Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of understanding of Griya Khadijah students towards productive waqf in order to evaluate learning and formulate strategies in producing competent human resources. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The data collected came from direct interviews with all Griya Khadijah students, totaling 22 people and from documents at the end of semester exams for productive waqf subjects at Griya Khodijah Puspas Unair. In terms of analyzing, this study uses the revised version of Bloom's taxonomy understanding theory in the cognitive realm, which includes interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, summarizing, inferring, comparing, and explaining. (explaining). As well as analyzing understanding based on its level, namely high level or exploration; moderate level or interpretation; and low level or translation. As a result, five of the seven indicators show an exploratory understanding which proves that on average Griya Khadijah students have a high understanding of the concept of productive waqf. However, understanding is still not completely perfect. Griya Khadijah Santri are still at an intermediate level of understanding on measurements with interpreting and exemplifying indicators, so that more learning focus is needed on these two indicators.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) on firm value among companies listed in the Indonesia Sharia Stock Index (ISSI) during 2018–2023, both partially and simultaneously. ESG is relevant in Islamic investing as it aligns with the principles of justice, sustainability, and ethical business. Firm value is measured using Tobin’s Q, while ESG is assessed through ESG Score, Environmental, Social, and Governance scores obtained from Bloomberg. The study employs panel data regression using the Random Effect Model, with size and leverage as control variables. The results show that both ESG Score and environmental performance have a significant negative effect on firm value, indicating that better ESG and environmental performance may reduce firm value. Social and governance scores have no significant impact. These findings suggest that ESG implementation in Indonesia remains suboptimal and does not yet reflect the Islamic economic principles of benefit and sustainability. Further research is needed to analyze companies that meet the Sharia Securities List (DES), compare firms with and without ESG practices, and examine specific sectors that may contribute most to the decline in firm value due to ESG. This is crucial for understanding ESG effectiveness in Indonesia's Islamic capital market.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the growing importance of understanding capital structure decisions in Sharia-compliant firms, particularly as these firms operate under unique governance mechanisms shaped by Sharia principles and the oversight of the Sharia Supervisory Board. The purpose of this research is to examine how board characteristics and firm-specific factors influence capital structure in Indonesia’s consumer cyclical and non-cyclical Sharia-compliant sectors. Using panel data from 57 firms over the period 2007–2020, this study employs the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to analyze the effects of board size, commissioner size, and internal firm variables on leverage decisions. The results indicate that larger boards significantly reduce leverage, and greater commissioner presence is associated with lower reliance on debt, while firm age, tangibility, size, growth opportunities, Tobin’s Q, and profitability also play significant roles in shaping leverage decisions. Based on these findings, firms are encouraged to strengthen governance quality, particularly in board structure and supervisory mechanisms, to achieve more prudent and sustainable capital structure policies aligned with Sharia principles.
