Abstract

Bahasa tumbuh dan berkembang karena kebutuhan manusia untuk berinteraksi. Agar interaksi berjalan lancar dan tidak terjadi hambatan apalagi kesalahpahaman, diperlukan konvensi dalam memahami makna bahasa. Meski pada awal pertumbuhannya bahasa bersifat manasuka (arbitrer), dalam peng gunaannya diperlukan konvensi bersama antara pengguna bahasa. Itulah sebabnya mengapa bahasa bersifat manasuka, dinamis, dan konvensional. Dikatakan manasuka karena antara lambang dan acuan tidak memiliki hubungan logis. Sifat dinamis berkaitan erat dengan manusia sebagai penemu dan pengguna bahasa, yakni selalu melakukan inovasi dalam kehidupannya yang berimplikasi te rhadap b ahasa yang digun akannya. Ke manasukaan dan kedinamisan bahasa membuat bahasa tersebut sulit dipahami oleh manusia tanpa disertai dengan kesepakatan bersama dalam memberikan makna. Hal inilah yang menyebabkan mengapa bahasa bersifat konvensional.Makna, dalam kajian bahasa, menjadi isu utama karenabahasa dapat digunakan untuk berinteraksi sejauh bahasa itu dipahami maknanya. Mengenai makna bahasa ini, Aminuddin (2003) menyatakan bahwa makna memiliki tiga tingkatan. Pada tingkat pertama, makna menjadi isi abstraksi dalam kegiatan  bernalar secara logis sehingga melahirkan proposisi yang benar. Tingkat kedua, makna menjadi isi dari suatu bentuk kebahasaan. Tingkat ketiga, makna menjadi isi komunikasi ber upa pesan tertentu yang dikirim dan diterima oleh partisipan komunikasi. Mengkaji makna pada tingakt pertama melahirkan pemahaman tentang cara mengolah pesan secara benar. Mengkaji makna pada tingkat kedua melahirkan pemahaman tentang menata struktur kebahasaan secara benar sehingga menghadirkan makna seperti yang diinginkan partisipan komunikasi. Sementara mengkaji makna pada tingkat ketiga melahirkan pemahaman tentang cara mengungkapkan struktur kebahasaan dalam konteks komunikasi secara benar.Untuk memahami tiga tingkat makna tersebut diperlukan ilmu tentang makna bahasa. Salah satu ilmu yang mempelajari makna bahasa adalah SEMANTIK. Semantik mengandung pengertian studi tentang makna bahasa. Jika makna adalah bagian dari bahasa, maka semantik merupakan bagian dari linguistik (ilmu bahasa). Dalam kaitannya dengan ilmu lain yang sama- sam a m e n gkaji m akn a se p e r ti  p r agmat ik, sem io t ik, dan hermeneutik, semantik dianggap sebagai bagian sekaligus induk ilmu makna. Artinya, ada sebagaian ahli bahasa yang beranggapan bahawa semantik adalah bagian dari pragmatik, semiotik, atau hermeneutik, namun sebagian yang lain menganggap semantik sebagai induk dari pragmatik, semiotik, dan hermeneutik.

Abstract

Some studies show that Javanese language is now rarely used by Javanese people in their daily communication. Some Javanese prefer to communicate with national language and foreign language to Javanese language. As a result, only a few Javanese people who able to speak Javanese well. Therefore, to maintain Javanese Language IAIN Tulungagung conducts a Javanese Langauage course named Kepewaraan. This stusdy investigates Javanese Language maintenance through teaching Kepewaraan at IAIN Tulungagung. This study aims at describing the purpose, materials, methods, and evaluations of teaching Kepewaraan at IAIN Tulungagung. This study is a qualitative with sociolinguistics approach. The data were collected through interview, observasion, and documentation.  Data analysis reveals (1) the purpose of teaching Kepewaraan is to maintain Javanese language by digging, learning, and improving Javanese Language, (2) materials of Kepewaraan cover Javanese language and literature, speech levels, and rapping speech, (3) teaching methods implemented were immersion and drill, and (4) teaching evaluasions used were written and oral tests.

