Abstract

Abstract: This article is aimed at disclosing a conflict of military coup attempt in Turkey occurring on July 15, 2016. The research question addressed in this article is why Fethullah Gülen was to blame in the military coup. It was clearly read that military coups happening in the story was as a personal feud between Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Fethullah Gülen. To obtain an overall picture of the dispute in the coup attempt, the author presents three conflicting groups: secularists, Islamist or ultranationalist elites and moderate Muslim called cemaat. Military represents a secular group, Erdoğan represents Islamist or ultranationalist elites, while Gülen represents moderate Muslim pro-Western brand of Sunni Islam. The conflict between the Gülen and Erdoğan was actually triggered to get more influence in the Turkish national political stage. The author noted that this personal conflict was really a feud between the both two men from different groups of Muslims having different perspective though really both of them coming from one religion (Islam) and one stream sect (Sunni). Gülen had struggled through a political cultural lines, while Erdoğan had fought through political channels post-Islamism. ملخص: يتناول هذا البحث النزاع المحتدم حول محاولة الانقلاب العسكري الذي حدث في تركيا 15 يوليو 2016. ويحاول هذا البحث الإجابة على سؤال واحد مفاده : لماذا تشير أصابع الاتهام إلى فتح الله كولن ويلقى اللوم عليه؟ من الملحوظ جليا أن الانقلاب العسكري في هذه المرة تعكس نزاعا فرديا بين رجب طيب إردوغان وفتح الله كولن. وتجلية للصورة الحقيقية  من هذا النزاع، يتناول الباحث ثلاث فئات لكلٍّ منها دورها في هذه المحاولة الانقلابية: فئة علمانية تتمثل في العسكرية التركية، وفئة إسلامية سياسية تتمثل في حزب رجب طيب إردوغان، وفئة إسلامية ثقافية تحت قيادة فتح الله كولن. فالنزاع المحتدم بين كولن وإردوغان في الحقيقة هو من جرّاء تنافسهما في استجلاب الهيمنة على المسرح السياسي في الدولة. ويرى الباحث أن هذا النزاع الفردي يعود إلى نزاع بين مسلمين يمثلان تيارين إسلاميين مختلفين في منهجية النظر، مع أنهما ينتميان إلى دين واحد (الإسلام) وينبثقان من مذهب واحد (المذهب السني). فكولن يختار المسار الثقافي اللاسياسي، بينما يفضّل إردوغان المسلك السياسي على منوال ما بعد الإسلاموية. Abstrak: Artikel ini mengupas konflik di seputar kudeta militer di Turki yang terjadi pada tanggal 15 Juli 2016. Pertanyaan riset yang dibahas dalam artikel ini adalah mengapa dalam kudeta militer tersebut justru Fethullah Gülen yang disalahkan? Terbaca dengan jelas bahwa kudeta militer kali ini bercerita tentang perseteruan personal antara Recep Tayyip Erdoğan dengan Fethullah Gülen. Untuk memperoleh gambaran utuh mengenai perseteruan ini penulis menghadirkan tiga kelompok yang berkonflik dalam drama kudeta tersebut: kelompok sekuler, Islam politik dan Islam kultural. Militer mewakili kelompok sekuler. Erdoğan mewakili Islam politik, sedangkan Gülen mewakili Islam kultural. Konflik antara Gülen dengan Erdoğan sesungguhnya dipicu oleh perebutan pengaruh di panggung nasional Turki. Penulis melihat bahwa konflik personal ini tidak lain adalah perseteruan antara dua sosok Muslim dan sekaligus dua kelompok Islam yang berbeda dalam cara pandang meskipun sama-sama berasal dari satu agama (Islam) dan satu aliran (Sunni). Gülen berjuang lewat jalur kultural apolitis, sedangkan Erdoğan berjuang melalui jalur politik post-Islamisme.

Abstract

Abstract: Many are doubt about the roles of religion in maintaining peace, accusing it even as a source of conflicts. However, others attempt to prove that religion can become a peace keeper. In Islam, this idea comes from Mohammed Abu Nimer. This article examines Abu Nimer’s ideas of non-violence approaches to conflict resolution. It explores his non-violence initiatives in peace building and analyzes his arguments for conflict resolution and the necessity of interfaith dialogue. To him, interfaith dialogue is a medium through which world peace amongst religious communities can be established. It is only and through dialogue that people can avoid having hostilities and violent conflict in the name of religion. This article argues that Abu Nimer’s method can be classified into communicative pluralism that combines particularist views and universalist views. His approaches to peace building and conflict resolution feature unique concepts that differ from other interfaith activists.

Abstract

There are three models of approaches to modernity that was born in the West; 1) accepting it by taken for granted, 2) rejecting it, and 3) trying to find a new alternative in addition to the Western civilization with the spirit of re-establishing the practice of ijtihad, erasing taklid, and returning to al-Quran and al-Sunnah. This article discussed the idea of Said Nursi in the reconciliation of science and Islam. It offered an epistemological approach that integrates Islam and science. The author attempted to break the academic problem and borrowed Ian Barbour’s approach. Four reactions that occur as a result of the encounter of science and religion: conflict, independence, dialogue, and integration. The theory states that the first step to make the integration go smoothly is removing science from materialist philosophy. This step is performed by Nursi. Nursi built a new epistemology as an offer to the condition of Muslims, who at that time should redevelop the civilization which was left behind by European nations. Nursi reconciled Islam and science towards integrity. Nursi was against Materialism for the first step. Secondly, he put the al-Qur’an as the highest source of science. By making the method of science under the principles and worldview of the al-Qur’an, it can change the modern scientific understanding of the universe to be in accordance with the description of the al-Qur’an.

