Abstract

Constipation is a symptom of a problematic, non-smooth and irregular defecation process. While laxative is a substance that stimulates intestinal peristalsis as a reflex of direct stimulation of the intestinal wall that can cause or facilitate defecation. This study aimed to determine the ethanol extract of the leaves of Gynura procumbens (L.) Merr. effect as a laxative in white male mice induced by loperamide. The methods used for laxative testing are defecation patterns and intestinal transit methods. The parameters observed included frequency of defecation, stool consistency, stool weight every 30 minutes for 4 hours, and the length of the activated carbon in the mice's intestine. The extract was administered orally at a dose of 75 mg/kg BW, 150 mg/kg BW and 300 mg/kg BW, as a comparison used negative control (Na CMC). From the results of the study, it was found that the administration of ethanol extracts of Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr. leaves at the dose of 150 mg/kg BW gave laxative activity to white male mice (P <0.05).

Abstract

Penelitian tentang identifikasi dan penetapan  kadar natrium benzoate  telah dilakukan pada jahe giling halus yang diambil dari tiga lokasi yaitu Pasar Ibuh Payakumbuh, Pasar Bawah Bukittinggi dan Pasar Raya Padang, masing – masing lokasi diambil dua sampel. Analisis kualitatif asam  benzoat dalam sampel dilakukan dengan  reaksi esterifikasi dan reaksi warna. Hasil analisis kualitatif dari enam (6) sampel, diperoleh dua (2) sampel positif (+) yang mengandung natrium benzoat. Sampel yang positif mengandung natrium benzoat diekstraksi dengan menggunakan  pelarut eter dan ditetapkan kadarnya dengan menggunakan spektrofotometer ultraviolet. Dari hasil analisis kuantitatif yang dilakukan, didapat kadar asam benzoat pada sampel dengan rentang 339-552 mg/kg. Hasil ini membuktikan bahwa kadar asam benzoat yang terdapat pada  jahe giling halus tidak melampui batas pemakaian maksimum  yang ditetapkan dalam Peraturan Kepala Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan Republik Indonesia No.36 Tahun 2013 yaitu 600 mg/kg bahan, sehingga aman untuk di konsumsi masyarakat.

Abstract

Eggs consumed by many people because it’s easily to processed, low cost, and have perfect substances, especially proteins. The purpose of this research were to determine levels of the protein in the fowl’s eggs. The sample used in this research are rooster chicken egg, ayam kampung egg, duck egg, and quail egg. The protein content in fowl’s eggs were evaluated using Kjeldahl method by calculating the total nitrogen content and converted (conversion factor is 6.25). Result of the research protein content contained in rooster chicken egg 6.4506 % ± 0.1418, ayam kampung egg 6.9102 % ± 0.0475, duck egg 6.5996 % ± 0.0497, and quail egg 6.5532 % ± 0.0110. The result of the test statistics clarify that the sample eggs are examined to contain the protein with the levels of different significantly (F = 94.461 and sig. 0.000 (<0.05)). Where ayam kampung egg have protein content higher than another eggs sample and the lowest protein content contained in rooster chicken egg.

Abstract

Research on the determination of zinc in pharmaceutical preparations have been carried out by complexometry and atomic absorption spectrophotometry. This research aims to determine and compare the levels of zinc in pharmaceutical preparations by complexometry method and atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Samples used zinc tablets were Zinkid® (PT. Indofarma), Zincare® (PT. Kalbe Farma) and Zinc generic tablets (PT. Kimia Farma). Zinc calibration curve at wavelength 213.9 nm used standard solution ZnSO4.7 H2O have correlation coefficient 0.9937 and linear regression equation y = 0.1124 + 0.4403x. Standard deviation 0.088. Detection limit 0.5996 mg/kg and quantitation limit 1.9986 mg/kg. The assay of zinc by complexometry method trademarks Zinkid® obtained zinc content 3.57 %, Zincare® 6.12 % and Zinc generic 3.68 %. While the method of atomic absorption spectrophotometry Zinkid® obtained zinc content 3.64 %, Zincare® 6.19 % and Zinc generic 3.72 %. Result of statistical analysis using t-test, it could be concluded that the method complexometry and atomic absorption spectrophotometry for the determination of zinc in pharmaceutical preparations dosage levels were not significantly different (sig.>0.05).
