigate how Edmodo as a learning platform, in a blended learning setting, was implemented in teaching writing in its combination with Genre-based Approach, how Edmodo facilitated students’ engagement, and how students perceived the use of Edmodo in teaching and learning activities. This research employed a quantitative approach with pre-experimental design. The research involved 27 participants. This study aimed at finding the significant difference in students’ writing skill in recount text before and after using Edmodo App. The students showed various responses towards the use of Edmodo based on the uses framework. the score of the upper stage -1.828. The score of t-value is -3.105 and the degree of freedom is 26. The P-value was 0.005< α was 0.05. It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Some issues on the use of Edmodo identified in this research were bandwidth, confusion in using Edmodo, incompatibility of smartphone applications, and students’ lack responsibilities for learning.

Abstract

The ability of most senior high school students in Speaking English is still average and even tends to be low.Many students anxious to speak English. They think that English is difficult. Apart of theirintelligence, the environment is also very influential in the development of students' speaking abilities. In order to overcome this problem, the utilization of vlogging could be useful to help the students to improve students’ speaking anxiety, especially in explanation text which has medium difficulty. The purpose of this study is to improve the students speakinganxiety. This study was involved 31 eleventh grade students of MA Raudlatul Ulum. This study was a classroom action research which is consisted of 1 cycles. Each cycle of this study involved of 2 meetings. During each cycle, the students have some stages to make their speaking improved. The result showed that the improvement of preliminary test to cycle test 1 was 25.9%improvement or 51,6% of total students of the students who do not already passed the criteria of success. This result proved that 1 cycle of the utilization vlogging still not yet to improve students’ anxiety in speaking explanation text.However, the next cycle cannot be done because of the corona virus
