Abstract

AbstractThere are many juvenile sex offender cases in Indonesia. This study aimed to reveal how the psychodynamics of moral disengagement on juvenile sex offenders. Through moral disengagement, juvenile sex offenders commit various rationalizations to negate the feelings of guilt. This research used the qualitative method of an instrumental case study. The participants were seven juvenile sex offenders. The collecting data through semi-structured interviews and analyzed through the stages of categorization and direct interpretation, correspondence and patterns, and naturalistic generalization. The credibility used data triangulation and asked the participants to read the interview transcript. The results showed the psychodynamic of juvenile sex offenders began by forming moral disengagement before the occurrence of sexual abuse or initiation phase.  After committing fornication, adolescents could feel guilty or not feel guilty due to moral disengagement. This study showed that participants frequently used the attribution of blame, dehumanization, distortion of consequences. The theoretical implications were that moral disengagement also functions to overcome fear after moral violation and different forms of moral disengagement from theory, namely active avoidance.Keywords: Instrumental case study; Juvenile sex perpetrators; Moral disengagement AbstrakPencabulan oleh remaja masih banyak terjadi di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap bagaimana psikodinamika moral disengagement remaja pelaku pencabulan. Melalui moral disengagement, remaja pelaku pencabulan melakukan berbagai bentuk rasionalisasi untuk meniadakan perasaan bersalah. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif studi kasus instrumental. Partisipan penelitian adalah tujuh remaja pelaku pencabulan. Pengambilan data menggunakan wawancara semi terstruktur. Analisa data melalui tahapan kategorisasi dan interpretasi langsung, korespondensi dan pola, serta generalisasi naturalistik. Kredibilitas penelitian menggunakan triangulasi data dan meminta informan membaca transkrip wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan psikodinamika remaja pelaku pencabulan diawali dengan membentuk moral disengagement sebelum terjadinya pencabulan, yaitu pada fase inisiasi.  Setelah pencabulan atau fase pasca pencabulan, remaja dapat merasa bersalah namun dapat pula tetap tidak merasa bersalah karena moral disengagement. Bentuk moral disengagement yang banyak digunakan partisipan adalah atribusi menyalahkan, dehumanisasi, distorsi konsekuensi. Implikasi teoritis adalah moral disengagement juga berfungsi mengatasi perasaan takut setelah pelanggaran moral dan bentuk moral disengagement yang berbeda dengan teori yaitu penghindaran aktif.Keywords: Moral disengagement; Remaja pelaku pencabulan; Studi kasus Instrumental

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to explore the moral disengagement in juvenile sex offenders and how their social environment relates to moral disengagement. Cognitive processes have a role in encouraging adolescents to fornicate a girl. The theory of moral disengagement can explain why adolescents do sexual offenses. This research used a qualitative method of a case study. The number of participants was seven adolescents aged 16-18 years and had been found guilty of forcibly by the court. The interview method was used to collect the data. The results showed that the juvenile sex offenders used seven forms of moral disengagement of Bandura’s theory: moral justification, euphemistic labeling, displacement of responsibility, diffusion of responsibility, distortion of consequences, dehumanization, and attribution of blame. The result also showed that juvenile sex offenders used active avoidance to minimize their guilty feeling. This was a different form of early moral disengagement form of Bandura. The social environments identified in this research were the family condition, permissive environmental, peer group, pornographic exposure, lack of appreciation of religion, and the absence of adverse reaction from the victim. Keywords: moral disengagement, The juvenile sex offenders, social environment, case study

Abstract

Berperan sebagai pendamping remaja Katolik tidak hanya bertanggungjawab akan perkembangan iman Katolik para remaja namun juga harus siap menjadi tempat bertanya para remaja. Salah satu pertanyaan dan curhat yang dilontarkan adalah masalah seksualitas. Sebagai umat Katolik, jawaban yang diberikan seharusnya berlandasan ajaran Katolik. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan ketua pendamping remaja Katolik di Paroki Salib Suci Sidoarjo, kegagapan para pendamping merespon pertanyaan remaja Katolik tentang seksualitas bersumber dari ketidaktahuan tentang ajaran seksualitas dari sudut pandang agama Katolik. Solusi yang ditawarkan dari permasalahan tersebut adalah mengadakan training of trainer untuk para pendamping remaja di Paroki tersebut tentang teologi tubuh sebagaimana ajaran Santo Yohanes Paulus II. Teologi tubuh menjadi landasan penting untuk membimbing remaja Katolik dalam menghadapi isu-isu seksualitas. Program ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat pemahaman para pendamping remaja terhadap martabat tubuh sebagai cerminan rupa Tuhan, mengintegrasikan nilai agama dalam pendampingan remaja. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan tanggal 11-12 November 2023. Peserta yang hadir sebanyak 24 orang di hari pertama dan 26 orang di hari kedua. Kegiatan berjalan lancar. Kegiatan ini terbagi menjadi 8 sesi. Evaluasi dari peserta menyatakan bahwa mereka dapat memahami materi. Peserta juga menganggap bahwa para pemateri mampu menyajikan materi dengan baik

Abstract

Self-comparison on social media tends to harm mental health. Students, as some of the most active social media users, are particularly susceptible to self-comparison on these platforms. Self-construal is a cultural factor that influences the level of social media self-comparison. This research examines whether independent and interdependent construal affects self-comparison in college students. Participants in this research were 485 students aged 18–25 years who used social media. The data obtained was analyzed using regression analysis. The results of this study showed that only interdependent construal significantly predicts social media self-comparison among students. At the same time, there is no correlation between independent construal and social media self-comparison. However, interdependent construal only contributes 2% to social media self-comparison. This research can provide an overview of how cultural factors, especially certain self-construal types, can lead to the emergence of social media self-comparison.

