Abstract

The biopsychosocial needs of pregnant women have not been explored. We need an intervention that is able to restore the balance of the body. The purpose of this study was to prove the effect of effleurage massage on back pain in the third trimester pregnant women. A quasi-experimental study with randomized control group pre-test post-test design. The division of the intervention group was 18 people with effleurage massage and the control group was 16 people with pregnant exercise. Observations using the ODI scale for 3 weeks at the end of week 4 were evaluated. Before and after treatment, each group did not have a difference in the average pain score (intervention group p=0. 2 and control group p=0.830). The difference between the FHR differences between groups was not significant, the p value = 0.31. The intervention with effleurage massage was proven to reduce back pain discomfort in third trimester pregnant women compared to the exercise group, using the ODI scale. There is a need for continuous care in health services for mothers such as complementary services for effleurage massage as an alternative to care for pregnant women at health centers.

Abstract

Health services during a pandemic are a problem for the community and the health workers. Providing services during this period is very risky to public health, especially for pregnant women, babies, and toddlers. The lack of public knowledge about the spread and prevention of COVID-19 will affect the attitudes and behavior of the community (pregnant women, maternity, infants, and toddlers) to visit healthcare centers out of fear. The study aimed to determine the difference in the average coverage of the Mother and Child Health Program before and after the Covid 19 pandemic. The research design used a cross-sectional sample. This study sample resulted from the coverage of MCH health services (ANC, childbirth, and neonatal) from January to September 2020. This research was conducted at the Mandala Health Center. Data collection used secondary data from the PWS report register. The results obtained mean coverage of all variables (ANC of 1.492%, Linakes of 1.78%, and Neonates of 3.698%) experienced an increase after the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic when compared to the average before the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The highest mean coverage was neonatal services at 3.698%. At the same time, the results of the T-test showed that the p values obtained for all variables were (ANC P value of 0.243, Linakes P value of 0.082, and Neonates P value of 0.091) exceeding the alpha value used (0.05), thus in this T-Test, it was found that the average coverage before and after the spread of information about Covid-19 did not experience a significant difference. There was an increase in the average coverage and MCH (ANC, delivery by health workers and neonates) after the COVID-19 pandemic, and there was no significant impact from the COVID-19 pandemic on the coverage of the MCH program.

Abstract

Infant birth weight is an important indicator of survival, growth potential, and developmental capacity. Maternal health plays an important role in determining the well-being of newborns. A complicated pregnancy, inclusive of conditions such as preeclampsia, elevates the risk of giving birth to a low birth weight (LBW) baby. This study aimed to compare the impact of severe preeclampsia on the incidence of LBW babies in Dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara General Hospital Serang, Indonesia. This case-control analysis included 148 parturients recruited randomly from June to October 2022. Logistic regression was used as the analytical tool, with P=0.000 considered as demonstrating a significant association. The incidence rates of LBW and severe preeclampsia in 2018 were 19.84% and 14.15%, respectively. The case group recorded LBW within the weight range of 1,000-2,450 g, with 38% of them were Small for Gestation Age (SGA), while 50% and 12% were Appropriate for Gestational Age (AGA), and Large for Gestational Age (LGA), respectively. In contrast, the control group, with birth weights ranging from 2,600-4,500 g, 13.50% were SGA, while 77% and 9.50% were AGA and LGA, respectively. Parity was a confounding factor influencing the incidence of LBW, while maternal age did not present a significant correlation. Pregnancies with severe preeclampsia were found to have a 29-fold increased likelihood of delivering LBW babies compared to the control group when controlling for parity (P=0.000, CI 95%). Hence, women with severe preeclampsia pregnancies have a higher risk for delivering LBW babies of 29 times higher than the control.

Abstract

Health cadres play an important role in community health promotion, especially in rural areas. However, the process of empowering and training cadres has not always been effective in achieving the expected goals. This study aims to explore the knowledge, barriers, and needs of cadres related to child growth and development, so that health workers can design appropriate learning media and methods. This study used a qualitative phenomenological approach and was conducted in the Mandala Rangkasbitung Health Centre Working Area, Lebak Regency, Banten Province, in June-October 2024. The results showed that the cadres' knowledge about children's growth and development was quite good. However, they experienced difficulties in explaining the material to the community due to limited media. Cadres expressed the need for simple, pictorial health promotion media with written explanations to support their work. Therefore, traditional media such as leaflets or posters with a flip-sheet format are urgently needed to improve the effectiveness of health promotion by cadres.

Abstract

Stunting in children under five years of age remains a serious public health problem in Indonesia because it affects physical growth, cognitive development, and long-term productivity. This study aims to analyse mothers' knowledge and skills in preventing stunting and the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and these two aspects in the working area of the Malingping Community Health Centre, Banten. The study used a descriptive-analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach involving 80 mothers of toddlers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-square test. The results showed that most mothers did not know the definition of stunting (81.3%), its causes (86.3%), signs (83.8%), or how to prevent it (88.8%). Mothers' skills in prevention were also low, with 78.8% unable to prepare a balanced complementary feeding menu, 73.7% lacking hygiene when preparing food, and 81.2% rarely monitoring their children's growth. Bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between education and knowledge (p = 0.721), but there was a significant relationship between education and skills (p = 0.039). This study concludes that although mothers' knowledge about stunting is still low, practical skills are more influenced by education level. These findings emphasise the importance of educational interventions that not only increase knowledge but also build mothers' practical skills through community-based approaches and support from health cadres.

Abstract

Perineal tears are one of the most common complications of vaginal delivery experienced by primigravida mothers and have the potential to cause physical and psychological effects during the postpartum period. Effective prevention through non-invasive interventions during pregnancy is crucial to improving the quality of delivery. One exercise that is thought to increase the elasticity of the perineal tissue is the tawaruk sitting position, which is part of Maryam gymnastics. This study aims to analyse the effect of sitting in the tawaruk position on the incidence of perineal tears in primigravida mothers. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a single intervention group approach in primigravida mothers in their third trimester who regularly perform the tawaruk sitting exercise prior to delivery. The evaluation is carried out during the delivery process to observe the incidence of perineal tears. The results of the study indicate that performing the tawaruk sitting position during pregnancy is associated with a decrease in the incidence of perineal tears. This exercise contributes to improving the readiness and flexibility of the perineal tissue. Thus, the tawaruk sitting position can be recommended as part of the childbirth preparation programme for primigravida mothers

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of flipcharts compared to the KIA Book in improving mothers’ knowledge of child growth and development at Posyandu clinics. The study employed a mixed methods convergent design using a quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test two-group design and in-depth interviews with health workers. Quantitative data were collected using a 20-item questionnaire on child growth and development knowledge from 18 mothers of toddlers, divided into a flipchart group and a KIA Book group, whilst qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. Data analysis utilised the Shapiro–Wilk test, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, the Independent Samples t-test, gain score analysis, and ANCOVA, whilst effect sizes were reported using Cohen’s d and the standardised mean difference (SMD). The results of the study showed that the flipchart group experienced a greater increase in knowledge compared to the MCH Book group, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.06). Interview results indicated that health workers considered the flipchart to be more practical, communicative, user-friendly, and visually appealing compared to the KIA Book. The integration of quantitative and qualitative results suggests that the flipchart medium is more effective in supporting child growth and development education based on Posyandu in rural communities and has the potential to strengthen the implementation of Posyandu Reform through a more contextually appropriate health communication approach.
