Abstract

This study aims to analysis students responding assessment in analytical exposition text. The purpose of this research is to find out how students respond to understanding analytical exposition text. The subject of the research was the eleventh grade students of SMK SWASTA PAB 12 Percut sei tuan. The research design of this study was qualitatve research.The instruments for collecting data were assessment or questionnaire, observation, and interview. The data were gathered by administering interview to the teacher English and distributing questionnaire to the eleventh grade students. This study were the assessment of students’ responding at in the Eleventh grade students of SMK SWASTA PAB.Students responding occurs when a students make a response by answering questions or responding in a variety of ways that communicates the students’ understanding of the content being taught during the lesson. The researcher can concluded that there was 17 students who know and want respond to the feedback that the teacher gives to students in analytical exposition text material. Conversely there was 8 students who was unable to respond to the material because the ability to received and absorb analytical exposition material is not easy for them, so teachers must patiently guide and applied analytical exposition learning material to students who was poor response and absorbing abilities.65% of students can quickly respond to analytical exposition material used informal assessment methods and 35% of students can answer questions given by the teacher to students.Key Words: Qualitative Research, Writing, Assessment, Students’ Responding, Analytical Exposition Text.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop students worksheet for reading comprehension of descriptive text using Kahoot! for tenth grade students at SMA Dharma Pancasila Medan. This study was categorized as Research and Development (R&D) through six stages: gathering data and information, conducting need analysis, designing first form of media, validating by experts, revising media and final product. The subject of the study was the tenth grade students of SMA Dharma Pancasila Medan with the instruments of collecting data were interview and questionnaires. The result of the study was platform Kahoot! to be used as stusents worksheet for reading comprehension of descriptive text. In the percentage form, the average score of experts’ validation in term of content aspect was 94.2%, presentation aspect was 94%, language aspect was 97% and graphic aspect was 100%. These scores were categorized “Very Good”.  It means the developing students worksheet for reading comprehension by using Kahoot! was appropriate for tenth grade students of SMA Dharma Pancasila Medan.Keywords: Descriptive text, students worksheet, Kahoot!

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out the teacher written feedback focuses and purpose on students writing descriptive text at SMA Negeri 1 Tanah Jawa. This study used descriptive qualitative research design. The participants of this study were an English teacher and 36 students grade X of SMA Negeri 1 Tanah Jawa. In this research, the data source was the students’ descriptive text writing. It was collected after their writing was given written feedback by the teacher. The instruments for collecting data were documentation and interview. There are six focuses on teacher written feedback. The focuses are language form, text functions, content, creative expression, the writing process, and genre. Based on the analysis of the students’ writing, it is figured out that the teacher’s written feedback mostly focuses on language form namely grammar. Based on the interview, from six purposes namely provides information for both teacher and students, provides advice to the students, provides students language input, motivates the students, and leads students toward autonomy, the result showed that the teacher has been fullfiled all thoses purposes of written feedback.

Abstract

This study aims to develop reading materials needed for students at SMKN 8 Medan.The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) develop through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, develop new materials, validating by experts, revising and final product. It was conducted at SMKN 8 Medan, especially grade XI. The data were gathered by administering interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 27 students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which contain the appropriate knowledge or topic with the Kemendikbud (Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan), syllabus and students’ need. Thus, developing materials are narrative text, the narrative texts expose the texts about fashion which are adjacent with students’ need. The products have been validated by experts. The average scores are 4.6 or 92 % from English Lecturer and 4.75 or 95% or from English Teacher. It means the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for students at SMN 8 Medan grade XI Keywords: Research and Development (R & D), Reading Materials, Vocational School, Fashion Design Program

Abstract

This study aims to develop English reading materials needed by students of Vocational School and develop English reading materials for students of Light Vehicle Technique based on Problem Based Learning. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R and D) design through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials, validating by experts, revising and final product. It was conducted in SMK Swasta Dwiwarna Medan, especially grade XII. The data were gathered by administering interview and distributing questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which contain English lecturer and the second from English teacher. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of IRF (Initiation-Response-Feedback) technique that used by the teacher and students in classroom interaction based on Sinclair and Coulthard Technique for seventh grade students at SMP Al-Amjad Medan. The data were collected for two meetings/weeks 2x40 minutes. There were 32 students for seven grade that had research and collected data through observation, audio, and video recording, transcription and interview. This study found that there were four structures of IRF technique in categories teacher those were ; to inform (21.98%), to direct (9.92%), to elicit (29.78%), to check (4.96%), and there were two structures of IRF technique in categories students, those were; to inform (7.09%), to elicit (26,24%). And the most dominant structure of IRF were teacher elicit (IR) (29,78%) and student elicit  (IR) (26,24). The most dominant structure of IRF is teacher elicit (IRF) that produced by the teacher who is expected to create classroom interaction. The reason of the most dominant structured occurred in classroom interaction because the teacher always stimulated the students by questioning and ordering. This study is expected to be an inspiration for other researchers to conduct more conductive research in the future about Initiation Response Feedback (IRF) technique in classroom interaction.   Keywords: Initiation Response Feedback (IRF), Classroom Interaction, Speaking.

Abstract

This study deals with the designing of English Speaking Materials By Using Digital Storytelling Project For The Eleventh Grade Students of Senior High School.  The objectives of this study are: (1) to know the English speaking materials needed by grade eleventh students of senior high school, (2) to design appropriate English speaking materials by using digital storytelling project for the eleventh grade students of senior high school. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 3 Medan. The research procedures of this study is Research and Development (R&D) through three phases : 1) evaluation and need analysis, 2) course design, and 3) materials validation. The instruments used were questionnaire, interview and documentation sheet. The data from evaluation and need analysis were analyzed by using descriptive technique and the data from expert judgement results were using quantitative data analysis. The result of this study is a course book of speaking materials by using digital storytelling project which consist of title, objective, introduction, observing, practices and reflection. The materials consist of three units, they are What Is Your Opinion, How May I Help You? and You Are Loved. Based on the experts’ judgement result, the score was 3.97 which belongs to good category. Keywords: Digital Storytelling Project, Speaking Materials.
