Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to examine teachers’ practices and challenges in implementing digital learning in English classrooms, including the types of digital learning platforms they use, the challenges they face, and the strategies they use to address them. This study used a qualitative method. The researcher used semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions and observations to collect the data. This study was conducted at MAN 1 Purbalingga with four English teachers as the participants. This study used thematic analysis to analyze the data from interviews and observation, the steps were: familiarization with the data,  generating initial codes, searching for themes, reviewing the themes, defining and naming themes, and producing the report. This study showed that teachers use various digital learning platforms, including Kahoot!, Canva, Google Classroom, and Google Docs. Teachers face several challenges in implementing digital learning, those are technical issues and connectivity problems, limited access to technology, equitable access to technology, and resistance to change. Teachers have implemented several strategies to address these challenges, including collaboration with colleagues and the IT department, attending professional development, alternative offline activities, and troubleshooting. In addition, digital learning offers advantages such as enhanced student engagement, personalized instruction, and interactive learning opportunities. Teachers believe that digital learning has made learning more competitive and enjoyable, allowing students to take control of their learning.  The study highlights the importance of ongoing professional development and technical support for teachers to effectively integrate digital learning into their teaching practices.

Abstract

The scarcity of cooking oil and the increase in its price in Indonesia put society under pressure instead of the fact that Indonesia was the world’s largest palm oil producer. Therefore, Iwan Fals, the singer who often expressed his criticism through a song, also released a sharp criticism song entitled “Minyak Goreng.” Since this song also functioned as a criticism, it contained some linguistic features that were referred to critic the government. This study analyzes Iwan Fals’ song entitled “Minyak Goreng” by using Fairclough’s critical discourse theories. The method used is qualitative with descriptive so that the researcher interprets the data in the lyric based on the happening phenomenon. The data are analyzed in three fields: linguistic features, text production, and social practice. This research shows that Fals uses some linguistic features such as pronouns, similes, metaphors, and probability phrases to express his criticism. Fals also put himself as the people of Indonesia who suffer from this cooking oil scarcity. Besides that, Fals also shows the anger of the people to the government. This research indicates that the text shows the relationship between language, power, and social construction.

Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction has become increasingly significant in higher education. While ICT offers clear opportunities for enhancing teaching and learning, little research has specifically examined how ICT-enhanced professional development shapes classroom practices in this context. This study aimed to investigate how higher education EFL teachers’ professional development experiences influenced their use of ICT in the classroom and what challenges and opportunities they perceived for their professional growth. A qualitative case study design was employed, involving classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with eight teachers in a university settings. The findings indicate that professional development plays a crucial role in shaping ICT integration, though its impact was uneven across teachers. At the same time, teachers’ experiences revealed a dual reality. While the teachers faced persistent barriers such as limited infrastructure, time constraints, and lack of sustained support, they also recognize clear opportunities for enhancing student engagement, collaboration, and their own professional development. The study underscores the need for institutions to move beyond one-off workshops by developing sustainable, context-sensitive, creating collaborative communities of practice, and embedding continuous mentorship into policy frameworks are critical to bridging the gap between ICT’s potential and its classroom reality. These implications highlight how higher education institutions can design professional development and policy initiatives that not only build teachers’ digital competence but also foster long-term innovation and improved learning outcomes.
