Abstract

The Indonesia-European Free Trade Association Comprehensive Economic Partnership deal (IE-CEPA) is a proposed deal that links Indonesia's market access to EFTA, capacity building, and trade and investment facilitation. The goal of this research was to examine the impact of the IE-CEPA policy, GDP, and exchange rate on Indonesian exports to EFTA nations (studies in Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland). The IE-CEPA policy, which is assumed to be a dummy variable in this analysis, GDP collected from Worldbank statistics, and the exchange rate received from the Bank Indonesia website from 2013 to 2022 are the independent variables used in this study. The value of Indonesia's exports to other nations is utilized as the dependent variable. EFTA destinations, namely Switzerland, Norway and Iceland obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) from 2013 to 2022. This study employs panel data and a Fixed Effect Model (FEM) computed using the E-Views tool. The value of R2 = 0.940413 indicates that the estimated model can explain 94.0413 percent of the connection between the dependent and independent variables, with the remaining 5.9587 percent explained outside the estimated model. The findings of this study show that the IE-CEPA policy has no significant impact on Indonesia's exports to EFTA countries, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has a positive and significant impact on Indonesia's exports to EFTA countries, and the exchange rate has a positive and significant impact.

Abstract

Indonesia is currently entering a demographic bonus era, where the proportion of the productive-age population is larger than the non-productive age group. This phenomenon presents a significant opportunity for economic growth if the productive workforce can be effectively absorbed. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows an increase in labor absorption and a decline in unemployment rates from 2021 to 2023, partly driven by technological advancements, including online transportation services like Gojek. As a technology-based application company, Gojek has created extensive employment opportunities for the community, including in Badung Regency. However, the income of Gojek drivers is influenced by various factors, such as the duration of being on bid, activation of service features, age, and initial capital. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method involving 96 active Gojek drivers in Badung Regency. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using moderation regression analysis with the help of SPSS version 27.The results show that the variables on bid, capital, and feature activation have a positive and significant impact on the income of Gojek drivers. The longer the on bid time, the greater the capital owned, and the more features activated, the higher the driver's income. However, the age variable does not show a significant effect on income. Feature activation also moderates the relationship between on bid, capital, and income, indicating that the use of application features can strengthen the influence of these variables on income. The implications of this research highlight the importance for Gojek drivers to maximize their on bid time, manage capital effectively, and optimize the use of application features to increase their income. Additionally, Gojek is advised to continue developing features that can help drivers improve efficiency and productivity. The government can also play a role by providing financial support and training to enhance the welfare of drivers.

Abstract

The phenomenon of soybean import dependence in Indonesia refers to a chronic condition in which the majority of the country’s soybean demand is met through imports due to the highly limited and declining domestic production. Soybeans are a strategic food commodity in Indonesia, particularly as the primary raw material for tofu and tempeh, which are widely consumed by the population. However, the high Import Dependency Ratio (IDR) for soybeans reaching 90.05% in 2021 indicates that Indonesia remains heavily reliant on imported supplies to meet domestic needs. This dependence poses risks to national food security due to global price fluctuations, exchange rate volatility, and potential distribution disruptions. This study aims to analyze the effects of soybean production, soybean consumption, inflation, and the Rupiah-to-USD exchange rate on soybean import dependence in Indonesia. A quantitative approach was employed, using multiple linear regression models with annual time series data from 1989 to 2023. The dependent variable is the Import Dependency Ratio (IDR), while the independent variables consist of soybean production, soybean consumption, inflation, and the U.S. Dollar exchange rate. The results reveal that, partially, soybean consumption and the exchange rate have a positive influence on soybean import dependence, while soybean production and inflation have a negative influence. Simultaneously, all four variables significantly affect the IDR. The findings suggest the need for strategies to boost domestic production and stabilize the exchange rate to reduce soybean import dependence and strengthen national food security.

Abstract

Economic growth serves as a key indicator in determining the level of a country's development. Countries with high economic growth typically demonstrate macroeconomic stability, a conducive investment climate, and sound fiscal management. This study aims to analyze the influence of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), government expenditure, and inflation on economic growth in three ASEAN countries with different income levels as classified by the World Bank: Singapore (high income), Indonesia (upper-middle income), and Cambodia (lower-middle income). The research employs secondary data obtained from the World Bank covering the period from 1993 to 2023. A total of 360 observations were analyzed using panel data regression analysis. The findings indicate that Foreign Direct Investment, government expenditure, and inflation simultaneously have a significant effect on economic growth in the three countries. However, the partial effects of each variable differ across countries

Abstract

Food security is a crucial pillar in maintaining national stability, as the supply of certain commodities often depends on the dynamics of international relations. Through economic diplomacy, Indonesia has established strategic cooperation with Palestine, manifested through special trade policies regarding dates. This study aims to analyse the influence of import volume, international prices, and bilateral relations policies on the supply of dates in Indonesia during the observation period of 2013–2024. The methods used in this study include quantitative analysis employing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach and a structural break test to detect fundamental changes in the data. The results indicate that, simultaneously, import volume, international prices, and bilateral relations have a significant impact on the supply of dates in Indonesia. Partially, the international price variable has a positive and significant effect on supply in the short term, while bilateral relations policies through import duty exemptions have a positive but statistically insignificant effect on long-term supply stability. These findings indicate that although diplomatic policies are capable of opening market access, domestic supply stability remains highly vulnerable to global price fluctuations. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize trade policy instruments and strengthen more comprehensive bilateral cooperation to ensure the sustainability of the national food supply.

Abstract

Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) is an important indicator used to measure the contribution of the manufacturing sector to a country’s economy. Countries in the ASEAN region exhibit diverse developments in the manufacturing sector, which are influenced by various economic factors such as FDI, labor quality, and trade openness. This study aims to analyze the effect of FDI, labor quality, and trade openness on Manufacturing Value Added in several ASEAN countries during the 2015–2023 observation period. The method used in this study is panel data regression analysis with a significance level of five percent, employing the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach. The results show that simultaneously, FDI, labor quality, and trade openness have an effect on Manufacturing Value Added. Partially, FDI has a positive but insignificant effect on MVA, while labor quality and trade openness have a positive and significant effect on MVA. These findings indicate that improvements in labor quality and trade openness play a stronger role in driving the growth of the manufacturing sector compared to direct foreign investment inflows. Therefore, policies focusing on human resource development and increasing trade integration are needed to strengthen the sustainable contribution of the manufacturing sector
