Abstract

Sustainability of cultural heritage in Yogyakarta continues to face barriers, those are partly due to the result of natural disasters, economic pressure, space requirements for modern activities and the lack of understanding and concern of the local community to the cultural heritage owned. Kotagede is one of Yogyakarta's cultural image-forming spot that still has diverse cultural heritage, which includes traditional house and performing art groups. Cultural Center presents as an effort of conservation, utilization, and development to maintain the sustainability of cultural heritage in Kotagede. The designing problems to solve are regarding with the concept of zoning and transforming Kotagede traditional house as a place of performing art activities, as well as with regard to the concept of circulation, transportation, nodes, and paths to connect them. Genius Loci is deployed to preserve the historical value, uniqueness, and authenticity owned by Kotagede. Genius Loci is the soul of a place that can be felt through identification and orientation towards the boundaries. As the object of planning and designing is a conserved traditional house, Infill Design conservation is employed as a technical method in the designing process. Infill Design conservation divides the traditional house into three zones i. e. critical, important, and contributory zone. The methods consist of issue and idea study, site determination, study of literature, problem statement formulation, approach analysis, macro, mezzo, and micro zone analysis, and the result of data analysis which is presented in the form of concept. The concept of macro scale includes the concept of circulation, transportation, and the role and position of the cultural center on the structure of Kotagede Cultural Heritage Site. The mezzo-scale concept includes the concept of zone-sequence. In each sequence, some activities and places of performing art activities will be selected based on their Genius Loci. The micro scale concept includes Infill Design of spatiality, structure, and utility by concerning the form, color, and original material of the roof, walls and floor. Keywords: Cultural Center, Infill Design, Genius Loci, Kotagede, Traditional House, Traditional Performing Art

Abstract

ASEAN Economy Community is a great opportunity for each country in ASEAN to expand its economy. These opportunities are not only related to trade market, but also in services market, experts, investment and capital flows. However behind these opportunities, not a few countries in ASEAN respond the open market or free market of ASEAN become a threat. Badan Ekonomi Kreatif (Bekraf) was established as a government effort to overcome ASEAN free market, which creative economy is Indonesia economy focus nowadays. Since was establishes at early 2015, Bekraf has been quite instrumental in moving the creative economy in Indonesia. Headquarter planning becomes important not only to facilitate Bekraf, but also supports the development of creative economy in Indonesia to compete in the free market of ASEAN. But now in the planning and design issues have become more widespread, namely environmental problems. Jakarta as government center, the location of the site is a crowded city, have limited land, little green open space, and a variety of other environmental problems. These conditions make the construction of new buildings in Jakarta becomes irrelevant.  Sustainable Architecture approach is right solution because this approach has the ability to address environmental issues with sustainable resources which aims to improve the quality of the natural and human. The problem in this design is how to present principle of Sustainable Architecture at office and commercial building typology. Planning and design Bekraf Headquarter use connectivity, indigenous, and long life, loose fit methods which are three principle of Sustainable Architecture. Design applications of Sustainable Architecture at Bekraf Headquarter processed through strategy of Sustainable Architecture, those are sustainable land use, sustainable material, sustainable energy, sustainable water, sustainable health and well-being, and sustainable community. The strategy of Sustainable Architecture building design embodies a minimal pavement at the site, the contours of landscape, using modular and renewable materials, rosters design and mass openness to optimize cross ventilation and natural lighting, wastewater treatment pond design, structuring elements of vegetation, accessibility design, building automation systems, as well as the design of corridors into public spaces. Keywords: Badan Ekonomi Kreatif, Connectivity, Creative Economy, Indigenous, Long Life, Loose Fit, Sustainable Architecture

Abstract

This journal was done in the interest of architectural studies. The goal of the research was to build a Japanese Community Center in Solo. The study began from a certain phenomenon. Ever since the signing of Peace Treaty between Indonesia and Japan, both country had immersed themselves in various cultural exchanges. This leads to the increase of Japanese culture lovers in Indonesia almost every year. To anticipate and control this phenomenon, a place that can hold and regulate the speed and effects of it is needed. The Japan Community Centre will be a place for Japanese Communities’s activities, a medium for learning Japanese culture, and the new spot of historical vacation for Solo City. Metaphorical Architecture was chosen as the design approach with consideration that through Metaphorical Architecture, the character and purpose of the building can be better presented for the public. The Metaphorical Architecture used was the mix of Abstract Metaphor (intangible) and Concrete Metaphor (tangible). The main problem of this designing process is what will be metaphored through this Japan Community Centre. The exploration starts from chosing the name for the building, which is Mugen Jou (Infinity Castle). The metaphorical charcteristics that will be used, based on the name chosen, are Grand, Firm, Massive, The feel of Japanese Castle, Uncountable visualization, and Stacked ala Lego. Keywords: Metaphorical, Grand, Firm, Massive, Castle, Uncountable

Abstract

This time, in the modern era, human lifestyle are increasingly changing the human habit who makes them more concern with a worldly life and tarnished their needs of God, thus starving of their spirit has been ignored. For some people to go to church only be regarded as a formality or just things that do not even need to do. This makes human have lack understanding about the human essence which are part of God creation. Now, the church only seen as a building which is place to worship, the true meaning from the church is the human itself. This deconstruction of meaning are writer try to reverse back as a basis of Church planning and design. The problem in this design process is how to design church which can make physical and psychological impact to the user. The Universal Church of Metaphysics approach is most suitable appointed because the elements of Metaphysics Architecture can give impact to user psychical and physical. The Universal means intended to accommodate all of the Nazarenes, not only for Christian or Catholic believes, as well as to facilitate all people physical condition, normal people or disabilities people. Metaphysics Architecture can be achieved from some aspects consist of archetype, nature, light, materials, human, and memories which will be creating particular feel and atmosphere in the design. The main target of this architecture form is the user that is human. All of senses and sensors on the human body become essence in this work. Through planning location, nature, and all of architectural details which writer implemented to Universal Church and Retreat Facilities design, which have an aim to restore the human essence and can ‘presenting’ the God inside of the design. Keywords: Human and God, Metaphysics Phenomenon, Universal Church

Abstract

This paper focuses on the redesign of Jebres Market, Surakarta. The market is redesigned to meet the national standard and to fit the condition in which the nearby Solo Jebres Station Area is changed into heritage tourism area by municipal government. In this case, the market is changed into Tourism Market due to the municipal plan to turn the nearby Solo Jebres Station Area into a heritage tourism area. The plan for the redesign of Jebres Market includes addition of capacity of users, the development of supporting facilities such as parking area, an addition of public area, and also other facilities. As the Solo Jebres Station is a heritage building, the redesign of Jebres Market as the supporting facility for the Station uses contextual architectural approach as mentioned by Brent C. Brolin in Architecture in Context (1980). This is done by adjusting the architectural elements of the architecture of Solo Jebres Station building to be applied to the new Tourism Market. Following Brolin’s theory, the elements applied to the new Market are the proportion of windows, exits and entrances, driveways, building material surfaces, finishing, and textures, parks, and architectural styles in buildings.
