Abstract

In the globalization era, students are led to be able to have the interaction between countries and cultures. It causes the students to be proficient at using English as a communication tool. Besides, it is also used to compete globally. Therefore, this research aims to analyse content and language integrated learning (CLIL) implementation in English for Guiding of Diploma 3 of English Department. The data were gathered by documents study of the curriculum of study program, syllabus, and semester lesson plan of the course. This study used a qualitative approach on the basis of a qualitative study or an interpretive research design. Qualitative research is research that has the goal of analyzing data, especially the formation of new views that require the perspective of the respondent. The result found that the curriculum has explicitely stated that the students are expected to be able to use English in the area of tourism. It means both English proficiency and contents in tourism are obligatory delivered to the students. However, the syllabus and semester lesson plan give more emphasis on the students’ mastery on English with less attention given to the contents of tourism.

Abstract

Guru kurang membangun kesadaran literasi pada siswa sehingga berdampak pada literasi sains dan metakognitif siswa yang rendah. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengembangkan aktivitas pembelajaran berbantuan media Short Card terhadap literasi sains dan kemampuan metakognitif pada materi pada materi siklus air. Jenis penelitian ini yaitu pengembangan dengan model 4-D. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 48 orang siswa. Metode pengumpulan data adalah metode wawancara, studi dokumentasi, kuisioner dan tes. Instrument menggunakan kuesioner. Teknik analisis yaitu analisis deskriptif kualitatif, kuantitatif, dan statistic inferensial. Hasil penelitian yaitu validasi aktivitas adalah 4,7 dengan kualifikasi sangat baik. Berdasarkan uji manova diperoleh signitifikasi sebesar 0,000 dan lebih kecil dari 0,05, sehingga terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan literasi sains dan kemampuan metakognitif antara siswa mengikuti aktivitas pembelajaran berbantuan media pembelajaran Short Card. Disimpulkan bahwa aktivitas pembelajaran berbantuan media pembelajaran Short Card dapat meningkatkan literasi sains dan kemampuan metakognitif pada siswa.

Abstract

The low participation of students in learning English for Guiding Class is due to the need for more use of learning media that attracts students to follow the lesson well. The purpose of this study was to find out the obstacles faced by students in implementing virtual-based video tours in the English for Guiding Class. This research is descriptive. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The methods used in collecting data are observation and interviews. The instrument used in collecting data is a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that implementing virtual-based video tours causes eight main obstacles that students often face: ICT literacy, finance, internet connection, technical, administration, English proficiency, content knowledge, and time constraints. It was concluded that video tours require special support, such as a solid internet connection and ICT literacy. Further research will likely provide different solutions so that the problems faced by students can be overcome without neglecting the essence of creativity and innovation from video-based virtual tours in English for Guiding Class.

Abstract

This study aimed at developing civics education teaching materials with Balinese cultural perspective. This study was development research using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. The subjects of this research were a third-grade teacher and twenty-three third grade students. To measure the validity of the teaching materials an expert’s evaluation sheet was used and to evaluate the implementation of the civics materials teachers’ and students’ responses questionnaires were used. The results of of the study were: 1) one civics teaching material, seven lesson plans, and 7 student worksheets which have been developed with Balinese cultural perspective. The material that was developed was under the topic “Bangga Menjadi Anak Indonesia” (Proud to become Indonesian children). 2) This product has been validated by an expert in civics education, an instructional design expert, a Balinese culture expert, and an evaluation expert and an education expert, yielding CVR of 1.00 and CVI of 1.00, categorized as valid and feasible to be tried out. 3) This product has been tried out on a limited scale in the third grade and the result showed that the produce could enhance learning achievement of the students with the averages of 81.04, 86.83, and 90.22, in the first, second and third meetings respectively, and love of Balinese culture attitude of the students with the averages of 86.90, 88.46 and 91.42.

Abstract

Learning activities need to facilitate vocational students in learning independently. It certainly has an impact on students' low understanding and skills. This research aims to develop Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) for Vocational Education. This type of research is development research. The development model used is the ADDIE model. The subjects of this research consisted of 2 learning design experts, 2 learning media experts, and 2 learning materials experts, as well as practical tests carried out by 2 teachers. Individual trials were carried out on 3 students, and small group trials were carried out on 12 students. Data collection methods are observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The data analysis techniques for this research are qualitative descriptive analysis and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the research, namely the assessment given by learning material experts, obtained an average of 96.5%. It was concluded that the MALL developed had very valid qualifications. The results of the learning media expert assessment were 97%, so the qualification was very valid. The results of the assessment given by the teacher were an average of 96%. The results of individual trials were 95.6%, and small group results were 94.7% (very good). It was concluded that the mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) developed had very good and practical qualifications, so it was suitable for use in English language learning.