Abstract

AbstractThis article examines the source of Fethullah Gulen's controversy in his da’wah, that is golden generation and their infiltration into state institutions. Golden generation is the main goal of Gulen's mission. He creates golden generations through his educational activities. He founded schools, dormitories and isik evler. After undergoing training, golden generations are urged to pursue their further education in top universities. Afterwards, they are encouraged to pursue careers in any state institutions. Facts have it, Gulen succeeded in placing the golden generation in all state institutions, including the police, prosecutors, judiciary and military institutions. They reach some high posts in the state institution. This very way is Gulen’s method to ‘Islamize the persons of the state institutions’ rather than to ‘Islamize the institution’. Later on this very method and bringing the golden generation into the state institutions give birth to a controversy that culminated in the 2016 Turkish coup. This article concludes that the coup is originated from Gulen's concept of the golden generation and his encouragement for the golden generations to take into state institutions and carry out 'Islamization' from within the institution. Keywords: Gulen Movement, Gulen’s da’wah, Gulen’s controversy, golden generation, infiltration. AbstrakArtikel ini mengupas sumber kontroversi dakwah Fethullah Gulen, yaitu keterkaitan antara golden generation dengan infiltrasi mereka ke dalam lembaga negara. Pembentukan golden generation merupakan tujuan utama dakwah Gulen. Ia mencetak golden generation melalui aktivitas pendidikan. Gulen mendirikan sekolah, asrama dan isik evler. Setelah menjalani penggemblengan, diharapkan golden generation akan menembus universitas papan atas. Mereka selanjutnya didorong untuk berkarir di lembaga negara. Terbukti, Gulen berhasil menempatkan golden generation pada semua lembaga negara, antara lain lembaga kepolisian, kejaksaan, kehakiman dan militer. Mereka menempati pos-pos penting di lembaga negara tersebut. Cara Gulen ini merupakan metode dakwah Gulen yang hendak ‘mengislamkan pemegang lembaga’, bukan ‘mengislamkan lembaga’. Kelak metode dakwah dengan cara menempatkan golden generation ke dalam lembaga negara ini melahirkan kontroversi yang berpuncak pada kudeta Turki 2016. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa kudeta tersebut sesungguhnya bersumber dari konsep Gulen tentang golden generation dan aktivitas dakwah Gulen yang mendorong golden generation tersebut untuk berkiprah di lembaga-lembaga negara dan melakukan ‘Islamisasi’ dari dalam lembaga. Kata kunci: gerakan Gulen, dakwah Gulen, kontroversi Gulen, generasi emas, infiltrasi.

Abstract

Artikel ini mengupas perlakuan masyarakat mayoritas Muslim terhadap situs keagamaan minoritas. Biasanya, eksistensi situs suatu agama menunjukkan warga penganut agama tersebut di suatu daerah. Akan tetapi, candi Hindu Panataran memperlihatkan sesuatu yang berbeda. Meskipun canti ini adalah termasuk candi Hindu, tetapi mayoritas penduduk di sekitarnya adalah beagama Islam. Mereka yang beragama Hindu, bahkan Islam, masih mengunjungi candi ini. Tidak semata-mata untuk rekreasi, tetapi juga untuk mengikuti ritual keagamaan. Kenyataan ini memicu pertanyaan, bagaimana sebuah candi Hindu masih bias hidup sebagai situs keagamaan di tengah masyarakat mayoritas beragama Islam? Untuk mendapatkan jawaban atas pertanyaan ini, peneliti melakukan pengamatan pada wilayah sekitar candi, wawancara dengan para pemangku situs dan warga sekitar. Fenomena tersebut tidak lain adalah ekspresi ‘culturalized religion’ yang diwujudkan dalam ekosistem kebudayaan.

Abstract

This article explores the identity of Turkey's Nurcu Islamic movement. The movement was born in the midst of a harsh competition between the secular Kemalists and the political Islamists of Milli Gorus. The Nurcu movement redefined and reorganized aspects of modernization in Turkey. The Nurcu movement sought to integrate modernity and tradition. Education was the method for this integration. Modernization was put into action without sacrificing the nation's culture which was built on the Islamic foundation. Nurcu played the role of a moderate Islam. It takes part in the socio-political sphere in Turkey. During this study, I visited several Nurcu movement offices in Jakarta, Tangerang and Semarang. I interviewed a number of Nurcu movement activists, and I observed the movement's activities closely. For reading the collected data, I used the Marxian structural paradigm during which I took into account the social, political and economic context that surrounds it. This article assumes that the Nurcu movement's activities reflect a cultural movement.

Abstract

Humanism is a Western philosophical thought that believes that humans have high values and positions and are at the center, or are referred to as anthropocentric. This kind of thinking has both positive and negative impacts. The positive impact is to prioritize human values, while the negative impact is that humans do not need God in their lives because they believe in their own efforts. Javanese people are known for their friendly, humanist and religious people. Religious humanism is a feature of the Javanese model of religious behavior. RMP. Sosrokartono is one of the figures from Java whose thoughts indirectly include human values that characterize the religious behavior of the Javanese people. The method in this research is a qualitative type. The data to be analyzed is in the form of primary data, namely the thoughts of RMP. Sosrokartono and secondary data, namely supporting data related to research. The aim of the research is to reveal the values religious humanism RMP. Sosrokartono and how it is implemented on the religious behavior of the Javanese people. The results of this study are that there are RMP. Sosrokartono whose name is ilmu kantong bolong, ilmu kantong, ilmu kantong kosong, and lmu sunyi in which there are values of religious humanism
