Abstract

Trimethylamine N-oxyde (TMAO) known to be breakdown into formaldehyde (H2CO) in the fish-based product such as squid egg crackers or keritcu under high temperature condition of frying. The oral reference dose (RfD) suggested by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is 0.2 mg formaldehyde per kg body weight per day. Blood lead level should below 5 µg/dL  to prevent of reducing cognitive function, decreasing of IQ, and academic achievement. We examine the content of total formaldehyde, leads and proxymate analysis of squid egg crackers. in two different products of halal certificated keritcu in Pangkalpinang. Two different products of halal certificated keritcu were selected after 77 students of junior high school (average body weight was 34 kg), and 95 students of senior high school (avereage body weight was 51,65 kg) in Pangkalpinang city were participated in organoleptic test. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was conducted to the two products of keritcu in Pangkalpinang city to examine its total formaldehyde. Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic-Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) methods was conducted to examine the leads (Pb) content of two different products of keritcu. SNI 01-2891-1992 methods was conducted for proxymate analysis. In two different products of halal certificated keritcu, no formaldehyde content was detected (limit of detection 1,31 mg/kg), as well as no leads content was detected (limit of detection 0,24 mg/kg). Water content 2,38-2,96%, ash 2,71-3,28%, protein 5,7-6,11%, total lipid 24,39-27,29%, and carbohydrate 61,34-63,84%.  Our data show that these two products of keritcu are safe to be consumed by students of junior high school (average body weight was 34 kg) for not more than 5,22 kg keritcu per day, and not more than 7,89 kg keritcu per day for students of senior high school (avereage body weight was 51,65 kg). Leads content of these two products of keritcu (i.e less than 0,24 mg/kg) showed that these products are safe to be consumed.

Abstract

The challenges faced by the world of education such as universities are not only producing graduates who have good intellectuality, mentality, and morality, but also high productivity and independence. Aquaponics-based aquaculture activities are one of the models that can be developed as a pilot project in the development of productivity and independence of the academic community. This community service activity aimed to present a model in the Program Hilirisasi Produktif (PHP) that can be implemented within the University of Bangka Belitung in particular and the academic community at large. This activity was carried out through an analysis of strength, weaknesses, opportunity, and threat, the stages of preparation of facilities and infrastructure for the application of aquaponics-based aquaculture techniques, the stages of program implementation, and the stages of results evaluation. The activities that have been carried out within a period of three months have produced juvenile of catfish, tilapia fish, broodstock of tilapia, and kangkung vegetables (Ipomea reptans Poir). The sustainability of this activity is very important to make aquaponics-based aquaculture become an effort to produce an independent community in the food sector.

Abstract

Disease caused by the bacterium A. hyrophila known as MAS (Motile Aeromonad Septicaemia) decreases survival and growth in Catfish. Phytopharmaca is a potential solution to replace antibiotics. One of the phytopharmaca which has the potential to be effective, inexpensive, safe for humans, and environmentally friendly is avocado (Persea americana) with active compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. The potential for prevention of bacterial diseases with avocado leaf extract on the clinical symptoms of fish in MAS disease needs to be scientifically proven to be applicable to aquaculture economically and environmentally sustainable. This study uses an experimental method with several stages, namely testing LD50, in vitro and in vivo tests. The LD50 concentration of A. hydrophila is at a density of 102 cfu/ml. The filtrate of avocado leaf maceration showed that a clear zone diameter is equivalent to penicillin in the in-vitro test. Fortification of avocado leaf extract on feed is quite effective in preventing MAS disease in the in-vivo test. The fastest of MAS disease clinical symptoms recovery is at a dose of 100 ppt and 300 ppt on the 7th day. The highest Survival Rate (SR) was found at a dose of 100 pp (100%) which was equivalent to negative control and followed by a dose of 200 ppt (73.33%), 300 ppt (66.67%) and positive control (46.67%).

Abstract

Color is one of the parameters in determining the value of ornamental fish. Goldfish (Carassius auratus) as one of the popular ornamental fish in Indonesia also requires the best color for its quality. One of the factors that affect the brightness of fish color is pigment-forming materials that can be obtained from feed. Melinjo fruit peel (Gnetum gnemon), which is often a waste, has the potential to be an ingredient to maintain the brightness of fish color with its carotenoid content. Research on the fortification of Melinjo fruit peel extract on goldfish feed used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments, namely (A) untreated feed, (B) feed with the addition of 3.5 ml/100 g of feed extract, (C) 4 ml /100 g feed, and (D) 4.5 ml/100 g feed. The average increase in fish color RGB at the location under the dorsal fin with treatment for 40 days was (A) 5.13, (B) 6.4, (C) 11.1 and (D) 12.77. The four treatments showed significantly different results with the best results being 4 ml and 4.5 ml per 100 grams of feed. Melinjo fruit peel which is an organic waste can be used to increase the color brightness of ornamental fish through the addition of its extract in feed.
