Abstract

Social capital is important because it represents the productive benefits of sociability. The importance of social capital cannot be understated since it relates to every benefit of living in a society rather than as a hermit. Meanwhile, the internet, as a mode of rapid communication, may free the individual from family ties and open opportunities to join new cultures and communities. Since the end of the last century, information and communication technologies (ICTs), and the internet in particular, have been considered essential in providing access to markets, decreasing transaction costs, and increasing income for a significant proportion of people living in developing countries. This paper aims to investigate the effect of bonding and bridging social capital, internet use on poverty in West Java Province. The data used in this study was sourced from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Java Province in 2014, namely the National Socio-Economic Survey covering 26 districts/cities analyzed through order logit model. The results showed that social capital and internet use had a negative effect on poverty in West Java.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the effects of social capital on poverty in West Java Province. The data is generated from the results of the 2014 National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS – Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional). The measures of social capital are mutual trust, tolerance, group, and networks. This study uses two instrument variables, namely length of residence and residence location to mitigate the endogeneity problem by using the Instrumental Variable Probit (IVP) estimation model. The results show that social capital negatively and significantly affects poverty. Furthermore, length of education as a proxy of human capital also significantly reduces the likelihood that a household becomes poor. Based on the findings, it is crucial that besides improving the infrastructure quality and providing financial assistance for education, governmental agencies in West Java Province facilitate poor households to participate socially and encourage the development of social organizations for the development of social capital as efforts to alleviate poverty in West Java Province.

Abstract

Agricultural land has decreased the impact on farmers in meeting their needs. The transition to agriculture complicates industry in its effort to meet the needs of farmers. Another issue, climate change will disrupt plant crops that will result in inefficient farming. Farming inefficiencies are a reason for farmers to diversify. This study was based on a micro data survey data of agricultural enterprise household income in the Regencies / Cities of West Java on a household level. Limits of household income diversification of farming is when the household has to venture outside the agricultural sector or one of the cores and the sources of income comes from salaries / wages of laborers / employees outside the agricultural sector. The results showed that with the increasing age of the household head the diversity decreases, the higher the education of the head of household the more it encourages the diversification of income, the more the additional land area increases diversification, the easier access to credit for adding revenue diversification, increasing the income of farmers that tend not to diversify, the more houses and stairs in school which support farmers to diversify, the more productive the household income lowers with diversification.JEL Classification: D31, O12, O13Keywords: Climate Change, Diversify, Diversity of Income, Farming, Inefficiency

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of government spending on provincial economic output in Indonesia. GRDP is used as a proxy for economic output growth. The object research is the provinces in Indonesia (33 provinces) with the research period 2016-2021. The research method used is Generalized Least Square (GLS). The results showed that the variables of unemployment, government spending on social protection, mean of year's scholling (MYR) and labor had a significant effect on output growth (GRDP), while education spending did not significantly affect output growth. Therefore, the central and regional governments make planning plans on an annual, medium-term and long-term basis with the intention that the role of the existing budget in government can produce targeted output, especially in the education sector.Keyword: output growth; government expenditure; generalized least square; GRDP

Abstract

Early marriage is a violation of children's rights and can have significant negative impacts. Some of the negative impacts of early marriage include physical and mental health risks, barriers to achieving good human resources, and increased risk of maternal and child mortality. This study aims to analyze the determinants of early marriage on the Human Development Index (HDI) using the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) method. The estimation results show a significant negative relationship between early marriage and the Human Development Index (HDI), as well as a significant relationship between almost all factors affecting early marriage and HDI, except GRDP per capita, contraceptive use, housing ownership, and child abuse cases. In order to improve human resources and community welfare, the main focus needs to be improving access to education, protecting children's rights, reproductive health, and poverty reduction. Preventing early marriage is key to providing optimal opportunities for children to grow and develop and promoting higher human development.
