Abstract

The forest area of SMBU is the largest conservation forest area in Southeast Sulawesi, located in the Buton archipelago, has many potential of forests that have abundant diversity. However, in line with the development of population andregional development, there has been a disruption to the forest area in the form of illegal logging. This has an impact on the decreasing diversity of forest vegetation in the region. The aim of the study was to analyze species richness and abundance as an indicator of the ecological diversity of forests in the forest area of the SMBU. Plant species measurement data are used to calculate the frequency, density, dominance and importance value index of vegetation, while analyzing the ecological diversity of forest vegetation with the calculation model using the diversity index method, species richness index and similarity index. The results showed that some species had the highest density, frequency and dominance at the tree spesies, namely the Holea (Cleistanthus sp), Redwood (Shorea spp) and Guava (Syzygium spp). At the pole level there are types of Guava (Syzygium spp), and Wukumalampa (Polyalthia lateriflora). While at the saplings level, guava (Syzygium spp) is found. Diversity index values at tree level, pole and saplings can be categorized as having decreased compared to the results of previous studies. The abundance of species shows that there is a tendency for the lower vegetation structure at the level of the pole and saplings to be less abundant. Keywords: forest area, northern buton wildlife reserve, forest structure, ecological diversity, diversity index

Abstract

No. 51. 2004. Kata kunci: Gastropoda, Mangrove, Logam Berat, TNRAW. ABSTRACTThis study aims todetermine the population structure and heavy metals contents of gastropods (Telescopiumtelescopium) living in RawaAopaWatumohai National RAWN Park. This research was conducted from January until March 2018. The sampling location of research was in mangroves grown along the Lanowulu and Roraya rives at RAWN Park. This research uses purposive sampling method.  This study used the plot quadrate of 1 m2 widethat placed in each station. The number of individuals of.T. telecopium was counted, while their fresh weight and length of T.telescopiumwere measured. In addition, the content of heavy metals of Lead (Pb) and Cadmium (Cd) into meat of T. telescopium were measured by using Atomic Absorption spectroscopy (AAS) in Laboratory at Faculty of Fisheries andMarine Science at Halu Oleo University. The population structure of T. telescopium was determined by histrogram analysis, its size distribution was determined by coefficient of variation (CV) analysis. The results showed that population structure of gastropods was normal curve with small ranges of size distribution. The content of Pb and Cd into sediment and sea water of Rorayariver were significantly higher as compared than that in Lanowulu river. On the other hand, the content of heavy metals Pb and Cd into meat of T. telescopium was not significantly different. Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Introduction: Climate change has significant impacts on human health and has the potential to trigger the emergence of various diseases by changing temperature, rainfall, wind patterns, and sunlight exposure. These changes create environmental conditions that support the survival, reproduction, and spread of disease-causing agents, such as viruses and bacteria. Adaptation of disease agents to these changes increases the risk of disease spreading in the community. In addition, climate change also expands the range of some disease agents, which were previously limited to certain areas, thus having a wider impact. Low temperatures (10–25°C), high humidity (?70%), and limited sunlight (UV index <6) promote the environmental persistence of the monkeypox virus, whereas high temperatures (>30°C) and UV exposure (290–320 nm) accelerate its degradation, influencing transmission patterns and infection risk in humans and animals. Methods: This study examines the climate conditions that may support the development of monkeypox in Jakarta. The main focus of this study is to identify climate factors, such as temperature, humidity, and rainfall patterns, that allow the spread of monkeypox virus. Climate data are analyzed to understand how these conditions play a role in increasing the risk of monkeypox virus transmission, both from animals to humans and between humans. Results: Our findings indicate a minimum temperature of 27.96°C, a maximum of 33.74°C, and an average of 30.11°C. The average humidity was 74.21%. The duration of sunlight ranged from a minimum of 7.30 hours to a maximum of 9.60 hours. Conclusion: Climate factors are key triggers in the development of Monkeypox within the environment. Specific temperature and humidity levels can create favorable conditions for the spread of the Monkeypox virus in certain regions. Additionally, extreme climate fluctuations may influence the spread patterns and severity of the disease, underscoring the importance of understanding how environmental conditions affect the transmission of diseases like Monkeypox.

Abstract

The present study was aimed to elucidate the spatial pattern in the beta diversity of marine bentic for Echinoidea and Asteroidea that assemblages the coastal area of Tomia Island, Wakatobi Marine National Park, Indonesia. The two transect lines of 460 and 260 m in length with small quadrats of 1m2 wide were placed at the open and unopen beaches perpendicularly to the coastlines. The important value index and similarity index SI of organisms on these taxa were estimated in each the transect. Echinometra mathaei was the most dominant Echinoidea at open and unpen beaches, while Protoreaster nodusus was the most dominant Asteroidea at both areas. Most of SI values of Echinoidea at open beach were estimated less than 50%, which was lower than SI values that of organisms at unopen beach. On the other hand, most of SI values of Asteroidea at both areas were estimated more than 70% representing high similarity degree of its species composition among sites. The disimilarity index of organisms in the taxa of Echinoidea and Asteroidae was increased significantly as increasing the distance of among stands, which suggested that pettern in beta diversity of these taxa was associated with the spatial heterogenity.
