Abstract

Abstract

Soil water holding capacity is the ability of the soil to retain water and provide water for plants. Factors that affect soil water capacity include effective soil depth, soil particle size distribution, and soil organic matter content. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of straw biomass utilization on efforts to increase groundwater storage capacity in agricultural land. This study used four treatments. (J0) Provision of straw without molasses, (J6) provision of straw plus molasses with a dose of 6 liters/ha, (J12) provision of straw plus molasses with a dose of 12 liters/ha, and (J18) provision of straw plus molasses with a dose of 18 liters/ha. The research design used was a Completely Randomized Design. The number of sample units in the treatment was the provision of straw without a dose of 3 rings of molasses, a dose of 6 liters/ha of 3 rings of soil, a dose of 12 liters/ha of 3 rings of soil, and a dose of 18 liters/ha of 3 rings of soil. Each treatment was repeated three times. Measurement of groundwater holding capacity data was carried out by calculating the percentage of water content that could be stored in each sample. The average percentage of water content in the soil, straw administration without molasses dose was 16.65%, dose of 6 liters/ha was 27,91 %, dose of 12 liters/ha was 29.89%, and dose of 18 liters/ha was 28.11%.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine the effect of interrupted package icing broccolis on product’s quality and to obtain the best treatment that can be applied to maintain the shelf life of product. Fresh broccolis were stored in Styrofoam box covered by ice for period of time and then move to refrigerated showcase. The research consists of five treatments based on ratio time in Styrofoam box and display product. Comparison stored broccolis in Styrofoam box with ice and display product on show case; 12:12 (P2), 15:9 (P3), 18:6 (P4), 21:3 (P5). Other treatment is stored broccolis in Styrofoam box without ice and display product on room temperature with comparison time; 12:12 (P1). Every treatment was repeated every day until the broccoli reached the unacceptable quality according to panelist’s perception. Measured parameters including percentage of weight loss, respiration rate, color difference and the shelf life of broccoli. The results showed that longer time storage broccoli in Styrofoam box with ice smaller the weight difference. P5 have lowest consumption rate of oxygen of 62.63 ml/.kg.hr and lowest carbon dioxide production rate of 62.57 ml/.kg.hr. The color difference ∆Eab less than 9.73 indicated that broccoli’s floret was still green based on the panelists scoring, therefore it was still acceptable. Higher color difference’s poin and panelists scoring, broccoli was broken and not accepted in the market. In conclusion, the treatments only maintained the broccoli for five days of storage.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in container dimensions and fermentation time on the quality of dried cocoa beans from fermented with different container dimensions variations and also to determine the best treatment of the results of drying cocoa beans after the fermentation process. This research uses a factorial completely randomized design with two factors, namely the first factor is the variation of different container dimensions and the second factor is the fermentation time, which consistsof three levels, namely 5 days, 6 days and 7 days. The results of the research carried out showed that the dimensions of the container treatment and fermentation time affect the fermentation temperature, the number of seeds per 100 grams, water content, skin content and the results of the split test ie unfermented seeds, semi-fermented seeds and perfectly fermented seeds. From the results of observations that have been made, the best treatment on the fermentation temperature parameters is the largest dimension of the wooden box container treatment with 6 days fermentation time, which shows the number of results of the most perfectly fermented seed splitting test is the most compared to the unfermented split test and fermented half seed

Abstract

Liquid smoke is an acetic acid (vinegar) which is obtained by pyrolysis of such as wood, coconut shell, palm shells and coconut fibers which are then followed by a condensation process in a water-cooled-condenser. The purpose of this study is to determine yield and characteristics of the liquid smoke produced from the pyrolysis of "Tabah" bamboo stems with different temperature treatments. This study uses "Tabah" bamboo stems that have been cut into 5 cm length. The treatment used 3 kg of "Tabah" bamboo sticks. A tubular pyrolysis reactor with 38 cm in diameter and height of 50 cm was used in this research. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 different pyrolysis temperature treatments, namely 200 oC, 300 oC and 400 oC. The observed characteristics of liquid smoke were pH, yield, total phenol, total acid and liquid smoke density. Research shows that treatment of pyrolysis temperature affects total yield and total phenol, but has no effect on pH and density of liquid smoke. The highest liquid smoke yield (46.11%) was obtained at pyrolysis temperature of 400 oC (12,354% total acid) but its total acid is lower than of 200 oC which reached 13.774%. However the highest total phenol is producid at pyrolysis temperature of 300 oC (24.19 mg /l)

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how the yield of the upper, middle and lower stems of liquid bamboo stems produced from the pyrolysis process when the temperature reached 200oC and the chemical content (pH, total acid, total phenol). This study uses a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor, which is part of a different bamboo stem. The results of the study showed that the differences in the bamboo culms affected the characteristics of the liquid smoke obtained. The lower bamboo stem produce the highest rendemen (46,44%), the highest total phenol (2.79), and the highest percentage of char coal (58.40%). While the highest total acid (12.36%) and the highest pH (4.10) were obtained from the middle stem and upper stem, respectively. The smallest real difference analysis showed differences in the upper, middle and lower stems significantly affected the rendemen, total phenol, and charcoal percentage