Abstract

Purpose : This community service activity aimed to address the issue of verbal bullying among junior high school students (SMPN) in East Surabaya. Although schools are expected to foster a safe and supportive climate, verbal bullying continues to emerge, particularly during students’ transition from elementary to junior high levels. Design/Methodology/Approach : The solution was implemented through a psychoeducational program involving the use of a booklet titled “Choose Words, Build Better Relationships”. The booklet contained material on verbal bullying and social skills development for adolescents. The program was delivered on December 6, 2024, involving 20 students and 8 guidance teachers from four SMPNs. Activities included a pre-test, group-based worksheet discussions guided by trained facilitators, a verbal bullying seminar, and a post-test. Evaluation was conducted using a 10-item questionnaire based on the booklet contents. Findings : The average pre-test score was 95.5, increasing slightly to 97 in the post-test. Although the quantitative improvement was modest, qualitative feedback indicated improved awareness of bullying, enhanced social problem-solving skills, and a more positive student mindset. Participants also showed enthusiasm in sharing knowledge with peers. Practical Implications : The booklet and psychoeducational method can be practically applied in other schools as a preventive measure to reduce verbal bullying. Teachers and peer leaders can replicate the method to cultivate a positive school environment and encourage anti-bullying behavior. Originality/Value : This project introduced a structured and replicable approach to bullying prevention that emphasizes student reflection and peer-based knowledge dissemination. The integration of the Stop-Think-Do method also adds value by equipping students with actionable steps to address interpersonal conflict.

Abstract

Adolescence are characterized by the process of exploring for identity. In this process, adolescents are prone to compare themselves with others, which can lead to feelings of dissatisfaction and low self-esteem. This condition is also experienced by adolescent who are members of the Timothy Catholic Youth Community in the Waru, Sidoarjo. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase self-esteem in adolescents, enabling them to know, accept, and respect themselves better. This community service activity is divided into four stages: observation and interviews, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The activities are conducted in the form of psychoeducation, including lectures, sharing sessions, group games, and assignments. The activities was held on November 26, 2023, for two hours. The participants showed enthusiastic responses during the activity, requiring more time than initially planned. Based on the evaluation results, providing psychoeducation about self-esteem to adolescents in the Timothy Catholic Youth Community is considered effective. It helps participants to identify their strengths and weaknesses, share their true selves with others, and provide positive affirmations to themselves.

Abstract

Agresivitas adalah perilaku yang muncul karena emosi negatif yang keluar. Salah satu penyebab agresivitas adalah ketidakmampuan individu mengelola emosi marah. Fenomena ini dialami oleh anak-anak marginal usia 6-11 tahun di pinggiran rel kereta api X Surabaya. Pelatihan regulasi emosi menjadi alternatif dalam menurunkan agresivitas anak marginal tersebut.  Melalui pelatihan regulasi emosi anak akan belajar keterampilan mengenal emosi, mengekspresikan emosi, mengelola emosi, mengubah emosi, dan menenangkan diri saat menghadapi emosi. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 10 anak yang tinggal di pinggiran rel kereta api kecamatan X di Surabaya yang terdiri dari 5 anak perempuan dan 5 anak laki-laki yang memiliki tingkat agresivitas cukup tinggi. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Time-series design atau desain  rangkaian waktu dengan mengukur pre-test kemudian melaksanakan treatment dan diakhiri dengan mengukur post-test. Pelaksanaan pelatihan regulasi emosi ini dilakukan sebanyak 4 kali dalam kurun waktu 2 minggu. Setiap sesi pelatihan berlangsung selama 1,5 jam, dengan jarak antar pertemuan yang dijadwalkan secara merata, yaitu 3-4 hari..  Uji normalitas yang menunjukkan data pre-test dan post-test terdistribusi normal. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji paired-test yang membuktikan bahwa dari data pre-test dan post-test terjadi penurunan skor yang signifikan.  Skor rerata Pre-test 497 > post-test 385,90.  Ini artinya, skor rerata post-test lebih kecil dari pre-test. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa ada kecenderungan penurunan tingkat agresivitas setelah mendapat pelatihan regulasi emosi. Untuk mendukung hasil uji paired-test kemudian dilakukan uji paired sample test coorelation yang menunjukkan hasil nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,950 (p < 0.01.

Abstract

Access to social media can encourage adolescents to make social comparisons, causing psychological distress. There are two emotion regulation strategies, namely cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. The cognitive reappraisal strategy weakens the relationship between social comparison on social media and psychological distress, while the expressive suppression strategy strengthens it. This study aimed to examine the role of emotion regulation as the moderating variable between social comparison and psychological distress.