Abstract

Character building is one of the main goals in education. In addition to educating the nation, education is also expected to be the right instrument in character building, both theoretically and practically. A nation that has good character is a nation that implements noble values that grow from the nation itself in various aspects, economic, social, cultural, and also political aspects. There are many media that can be used in building national character, one of which is through learning Indonesian. The purpose of writing this article is to determine the role of the Indonesian language as a medium in instilling the character of the Indonesian nation. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative method with literature study. Data was collected using documentation techniques, namely collecting several research articles on the role of Indonesian language learning in instilling character values. The data analysis found (1) the implementation of Indonesian language learning as an effort to build national character (2) Indonesian language learning is able to foster a national spirit, (3) Indonesian language learning is able to foster a sense of love for the country. This paper discusses the meaning of the word "peace" in the phrase "at peace with COVID". Determination of meaning is based on the context of the phrase "at peace with COVID" or a contextual meaning. Based on the context of the situation, the word peace in the phrase "at peace with COVID" does not mean making an agreement with each other, or stopping to attack each other as in the KBBI. Rather, it means trying to adjust to the new situation so that you can feel peace.

Abstract

Slang is one of the typical languages ​​formed from Indonesian, but has been modified into a new language and is used when communicating. This study uses a research method that is descriptive qualitative method in the form of data which is then processed into a neat and easy to understand written form. This study aims to describe, validate the phenomenon under study, and to find out the reality of the phenomenon related to the use of slang by the youth of Selokajang Village. Data collection techniques used by researchers are interview techniques and also observation techniques or direct observation. Researchers used verbal data analysis techniques in the form of speeches descriptions. Data in the form of speech is based on the context of the situation, social, and cultural. Based on the results of the analysis through the interview method with the youth of Selokajang Village, it was found that there were 20 variations of slang used by the youth of Selokajang Village in daily communication. Language variation is one approach or study of sociolinguistics, language variation is often also called language variety. One form of language variation that occurs in people's speech acts is slang or also called millennial slang.

Abstract

Abstract: Literature is considered as a medium of cross-cultural communication that can lead to the existence of a culture in a new environment. Literature used as a medium of cross-cultural communication can be a tool for BIPA learning. The purpose of this study is to describe the existence of cross-cultural communication through literature in BIPA learning. The data of this research are in the form of depictions of events experienced by characters in literature. The data obtained were then analyzed by interpreting, described and then analyzed. The analysis was carried out in an analytical descriptive way through the reading of literary works. The data collection technique used is a literature study by collecting qualitative data from previous studies and relevant theories in accordance with the theme of the study. The results of this study prove that Andrea Hirata's Edensor novel represents persistence with culture and as a medium of cross-cultural communication in BIPA learning. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the cross-culture described in Edensor's novel is due to the persistence of an indigenous child's dream in a new environment.    Keywords: literature, communication media, cross culture, novel, edensor.

Abstract

Abstract: This article aims to examine the preconceptions in the dialogue of learning pragmatic-based Indonesian speaking skills at Muslim Santitham Foundation School Thailand. Data were obtained from pragmatic-based Indonesian learning activities at Muslim Santitham Foundation School Thailand. Data was collected by observation and documentation techniques. Observation was used to determine the strategies and learning models of Indonesian speaking skills in pragmatic-based dialogue. Documentation is used to obtain data from pragmatic-based learning. This research is a qualitative research with a pragmatic approach, namely the study of language used in real interactions that cannot be separated from the context. The data was analyzed with an interactive model adapted from Miles and Huberman, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, verification, and final conclusion. The results of the data analysis found that there were six types of preconceptions in the dialogue of learning Indonesian speaking skills. The data consisted of existential presumption, factual presumption, lexical presumption, structural presumption, nonfactual presumption, and counterfactual presumption.   Keywords: learning, speaking skills, pragmatics, preconceptions.

Abstract

This article aims to describe anonymous word forms; homonyms, comparisons of forms, meanings of synonymous words, and homonyms in Patani Malay and Indonesian in the conversations of Indonesian Tadris students from the 2018 class of IAIN Tulungagung, and its implications for communication and student relations IAIN Tulungagung. This research is descriptive qualitative research with a comparative linguistic approach. Data were collected by participating in observation and interview techniques. Observations to determine the real interaction between Thai students and Indonesian students on campus. Meanwhile, interviews were conducted to find out the meaning of synonymous and homonymous words in Patani Malay and Indonesian in the interaction between Thai students and Indonesian students at IAIN Tulungagung. The results of data analysis found that (1) Synonymous words in Patani Malay and Indonesian have basic meanings and additional meanings that differ in emotive meaning, the prevalence of use, and distribution; (2) Homonymous words have several forms of homonymous word classes, namely homonymous words that are homographs and homonyms that are homophones; (3) Synonymous and homonymous words in Patani Malay and Indonesian in the interaction of Thai students and Indonesian students at IAIN Tulungagung have implications for (a) misunderstandings often occur between Patani students and Indonesian students, (b) Information is often not conveyed because there are many dictions or words that have far different meanings, (c) When in class, Patani students often miss material because it is difficult to understand discussions in class that continue to use Indonesian
