Abstract

There are some English sounds that Indonesian language doesn’t have. Concequently, some sounds are difficult to pronounce by Indonesian learning English. This research was aimed at analyzing the acoustic characteristic of English fricative sounds produced by the second semester students of D3 English Department in order to reveal the difficult sounds of English fricative clearly. Qualitative design was used in examining the acoustic characteristic of the sounds. The data were gathered by recording the sounds produced by fifteen subjects. The data were analyzed using the figures of oscillogram and spectogram shown by the speech analyzer. Based on the result of data analysis, it is shown that there are five dificult fricative consonants for the second semester students of D3 English Department. Those consonants are the final [v] , the final and middle [θ], the initial and final [ð], the final [z], and the initial [ʃ]. The results of the research also show that the students tend to change the sounds with other sounds which will result the change of meaning of the words.Key words: fonetik, acoustic, english, speech analyzer

Abstract

This research and development (R&D) study aimed at developing instrument for assessing the guest satisfaction to the facilities and services of guest houses in Sekumpul village. The current study aimed to; (1) find out the types of instruments needed to be developed (2) develop prototype of instruments, and (3) examine the quality of the developed instrument. This study employed Gall et al. (2003) model  in developing the instrument. Two (2) owner of the local guest houses were involved as the subjects, while the object of the study was the developed instruments. The results of the study show that the guest houses owner needed instruments for assessing the guest satisfaction to the facilities and services of the guest houses. The prototype of the instrument was developed based on the result of need analysis and theory used in this study. The quality of the developed instruments (content validity) was very high and the practicality was excellent. Prototipe instrumen dikembangkan berdasarkan hasil analisis kebutuhan dan teori yang dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini. Kualitas instrumen yang dikembangkan sangat tinggi, dan tingkat kepraktisannya dikategorikan sempurna. Abstract

In the pandemic due to COVID-19, a massive online learning process is being carried out in education. This study aims to investigate types of motivation and identify factors that influence motivation among pre-service English teachers to participate in webinars as learning material in a distance learning context. This research is descriptive research using a mixed methods research design. The sample for this research consisted of 96 teachers. The methods used to collect data were questionnaires and interviews. The data collection instrument uses a questionnaire sheet and interview guide. The data was tabulated and analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistical analysis to categorize the data and determine the percentage of data. The research results show that the motivation of pre-service English teachers is dominated by extrinsic motivation. It has a significant impact on student motivation to take part in webinars. Several important points about respondents' motivation for webinars are useful for increasing and enhancing their motivation for participating in webinars to increase professional development as prospective English teachers.

Abstract

Learning activities need to facilitate vocational students in learning independently. It certainly has an impact on students' low understanding and skills. This research aims to develop Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) for Vocational Education. This type of research is development research. The development model used is the ADDIE model. The subjects of this research consisted of 2 learning design experts, 2 learning media experts, and 2 learning materials experts, as well as practical tests carried out by 2 teachers. Individual trials were carried out on 3 students, and small group trials were carried out on 12 students. Data collection methods are observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The data analysis techniques for this research are qualitative descriptive analysis and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the research, namely the assessment given by learning material experts, obtained an average of 96.5%. It was concluded that the MALL developed had very valid qualifications. The results of the learning media expert assessment were 97%, so the qualification was very valid. The results of the assessment given by the teacher were an average of 96%. The results of individual trials were 95.6%, and small group results were 94.7% (very good). It was concluded that the mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) developed had very good and practical qualifications, so it was suitable for use in English language learning.

Abstract

Teaching materials have a big role in facilitating student learning goals, both short-term and long-term, in producing graduates who comply with the standards described above. This research aims to analyze the perceptions of English Language Education Study Program students regarding the teaching materials used in the English for Tours and Travel course and the basic problems faced by course teachers in developing English for Tours and Travel teaching materials. This research includes descriptive research based on local wisdom. The subjects of this research were 42 people, consisting of 2 lecturers teaching the English for Tours and Travel course and 40 seventh-semester students in the English Language Education Study Program. Data collection methods in this research include questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained was then analyzed using quantitative descriptive statistical analysis techniques by calculating the mean (M) and Standard Deviation (SD). From the results of document analysis, questionnaires, and interviews, it can be concluded that it is urgent to develop English for Tours and Travel teaching materials based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the language style used and the message conveyed in Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel Advertisements. The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The researcher, table, and notebook are instruments used in this research. Based on the findings and discussion, there are 7 types of language styles from 20 data points found. The language styles are 1) Hyperbole, 2) Metaphor, 3) Alliteration, 4) Personification, 5) Metonymy, 6) Prolepsis, 7) Synecdoche. Hyperbole is one of the most frequently used language styles in hotel advertisements, with a frequency of occurrence of 25% of all language styles analyzed. The message conveyed to the reader is that the language style used in Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel advertisements is carefully designed to persuade and attract potential guests by evoking emotions, creating a sense of luxury or comfort, and highlighting unique experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the most frequently asked job interview questions and answers during job interviews. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, with data collection by distributing questionnaires to three subjects from the Human Resources Department. The research has been conducted from January 2024 - March 2025. This research is expected to provide insight into the types of questions commonly asked in job interviews, as well as help job seekers prepare answers that are more effective and in accordance with the expectations of the interviewer. The results of this study show that there are 27 most frequently asked questions and their answers during job interviews at Hotels in Bali.
