Abstract

This article examines the integration of the Gulen Movement into the neoliberal economy. In spite of the Gulen Movement currently undergoes a severe persecution under President Erdogan and charged as FETO (FethullahTerrorist Organization), Gulen’s success story in the economy is of interest for any Islamic movements to emulate. In contrast to those belong to the revivalist Islam that rejects the neo-liberal economy, Gulen does accept the neoliberal economy. He integrates neoliberalism into Islam, and vice versa. Gulenacceptance of the neo-liberal economy, in turn, encouraged his movement to adopt for further neoliberal principles such as human rights, multiculturalism, cosmopolitanism, etc. Since Gulen willingly immerses in the neo-liberalist system, he could be categorized into a progressive Islam. Nevertheless, Galen shows his critical attitude toward the capitalist economy despite his acceptance of the system. This article argues that Gulen’s adoption of the neo-liberal economy is a method of da’wah. This article calls it as ‘da’wah in the economic field’.As it is the case, Gulen’s adoption of neo-liberal economics does not appear simultaneously once, rather through gradual processes in which it goes through three stages of his da’wah: individual transformation, social transformation, and the state.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the emergence of the assumption that science is said to be scientific if it can be proven empirically and can be accepted by reason. Although the epistemological instruments of Islamic studies are different from Western epistemological instruments, Islam legitimises this opinion by arguing that the most valid level of validity of science only comes from revelation without denying the truth of science obtained through empirical and rational sources. This research was studied using the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) approach. Data were collected from various journals and books relevant to the themes raised in this study. The results of data analysis found that science is said to be scientific if it can be proven empirically and rationally, this opinion is expressed by Western scientists. Whereas in the Islamic view, such as the opinion of Muslim philosophers such as Al-Kindi, Al-Farabi, Ibn Rushd, and Ibn Sina, science will reach the level of scientific validity if it comes from revelation, belief, and sometimes obtained through inspiration. The findings of this study confirm that the Islamic epistemological approach can contribute significantly in advancing Islamic education, by combining empirical, rational, and revelation sources as the basis for developing science.

Abstract

This article discusses the Nurcu movement and Risale-i Nur amidst the process of modernization during Republican Turkey. The atheistic science adopted during the modernization absorbed Said Nursi’s concern. In attacking the philosophy of materialism and atheism, he resorted to an attempt to interpret the Qur'an, namely Risale-i Nur. Through the Risale-i Nur, a group of Said Nursi's followers came together into a social movement, which is known as the Nurcu movement. This article aims to reveal how Said Nursi faced modernity and posited the Nurcu movement in the midst of modernity. This research used a content analysis approach to the works written by Said Nursi, especially Risale-i Nur, as the main data, and supplementary data were gathered from studies conducted by scholars concerning Said Nursi, Risale-i Nur, and the Nurcu movement. In addition, reading on the intellectual context surrounding the emergence of Risale-i nur becomes a tool to comprehend the content of Risale-i Nur and the thoughts of the author. This research found that with the presence of Risale-i Nur, the followers of Said Nursi's teachings make Risale-i Nur a marker of group identity bringing with them tasks to seize science and modernity. Said Nursi's work is a modernist kind of interpretation of the Quran. Thus, in the midst of modernization and secularization in Turkey, Risale-i Nur offers Muslims an identity.

Abstract

This research investigates the role of the Islamic education system in shaping the nation's character and addresses the challenges threatening the progress of Islamic education in Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a desk research method, the study analyzes the phenomenon through extensive literature, including academic articles, books, and reports. The findings reveal that Islamic education in Indonesia confronts the repercussions of a post-conservative era characterized by the ascendancy of conservative religious interpretations altering the political landscape and education system dynamics. Key challenges include resource constraints, inadequate government attention, and the proliferation of conservative ideologies that marginalize local religious authorities. The repercussions include diminished educational quality, widespread teacher moonlighting, and obstacles to integrating Islamic values into the national education framework. Incidents of sexual violence within Islamic educational settings have further damaged institutional reputations. Nonetheless, Islamic education holds significant promise as a solution for character development in Indonesia through a holistic approach that engages schools, families, and communities. Adequate governmental and societal backing is imperative, involving sufficient resource allocation and policies conducive to innovation in Islamic education. By fostering synergy among schools, families, and communities and embracing a flexible, forward-thinking approach, this initiative aims to cultivate a generation strong in faith, morals, and proficient across various scientific and technological domains, poised to confront global challenges and position Indonesia as a cultured, highly competitive nation on the worldwide stage.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the values of NU in responding to the political practices of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) which represents an Islamic political model based on the tarbiyah movement. The focus of this study is based on the differences in the characteristics of ideology and Islamic approaches between Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) which is moderate and based on the Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah tradition and PKS which tends to be scripturalist and ideological. This study uses the methodSystematic Literature Review (SLR)by reviewing literature from various national and international scientific journals in the period 2015–2025. The literature was analyzed through a process of identification, selection, and synthesis to gain a deep understanding of NU's response and attitude towards PKS's political style. The results of the study show that NU values such as tawassuth (moderate), tasamuh (tolerant), tawazun (balanced), and i'tidal (fair) encourage a critical but non-confrontational attitude towards identity politics and political pragmatism carried out by PKS. NU's attitude tends to prioritize national ethics and the welfare of the people rather than the dominance of certain political ideologies. In conclusion, NU values function as a balancer in the contestation of Islamic politics and offer an inclusive and contextual approach in dealing with the dynamics of religious politics in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the phenomenon of Islamic political convergence through the electoral behavior of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) members in Trenggalek towards the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and to analyze its impact on the configuration and dynamics of the local political map. This phenomenon is interesting because historically, NU is known to have cultural and political closeness to the National Awakening Party (PKB), while PKS is more representative of the modernist Islamic movement. Changes in the orientation of NU voters who show affiliation or sympathy towards PKS raise theoretical and empirical questions regarding the shift in Islamic political identity and the potential for the formation of new political spaces at the local level. The method used in this study isSystematic Literature Review(SLR) on 21 scientific articles published in the period 2013-2023, both from accredited national journals and reputable international journals. The articles reviewed were evaluated based on the suitability of the focus on the theme of Islamic political convergence, the relationship between NU and PKS, and changes in voter behavior at the local level. The results of the analysis show that political convergence between NU and PKS members is made possible by political pragmatism factors, PKS's inclusive digital preaching strategy, and the weakening of the ideological identity of traditional mass-based parties. In Trenggalek, this tendency has an impact on the shifting configuration of local political power, the weakening of PKB's dominance, and the emergence of a new electoral coalition configuration. In conclusion, Islamic political convergence opens up opportunities for more competitive local democratic dynamics, but at the same time challenges traditional ideological identities. The implications are important to consider in campaign design, Islamic political consolidation, and strengthening the value-based voter base.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively understand the electoral behavior of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) members in Trenggalek in the context of the affiliation of some of them with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), amidst increasingly fluid and pragmatic political dynamics. Specifically, this study analyzes the factors that drive the association of NU members with PKS, describes PKS's political strategy in embracing NU's traditional base, and examines the implications of this affiliation for the future of Islamic politics in Indonesia. This study uses the methodSystematic Literature Review (SLR)by collecting 21 scientific articles and contextual data from relevant studies, including media analysis, voter behavior surveys, and party documents. The results of the study indicate that this affiliation is driven by disappointment with traditional NU parties such as PKB, the strong work ethic of PKS cadres at the grassroots, an adaptive socio-cultural approach, and perceptions of PKS's political integrity. These findings also indicate the emergence of a new pattern in the political behavior of NU members that is more pragmatic and oriented towards concrete benefits. In conclusion, this phenomenon reflects changes in the increasingly plural and open political map of Islam in Indonesia. The implication is that Islamic-based organizations and parties need to build new strategies to maintain relevance amidst dynamic changes in voter orientation

