Abstract

Siamese betta fighting fish (Betta splendens) is the one of exports comodity of ornamental fish in Indonesia, but the problems of culture that fish is sex ratio of female higher than male. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of java long pepper (Piper retrofractum Vahl) for betta siamese fighting fish masculinizations through larval immersion. This research was designed by randomized completely design with three treatments of different java long papper doses (0,5 mg/L, 1 mg/L, and 2 mg/L), positive control (17α-metiltestosteron 20 mg/L), and negative control with there replications for each treatments. The treatments of java long pepper doses was given to thirty larvae (D4) through immersion during 24 hours. The research showed that java long pepper extract with dose 2 mg/L obtained the higher male ratio (59,82%) compared with dose 0,5 mg/L (45,11%), 1 mg/L (53,92%), and negative control (23,23%). Java long pepper extract with dose 2 mg/Lincreased the male ratio 36,59% compared with negative control. Java long pepper extract have no effect for survival rate of siamese betta fighting larvae during cultured.

Abstract

The distribution and enrichment of heavy metals in sediments will affect the life of the organisms that lives in it. The purpose of this study is to explain the enrichment and contamination levels of heavy metals Cu and Pb in bulk sediments in the northern and southern parts of Bangka Island. This research was conducted in August - September 2019, using a purposive sampling method. Heavy metal analysis using the Inductively Coupled Plasma - Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) instrument. The results showed that the concentration of the heavy metal Pb in the sediment bulk of northern Bangka Island (Kelabat Bay) was higher than that of South Bangka Island. The concentration of heavy metal Cu at 8 (eight) sites is still below the quality standard (18.7 mg.kg-1) even if the heavy metal Pb at stations 3, 4, and 5 in the waters of the northern half of Bangka Island (Kelabat Bay) is reported to have exceeded the quality standard limit (30.2 mg.kg-1). The highest level of enrichment of heavy metal Pb occurs at station 4 with a value of EF_62.88, and is categorized as very high enrichment and a contamination factor (CF) value of 2.24 (medium category). This condition is due to station 4 being located in Kelabat Bay (semi-enclosed area) with unstable water conditions due to the influence of many activities. The results of this study can be used as input for local governments for the management of water areas on Bangka Island.

Abstract

Fire disasters pose risks to the community but also to firefighters. In dealing with a fire disaster, officers sometimes have to be faced with events that are detrimental to them. The purpose of this study is to carry out a hazard risk assessment and provide suggestions for controlling the hazards faced by firefighters. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive study design approach, through in-depth interviews and direct observation. The results of the study indicate that there are potential hazards faced by firefighters starting from preparation activities, going to the location of the fire incident to returning to the post. The amount of risk faced is dominated by medium risk, for high risk it occurs during the extinguishing process, and for low risk only when officials receive news of a fire disaster. For risk reduction efforts, the forms of control that can be implemented can be in the form of engineering engineering, administrative controls, and Personal Protective Equipment.

Abstract

Rewataya Village is situated on Tanakeke Island, within the Takalar Regency. Despite its significance, previous studies have not addressed the mapping of changes in mangrove land area within this locale. The present research aimed to fill this gap by assessing alterations in mangrove land area from 2013 to 2023, alongside examining density and canopy cover conditions. The method employed for mapping changes in land area entailed utilizing the unsupervised method with maximum likelihood classification. Additionally, the assessment of mangrove conditions involved employing plot line transects to determine species density and hemispherical photography methods to evaluate canopy cover. Notably, two types of mangroves, namely Rhizophora mucronata and Rhizophora apiculata, are prevalent in this village. The mangrove species density in Rewataya Village, Tanakeke Island, is categorized as good. In addition, the canopy cover in Rewataya Village falls within the classification of very dense according to mangrove damage criteria. However, there has been a notable reduction in the mangrove ecosystem area between 2013 and 2023, with a decrease of 42.28 hectares (from 367.13 hectares to 324.84 hectares). Keywords: MangroveLandsat 8Rewataya villageUnsupervised
