Abstract

Beef cattle farming is the mainstay of Nadi Lestari Farmer Group in Perlang Village.The challenges faced by these farmers include the expensive cost of procuring cattle feed, little effect of concentrate feed on cattle productivity, farmers low proficiency in technology, high production cost due to dependence on commercial bio_activator, and environmental pollution. The purpose of this community service is to equip the farmers in this area with the knowledge on how to produce probio_Fm and process feed. The method used in this study includes preparation, socialization of the procedure of making probio_Fm, demonstration of the procedure, application of probio_Fm in feed processing, tutoring and monitoring and evaluation.The data were collected by means of interviews and questionnaires. Qualitative descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. As a result of the community empowerment program, the farmers gained the skill to make probio_Fm and are more creative feed processing.The achievement score of the lesson material for 20 farmers is 75%.The farmers were considered creative, since probio_Fm was applied in the processing of green feed or concentrate feed. Probio_Fm-based feeding positively affected the livestock’s appetite, feed management became easier and time and cost efficient, and the environmental pollution decreased. The results of the extension showed that there were some problems in the delivery of starter materials, the characteristics of local raw materials, and the supply of electricity. The results of monitoring and evaluation suggest that the farmers are now committed to using probio_Fm.The farmers in Nadi Lestari group are assumed to be able to produce, use, and, develop probio_Fm sustainably.

Abstract

The integrated farming system between cattle and oil palm plantation provide both food source for cattle and fertilizer for the plant. This community partnership program aimed to give technical assistance to cattle farmers in producing organic fertilizer with probio_Fm technology. The activity was consisted of three steps, which were introduction, demonstration (laboratory and field demonstration), and control (monitoring and evaluation). The success of the program was qualitatively analysed. As a result, the Saling Gumilang cattle farmer group have been able to apply probio_Fm technology in cattle faeces composting. The farmers absorb 85% of the information given, which meant that the information was considered easy to be understood. As much as 50% of the farmers stated their preference in sustainable use of the probio_Fm technology. The farmers had shown their skills to produce organic fertilizer with probio_Fm technology without further asssitance. They produced one ton of organic fetilizer from cattle faeces with probio_Fm technology. The fertilizer had browny-blackish colour, weak undesirable odor, and loose texture. In the future, sustainable implementation of the probio_Fm technology is expected to optimize the cattle faeces composting in order to get a higher advantages of the integrated farming system between cattle and oil palm plantation.

Abstract

The integrated cattle and oil palm system is part of an excellent program of the Bangka Tengah Regency to increase the production of plantation and livestock. The benefit of the system is ensuring the availability of the animal feed derived from oil palm plantation waste while the feces of cattle is potential in producing the fertilizer for oil palm. The community service aims to alter the paradigm of the society on the integrated cattle and oil palm system as well as to empower the people to implement the system. Four steps were used as the methods to implement the programs are preparation; socialization; simulation; and monitoring and evaluation. Qualitative descriptive was employed to analyze the data. The program found that 90% of stock farmers agreed that the system was easily doable. The stock farmers were able to use the probio_Fm technology in implementing the system by making the silage made from the oil palm plantation waste. The knowledge of beneficiaries had increased and their behavior in feeding activities had positively altered through the program. It was found that the livestock required a week to adapt to the silage as the fermented materials in the probio-Fm technology. The use of a chopping machine was able to be a choice as it was able to produce the smoother chopped midrib. It concludes that the system is sustainably used to be implemented by Tunas Baru stock farmer.

Abstract

Growing catfish is relative needs a short time (3-4 months) that can be profitable for cultivators. The increase of public demand for catfish provides an opportunity for everyone to carry out this business, including the orphanage students. Because of this, the orphan empowerment aimed to educate and practice the basics of conventional catfish farming used probio-Fm technology. The program was conducted in November-December 2018. The empowerment program location was at Nurul Ikhsan Orphanage, Batu Rusa village, Merawang District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The participants were 40 orphans. Four steps of the program consisted of 1) preparation (coordination, survey, and materials preparation), 2) discussion of the training materials (management of conventional catfish farming) 3) Field practice (demonstration of plastic fish tank design and application of probio-Fm) 4) Monitoring and evaluation (the distribution of the questionnaire). Based on the questionnaire, the average of participants (50 %) agreed if they categorized as motivated participants in the program, the Transfering theory and practice methods were easy to understand and follow their needs. Besides, they agreed on the continuity of the program. We concluded that the program succeeded in educating the orphan student about cultivating the catfish with the conventional method based on probio-Fm, however, catfish maintenance should be accompanied by the intensive assistance until harvest. Educating catfish business analysis could more motivate the orphanage student to practice catfish farming.

Abstract

This community service aimed utilizing probio_Fm technology in feed processing and animal health management for empower society. There were three steps in the activity they were socialization, demonstration, and monitoring and evaluation. Qualitative descriptive analysis was applied to analyze the data. The activity found that the beneficiaries had been empowered to make the feed and apply the Ayam Merawang health management by using Probio_Fm technology. The empowerment activity affected the increased knowledge of beneficiaries on the various source of feed material. There was some feed source used in the practice of fermented complete feed which was bran, corn, coconut pulp, rough fish, premix, pellets, molasses, and probiotics of probio_Fm. The feed smelled fermented and was tanned, testable, and durable feed. The durability of the feed could be up to 14 days. The application of probio_Fm technology through animal feed and water affected the increase of animal health, the reduction of bad smell of animal waste, the effective feed and animal health management by feed processing once time a week, and the low cost of feed which was Rp 5,000/1 kg with protein until 29% in 100 kg of feed. The utilization of the various potential source of materials animal feed in Merawang could be optimized by implementing the sustainable Probio_Fm technology.