Abstract

This study examines the integrity of general elections through the lens of prophetic journalism. A qualitative approach was employed to explore the perspectives and experiences of institutional administrators, community leaders, and local residents regarding electoral integrity grounded in prophetic journalism. This approach emphasizes the importance of relationships among various actors in the public policy process, including government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. The research was conducted at the East Java Provincial General Election Commission (KPU), with data collected directly by the researcher through observation of words and actions. Data collection was carried out holistically and integratively, focusing on relevance to the study objectives. Data analysis involved systematically searching, organizing, and processing all interview transcripts while ensuring validity through careful verification procedures. The results indicate that electoral integrity can be maintained effectively through a combination of deliberative democracy and prophetic journalism. In this context, the media functions not only as an information distributor but also as a moral agent ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness throughout the electoral process. Campaigns to validate and counter hoax news during elections are most effective when prophetic journalism is integrated with agenda-setting theory, allowing the media to shape public perception through information filtering, digital literacy education, and the delivery of objective and ethical reporting. Prophetic journalism also serves as a social control mechanism, reinforcing transparency and oversight by combining the press’s watchdog function with principles of honesty, responsibility, and wisdom, preventing electoral manipulation and safeguarding democratic integrity.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the cosmic spiritual experiences experienced by religious tourism visitors and their implications for the evolution of transpersonal consciousness. Cosmic spiritual experiences are phenomena characterized by feelings of deep connection with transcendent reality, awareness beyond ego identity, and individual psychological and existential transformation. This study uses the method Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to analyze various previous studies that discuss the phenomenon of spiritual experiences, transpersonal awareness, and their impacts in the context of religious tourism. The research results show that cosmic spiritual experiences in religious tourism can occur through various factors, such as a supportive spiritual environment, religious rituals, and individual psychological readiness. This experience contributes to increased transpersonal awareness, which is characterized by a sense of universal connectedness, increased empathy, and a change in life orientation towards deeper meaning. In addition, this research found that integrating spiritual experiences in daily life is a challenge for individuals. In conclusion, cosmic spiritual experiences have great potential in developing transpersonal consciousness, but require social support and spiritual guidance. Therefore, it is recommended that religious tourism provide reflective and educational programs to assist individuals in understanding and internalizing their spiritual experiences.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of electoral affiliation of some Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) members in Trenggalek towards the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), which represents a new dynamic in the local political configuration and creates a political identity dilemma. Historically, NU members are known to have political and ideological closeness to the National Awakening Party (PKB). However, in recent years, there have been signs of a change in electoral preferences towards PKS, a party with a more modernist Islamic orientation. This study aims to understand the factors that drive this affiliation and analyze its impact on the collective identity of NU members and the local political map in Trenggalek. The method used is a literature study (library research) with a qualitative approach, where data is collected through literature studies of books, scientific journals, research reports, and other scientific sources relevant to the theme of Islamic politics, religion-based voter behavior, and religious identity. The results of the study indicate that this electoral shift is influenced by PKS's adaptive strategy in the approach to preaching and political communication that accommodates NU traditions, disappointment with PKB's performance at the local level, and the openness of the young generation of NU to alternative political choices. However, this convergence has created identity tensions, especially among NU figures who view PKS as a threat to traditional values. The implications of this study indicate the importance of an inclusive approach in Islamic politics and the need for a reorientation of Islamic parties in responding to the dynamics of local community religious identities and aspirations in a contextual and sensitive manner