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the language functions and language expressions employed at Scusa Restaurant, located in Ayana Resort, Jimbaran, Bali. Through qualitative analysis, it explores how language is utilized in various aspects of the breakfast experience, including customer interaction, menu presentation, and service communication. This study used observation and interview for get the data. The observation and interview conducted with the subjects on 13 May 2024 until 5 June 2024. The data was analyzed using the theory of language functions and language expressions developed by Purnamaningsih (2020) and Sardianti (2020). This study found a total of 16 language functions and 16 language expressions that are commonly used by waiter and waitresses in handling guests during breakfast. The language functions include, greetings, asking for how many parties, asking for room number, asking for sitting place, sitting the guests, unfolding napkin, giving information about the buffet, offering coffee or tea, presenting menu, taking order, repeating order, serving food or coffee and tea, checking back, settling payment, thanking the guest, and wishing a good day. Each language function is expressed through various language expressions that are appropriate to the situation and conditions while serving guests. The findings reveal the strategic use of language to enhance customers satisfaction, reflect cultural values, and maintain a high standard of hospitality.
The Implementation of the Paikem Approach by Using the Graphic Media to Increase Students’ Activeness and Learning Outcomes in the Language Subject Made Aryawan Adijaya

Abstract

Student engagement is not optimal and has an impact on learning outcomes, so the PAIKEM approach, aided by graphic media, must be used. The study's goal was to examine the increase in activeness and learning outcomes of Indonesian fourth grade students after using the PAIKEM approach with graphic media. This is a two-cycle classroom action research project. In this study, data was collected through observation and testing methods. The study's findings were analyzed using both descriptive statistical and quantitative descriptive methods. According to the findings of the first cycle of research, the average value of student learning activity was 71 and 71% of classical completeness was obtained. In cycle II, the average value of student learning activity was 86.41, with a classical completeness of 86.41%. The average activeness of 15.41 and 15.41% of classical completeness appears to have increased. The second research cycle yielded an average of 66 student learning outcomes and 66% classical completeness. In cycle II, the average value of student learning outcomes is 85.5, with a classical completeness of 85.5%. There appears to be a 19.5 and 19.5% increase in learning outcomes, respectively. It was concluded that using the PAIKEM approach in conjunction with graphic media could improve the learning outcomes of Indonesian students in elementary school class IV.

Abstract

Primary school students' reading skills are often low because reading is considered a less enjoyable activity. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model assisted by fairy tales in improving the reading skills of elementary school students. This study is pseudo-experimental research with a non-equivalent post-test only control group design. The research population consisted of 98 elementary school students, with a sample of 43 students selected using random sampling techniques. The instrument used in this study is a reading skill test. The data were analyzed using inferential statistical analysis, specifically t-tests. The results showed that there was a significant difference in reading skills between the group of students who followed the CIRC learning model assisted by fairy tales and the group that participated in conventional learning. It was concluded that the CIRC learning model assisted by fairy tales had a positive influence on the improvement of reading skills of elementary school students. The implications of this study show the importance of implementing innovative learning strategies to improve students' reading skills.

Abstract

Permasalahan yang ada pada mitra yakni kemampuan mitra dalam penggunaan Bahasa asing masih rendah. Selain itu, mitra kurang terampil dalam pemanfaatan teknologi yang berbasis pelatihan bahasa asing. Pengabdian ini merupakan Pengabdian tindakan dengan pendekatan partisipatif yang melibatkan 24 anggota Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis). Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa asing melalui penerapan Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL). Data dikumpulkan menggunakan metode observasi, wawancara, dan tes kompetensi dengan instrumen berupa lembar observasi, panduan wawancara, serta pre-test dan post-test. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa 83,3% anggota Pokdarwis mengalami peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan bahasa asing, sementara 95,8% peserta menguasai penggunaan teknologi MALL. Pengabdian ini memberikan kontribusi pada pengembangan kapasitas masyarakat lokal dalam bidang pariwisata. Implikasi dari Pengabdian ini menegaskan pentingnya pelatihan berkelanjutan dan penguasaan teknologi untuk mendukung daya saing destinasi wisata lokal.
